Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

MSU played really well today.
Pretty much every Boiler was off their game.
A game like that gets Purdue knocked out of the NCCA tournament in an early round. 😞
Making only 1 three pointer and committing 17 turnovers is going to guarantee a loss for pretty much any team. I hate when this team is careless and sloppy. Leave it to Purdue to motivate other teams to play their best game. It will be interesting to see if MSU bounces off this success or returns to their slump. I don't have a good feeling about tomorrow tonight in Madison.

I think MSU keeps their momentum and wins at A2, loses at tOSU and wins on Senior Day in EL to wrap the season. That'll put them at 12-8 in conference and 21-10 overall.  Probably gets them at least a 7 seed but not more than a 6th seed in the tourney...depending on how they do in the B1G tourney.

Boy was I wrong.

Hoped the Purdue game was a turning point, the team getting on the right track. Sigh.

That being said, I absolutely love Tucker being at a road Michigan game. Couldn't ask for a better CFB coach.

Big, much needed win for M behind a monster game from Hunter.

MI still needs at least one of the last two games.

I take back what I said about the B1G doing well in the tournament. The entire conference is really weak.

I said like a week ago that the B1G would get 4 teams in the S16 and none in the F4.

While there are a lot of good, solid teams, it doesn't seem like there are any great teams.

Badgers bank in two 3 pointers. 😮

I’ve gone from being confident Purdue would be a Final Four team to thinking they’ll probably get knocked out in the First Round.

Obviously WI and PU are at the head of the class, which could compared to top teams in other conferences isn’t saying much. Then 3 through 9 are essentially the same teams. Good not great. Bunch of 6-10 seeds.

I'd put Illinois up there with Purdue & Wisconsin

Technically it was only 1...Davis' was a 2 pointer. Kudos to Wisconsin for hitting the shots.

This Purdue team just can't put it all together. Honestly the only really good win was over IL at home. Every other game including wins had major red flags including barely squeaking out wins over OSU with a buzzer beater after being up by 20 and winning the 2 OT game at IL after having a six point lead with 90 seconds to play.

I think I mentioned it earlier in the year that the PG play was going to cost them. Hunter is a great defender and had a good stretch of offensive production a few weeks ago but has been cold since. Having Morton and/or Furst on the floor limits the offense as these just don't have much to contribute.

And honestly they are just getting out played and out hustled on the floor. It's tough to watch and I don't have much hope that they are going to do anything in the tourney. We'll see.

What's going on with Trevion Williams?  Dude was a borderline stud last year and now he's seemingly buried in the rotation.  As an outsider who doesn't watch a ton of Purdue basketball I'm shocked he's not a bigger piece of that team.

He's pressing IMO because his minutes are limited and he's trying to do too much. He's had some flashes were he came into the game and made an immediate impact, but it's concerning that his talent is being wasted. At this point Painter really needs to consider having him and Edey on the floor at the same time. Williams is going to be 4 at the next level...no reason why Edey as a true center and Williams as PF can't be on the floor at the same time.

Williams can't guard the 4, hell he has trouble guarding somewhat mobile/3 point shooting 5's.  Not sure what his problem has been, he was awful the last 2 games tho.

I'm just going to go walk out into the ocean and ponder how we reached this point.  🙂

Still pulling for all the the conference come tourney time.
Is there another team in the B1G that absolutely puckers for the last 5-10 minutes of every game?  If you cut off every game at the last media timeout, they're probably competing for first place.

This MSU team is absolutely non-competitive.

I’d rather watch, and listen to a test of the emergency broadcast system.

Izzo even looks like he's mailed it in... Sitting quietly most of the game on the bench..  And any big guy in the post is abusing them.. How does someone averaging less than 2pts per game and 32 total points all year, go off for 18??

I might not have any Big10 teams on my bracket playing past the first weekend in this year’s tournament, although  I’ve watched almost nothing from the rest of the country. I saw a bit of Arizona earlier this week and don’t see any Big10 team beating them. Of course, I’m almost always wrong when I try to predict outcomes.

Playing zero defense and having zero offensive/defensive intensity will get you there quickly.

The team is very uninspired. The team plays zero defense.  I really don't even recognize this team as an MSU team, like those of the past. Zero senior leadership, zero leadership period, zero outside shooting threat, zero killer instinct, zero inside, low post presence (Bingham is not a low post presence although he is 7', you'd never know it, except for blocks), zero rebounding advantage, stupid fouls and even more stupid turnover margins. Izzo's Asst coaches all need to go too. I think Tom is done after next season, and quite possibly after this season. His coaching style is apparently just not translating to players anymore.

Yet, somehow Purdue made them look great.

Frustrating.

I’m interested to see how Ivey does in the NBA. No question that he is great at this level. His athleticism is way above most players, but at the next level they are all great athletes. Just seems  he’s able to cover up a lot of flaws by being a better athlete. He did make a nice jump this year so maybe he’ll continue to evolve and fine tune.

Purdue had a great group this year. One of their better teams in recent history. They have the talent to make a deep run and enough flaws to get knocked out early.

Seems like they might have good talent coming in next year. Love that Rosevelt Colvin’s kid. Myles, committed. Looks like a nice addition.

ENORMOUS win for the Wolverines in Columbus. And without Hunter Dickinson.

They absolutely had to have it and DeVante Jones was incredible. GO BLUE.

Always fun here at the Breslin for senior day. yada yada yada they got a win.

Got a high-five from Mooch at halftime

Congrats Tom on #663. That ticket will be going in my memorabilia case.

All alone at the top. Well deserved.

How are people debating Rutgers being a bubble team?  Ridiculous they are firmly in and shouldn’t be in any bubble talk.

All Big Ten -

First Team - Johnny Davis, Keegan Murray, Jaden Ivey, EJ Liddell and Kofi Cockburn.

Second Team - Hunter Dickinson, Trent Frazier (media), Trayce Jackson-Davis, Zach Edey, Ron Harper Jr. and Brad Davison (coaches)

Third Team - Alfonso Plummer, Bryce Mcgowens, Malaki Branham, Trevion Williams, Gabe Brown(coaches) and Geo Baker (coaches).

Johnny Davis was player of the year but not unanimous first team by the media.

---

First team looks good. Though I'd be very curious who wouldn't vote for Johnny Davis.

I don't really get the Gabe Brown pick at all.

How is Dickenson not on that list? 5th in PPG, 4th in rebounds and 5th in blocks. And for most of the year, the entire michigan team went to crap when he wasn't on the floor.

Dickinson was great but who do you take off the first team? All those guys were at least as good as him.

Greg Gard is Big 10 coach of the year as expected.

I think he's the clear choice - pretty surprising (and impressive) that he could get that team to a Big Ten Co-Championship.

Having said that, I sure wish someone at Wisconsin would sit Brad Davison down and tell him to stop trying to injure other players.

I'm a big Brad Davison fan, so we'll have to disagree that he tries to injure other players. The foul on Johnny Davis on Sunday that lead to an ejection was an example of a player trying to injure another.  The guy from Iowa who loved poking other players in the eyes is another example of that. What I've seen from Davison over the years is just good hard Big Ten basketball - drawing charges, throwing some elbows, a few nut punches here and there - normal stuff that we expect in the B10.
