Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Holy ####, it's gotten to the point of arguing how tall a ####### coach is? Should probably just shut this thread down for everyone's sake.

Izzo not pulling punches about beating Michigan:http://sports.yahoo....-072917833.htmlBest line: "George Perles says they all count for one," Izzo said of the former MSU football coach. "He's full of ####."
rivalry
15 years of domination :lmao: there is no rivalry. Yesterday was like all those games in the the 00's. Winning by 25+
How is it they can comprehend this concept as it applies to basketball but it seems inconceivable when applied to football? With that said, isn't Izzo like 20-10 or 19-11...something like that against Michigan? I think that winning streak has closed the gap to 20ish games in the overall rivalry right?
I think it's 21-11 (21-6 if you don't count the cheating years :D ). I don't believe for a minute that any true MSU or UM fan honestly believes that there is no rivalry (football or basketball or hockey or beer pong). Saying there isn't is just a way to get under the skin of the other fan base. One of my best friends is a UM alum... played football there. We jab each other about anything and everything MSU/UM related. Rivalries are fun, until tools doosh it up and take it too far. Pretty sure you can find many examples of both (fun and doosh) in this thread.
Excellent posting
Yep it is nice to talk to other Michigan fans mostly who are alumni about the rivarly and it's nice to be able to talk to people who are level-headed and realist's. It's just when you get those Wal-Mart Wolverines who are obnoxious, and over the top as you can easily tell scrumptrulescent is with his comments just recently."little brother nice game", calling Izzo Napoleon, making an exuse and nitpicking about the Wisconson last shot saying Brust was a liar because he said the shot felt good coming off his hands.
FWIW....I think you're back peddling  I don't know you from Adam, but the first post you posted here about "no rivalry" falls right in line with the kind of "walmart fan" you were admonishing Michigan fans for being.
You missed my post above that about being facetious with that
Your post above your "there's no rivalry" post was this:
Went to the game last night great overall atmosphere, and great outcome. Hopefully no consussion for Dawson, he was very very woozy when he went to the bench. I've gone to two games this year and he got hurt in both of them
And I went back a page or two...no mention of kidding around about it  The only mention you make about joking around is AFTER Keerock's and my conversation. That's why I say it feels like you're back peddling

Going to MN v WI tonight. Goph's need a win or they are going to enter the discussion of being on the bubble. What a trainwreck this season has become.
:goodposting: Must win game for the Gophers. Need to right this ship in a hurry, or we'll be riding out the season like a Carnival Cruise.
This should actually be a good game. Both need the win badly.
Should be a great game. I'm afraid Minnesota has more to play for than WI and am afraid of a letdown on the road like they had against Iowa. They'll need to play damn good to get by. I'd like to see Dekker's playing time start to increase. Here's to a good game :banned:

:goodposting:Though Dekker said a few weeks ago he was worried about hitting the freshman wall. ~20 minutes a game seems right for him.

Agreed on all count.

After that UM-MSU game, just looking at this thread makes me sick. Congrats MSU, your team is a rock. I hope Michigan can learn from what you and your fans did that night. Now, I am going to return to my state of denial.

It's going to be fun watching how this all plays out. IU, MSU, UM and OSU are so close. It's going to be a dog fight these last few weeks.Good luck the rest of the way. :banned:

Oh, I am not giving up. I am all in on this season and have been since day 1. I watched the entire UM-Binghamton game. Down 30 to MSU? I turned that off right away. It was too much. I don't plan on missing another minute of Michigan basketball this year. I still think UM has a great shot to get revenge in AA against MSU and IU. Also, I think UM will fare better in the tourney. Too much halfcourt, lockdown D in the conference. The refs let everything go in conference.

As far as the rematch...I can see UM being much better at home and State being a little worse FWIW. Not sure what that gets us, but it will be a much tighter game in AA. State's D has picked up considerably over the last couple weeks. They were so overly prepared for M isn't wasn't even funny. It was like they knew all the angles UM was going to use before they used them offensively. I don't see that changing. We've seen M once now and know pretty much what they like to do. Only question is if our offense will be there. Our bigs have to dominate inside like this past week to be successful. No doubt it will be a nasty atmosphere down in AA for State to play in, but I think they will be up for the challenge. Can't wait to watch.

I have an in on the AD staff and have seen the technology room in the Bres and knew about it being one of the tops in the country. My connection has said that anyone in that graduates from the scouting/technology program at State can name their price in the professional world. Very cool they were selected for this. I can see why though.

WI was 50-0 when tied or leading with 5:00 left before tonight. Dre Hollins and Austin Hollins need to be taking 15+ shots each per game. Elliot Eliason, 7' C, needs to start and play more. He's the Gopher's best passer, does the little things and knows how to play basketball, although every game he gets terrible calls against him because he's only a soph, he's tall, lanky and white. Everybody else is tentative passing, can't properly lead the pass and waits for the defense to recover before passing, thus eliminating offensive position advantages. Numerous times MIN had huge position and no one gets the ball inside. Bring Coleman or Williams off the bench for a scoring punch. As was said above, Evans is terrible. Bricked tons of FTs and is like 44% for the year. Definitely helped the Goph's out. As many have said in this thread, Dekker is a player and should be playing 25-30 min pg. Ryan does an awesome job recruiting shooters and basketball players. Tubby could use more of both and needs to not rely on athletes who have neither the skill to shoot nor the head to play the game. Gophers defense played hard and made it tough for WI to score. Very fortunate to win the game though. They would've been on bubble watch without this win which is disgusting after their start this year. MIN has a favorable schedule and can get to 10 wins even with losses to IU and OSU. Hoping we can beat IU at home. I'm excited to see that one in person.

I was looking forward to the rematch until now. Apparently the only way UM can win is if msu messes up since they have the Wolverines figured out. Sucks.

Dekker for Wiscy can ball! Not sure why he isn't playing more. Mbakwe is physically imposing, seems like he should be better than he looked for most of the game last night. He disappeared. What kind of offense does Minny run? I didn't see much other than a 1-4 isolation with an occasional weak screen. Seems Like they're missing a PG but I haven't seen them play too much.

Just whatever they are doing, I hope it keeps going is all. I'll be a happy camper to steal one on the road in AA. Road wins are few and far between in the B1G.

Morgan being out/injured for OSU, Wisc and MSU hurt Michigan a lot. Losing your starting center is a major blow to any team in any matchup, but against those 3 teams it is especially detrimental.

Speaking of which....is there an estimate as to when he'll be back 100% ??

MIN WI is totally out of the offense. They look lost
Fixed to reflect the end of the 2nd half and OT.
Ryan Evans is terrible. Shouldn't even be in there
I agree. He is outstanding on defense, which is why understand him playing that side of the court down the stretch, but he was expected to be our #1 offensive option this year, and at this point he's a detriment.
Wisconsin with the shark move. Down 3, shot clock turned off and playing defense straight up.
 WTH were they thinking??
Man WISC pissed that one away. That hurts.
Hurts bad. The whole game was ugly, and both teams looked exceptional on defense. MN's defensive speed caught up to the Badgers, and they never got into a rhythm once they stepped up their defensive pressure.
Another thrilling Wisconsin game.

Bo Ryan - personally setting basketball back 5 decades since 2001.
 Yeah, it's terrible to see disciplined play on both offense and defense. _______________________

Great win for MN. They worked their assesses off down the stretch, and never gave up. They beat WI, by playing better D than they did, which you don't often see. This is one of those games that having Gasser would have made a huge difference. His ability to stay calm with the ball, and to keep the offense moving would have greatly assisted. Traevon (or Evans) going one on one is not the answer for this team. They need to get the ball moving, and find an open jump shot. Traevon is not a good finisher, and Evans is a liability as he's awful at the line. I expect Bo to reduce Evan's minutes down the stretch and to work on getting Brust, Dekker and Brusewitz more open looks, while working Berggren in the middle of floor. It's not atypical for the Badgers to not score for long stretches, but it is abnormal for them to not work for a good shot.

I got home just in time to watch that curly headed guy running the baseline on the in bounds to turn ball over. Ouch.
I laughed so hard when that happened. I was there with my 11 year old son, and we just went over that exact situation in practice the day before; when you can and can't run the baseline. He just looked at me like "how does he not know that?"
What kind of offense does Minny run? I didn't see much other than a 1-4 isolation with an occasional weak screen. Seems Like they're missing a PG but I haven't seen them play too much.
The don't run an offense as far as I can tell. If they set up in the half court, more often than not all they do is run a weave hand off up top until the clock gets down to 12, then they'll try to get someone open off a screen and pass to him, except the defense double teams that player and they have to force up an ugly shot. They also have a play where they post up a bigger player who without even looking at the basket immediately looks to pass it back out. My favorite is Mo Walker who exerts a ton of effort to post up and fight for position, and then treats the ball like a hot potato and passes it out as fast as humanly possible, then immediately starts to fight for position on the block again.

You did. I don't understand why Ryan won't play him more.

:lmao: They don't. The run the flex offense quite often and it's pretty much their only set play and they run it so often it never works. Well, it never works because of that and also because it's something you start teaching in fourth grade.

From what I've heard it is mostly due to his inability to play good enough defense. With the spark he gives offensively, I think he needs to be in their a hell of a lot more, and Evans a hell of a lot less. It was interesting to see Evan's minutes finally reduced and Dekker's go up last night.

IU with a warmup today against purdue in a pretty ugly game. Tuesday at the Breslin Center is going to be a tough. Wouldn't be shocked to see IU open as a slight favorite but I'd be betting MSU in that one.Oladipo rolled his ankle at end of 1st half and didn't get back on court. IU didn't need him in the game so we'll have to wait see how bad it is.

Nice win sparty's, tough stretch coming up. Hope Trice is close to coming back. Appling playing 38 minutes a game has to take somewhat of a toll
