Strongsville, Ohio to be exact. Don't really know if this means anything or not. For all I know he might be a Cavs season ticket holder since the season is right around the corner.

This should be interesting.

Normally I don't request this because I can just look it up but in this case I've got to ask: do you have a link?

COWHER RUMORS FLY IN CLEVELAND

Posted by Mike Florio on September 24, 2008, 12:32 p.m.

We’ve ignore the stream of e-mails on the subject, but they’re becoming more frequent, and we’d prefer to be left alone.

Apparently, plenty of folks in Cleveland have heard that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher has bought a home in Strongsville, Ohio.

It’s creating a buzz on the Internet, and for good reason. Cowher’s purchase of a North Carolina home in early 2006 fueled rumors that he would be leaving the Steelers

After the 2006 season, he did.

But the Browns have a coach. They also have a G.M. If Cowher were to join the franchise, he’d want to run the show. And that means that both Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage would have to go.

And for Cowher to already be sufficiently confident of those moves that he’d buy a house in the area, it means that he would have acquired some understanding from owner Randy Lerner that Crennel and Savage will be out, and that Cowher will take over.

The biggest problem with this scenario is the rule named for Cowher’s former boss in Pittsburgh. The Browns can’t simply fire Crennel and hire Cowher. At least one minority candidate must be interviewed, and few if any will agree to interview for the job if it appears that Cowher has already been chosen.

So we’d be very surprised to learn that Cowher actually has purchased a house in the Cleveland area or that, if so, he has done it because he plans on coaching the Browns. Even if Lerner had entered into a wink-nod arrangement with Cowher, it would be beyond stupid for Cowher to buy a house in Cleveland months before the plan can unfold.

This has been rumored for years but why a guy with Cowher's ego would want to coach the Cleveland Browns is beyond me. I realize he once coached and played there and he will be given a boatload of money but it is his hometown and former team's bitter rival. He could have the pick of pretty much any HC job he wanted.

I love BC and there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the guy but if he goes to Cleveland I will boo him lustily whenever he comes to Heinz field.

i wouldn't expect anything less.although i would hope he would work with Savage. i still like most of the moves he's made.

Alex Smith to the ChiefsBrett Favre to the Bucs or 49ers (Niners will overachieve and realize by the deadline that they are good enough to contend, or possibly win the NFC West)Ricky Williams to the Ravens or Chiefs (Larry Johnson's most productive years were when Priest was there to push him)Jeff Garcia to the PatsMatt Leinart to the TexansBrady Quinn to the Titans/Bucs/Pats, or Chiefs
This is a terrible list. Alex Smith is on IR. Martz has no issue running out a no name qb such as O'Sullivan. I highly doubt the Cardinals or Browns are ready to give up on their young guys.
Well, all the talk earlier was about him living in Carolina and taking Fox's job. So I'd take this with a grain of salt.

PRO FOOTBALL: NOTEBOOK; Now They All Want To Be in Cleveland

By MIKE FREEMAN

Published: March 29, 1998

When the city of Cleveland lost its football team after the Browns bolted to Baltimore, fans along Lake Erie talked about being abandoned. How times have changed.

Now, everyone wants a piece of the new Cleveland Browns. The city was officially given an expansion team last week and will begin play in 1999. With a new stadium on the way, a loyal fan base second to none and the probability that the new Browns will be stacked with draft picks and players the way that Carolina and Jacksonville were on their way to instant success, no wonder owners like Arizona's Bill Bidwill wanted to move their teams to Cleveland.

But the biggest climbers reaching out to Mount Cleveland? It's the coaches, without question.

You can bet that between now and next season, a number of coaches will try to use Cleveland as a bargaining chip for their own purposes. Reach a roadblock in contract talks with your own team? Threaten to go to Cleveland. Want more power? Threaten to go to Cleveland as the general manager-coach.

This may sound like a joke, but it is already happening. Last week, Pittsburgh Coach Bill Cowher, at an impasse with the Steelers over a contract extension, indicated he might try to be general manager and coach of the Browns. Cowher's current contract runs through the 1999 season.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Cowher, who once played for the Browns, is seeking $2 million a year, which would put him in the upper echelon of N.F.L. coaches.

Since Cowher is under contract with the Steelers, could Cowher even talk to the Browns? The answer to that question is no, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said at the owners' meetings in Orlando, Fla.

''He is under contract with the Steelers,'' Tagliabue said of Cowher. ''The Browns could offer him the position of King of Siam and he'd still be under contract to the Steelers.''

But there is some question as to whether or not Cowher, who has made the playoffs in each of the six seasons he has coached the Steelers, could join the Browns as their general manager before his coaching contract expires. Technically, that would be a promotion and it might be hard for the Steelers to stop Cowher.

The new Browns don't even have a front office in place -- or an owner, for that matter -- and yet already there is jockeying over who will be calling the shots on the sidelines. And few expect Cowher's attempt to use Cleveland to strengthen his negotiating power with the Steelers to be the last attempt of its kind.

It would make sense because of the 3-4 defense familiarity. There are others out there too, but not with Cowher's past success. Of course it means nothing unless Romeo is gone.

I don't see why Cowher would commit now, even if he is intent on coming back next year. If he waits until the end of the season, he will have his pick of multiple jobs, potentially including one closer to home - the Panthers (or possibly the Redskins). He'll get paid a lot regardless, so money is no reason to rush. So the only reason I could imagine him coming to an informal agreement with the Browns is if he values coaching the Browns much higher than most other teams... which I doubt.

So I'm not buying this.

I'd kind of like to see it happen, it would sure spice up the Steelers/Browns rivalry. I think Cowher would want his own guy as a GM figurehead (like Colbert) where Cowher made the big decisions. As it stands now I recall reading that Phil Savage has final say on roster decisions. I'm quite sure Cowher wouldn't sign on for that in Cleveland.

Not according to the county real estate records.Link

ESPN's John Clayton expects the Browns to make Bill Cowher an offer to be their next head coach after the season,

but doesn't think Cowher will take it.

"There are enough people talking to both sides," Clayton says. "They will talk to him after the season. They will make him his offer. He's probably going to turn it down." All signs point to Cowher staying at CBS one more year.

This hasn't been much of a rivalry in quite some time. The Steelers own the Browns.

Bill's a smart guy. Why would he want to go to that mess of a franchise when there will surely be better opportunities awaiting him.

good teams that perform well usually have coaches firmly entrenched, coaching jobs are usually vacated because the team is bad unless someone retires. Team that will probably be looking:ClevelandCincyOaklandDetroitMaybe:Jacksonville Buffaloso unless Jax or Buff grab him he'll be going to a really bad team

He doesn't have to take a job in 2009.Some franchises have fluctuations but have a decent ownership group. I think Cowher will wait for a situation like that. Jacksonville or Buffalo? I could see him considering one of those. Cincy? Maybe. They've had their moments and could probably turn it around with a strong GM and head coach. Cleveland, Oakland, Detroit? I seriously doubt it.

My 2 cents is that he will not accept an offer with the Browns out of loyalty to the Rooneys and his hometown. Of course money talks but I expect he would want a LOT of say in the organization. I am betting Phil Savage would need to be let go before he would take an offer from the Browns.

The one thing I do not believe is that Cowher bought a house back in August in anticipation of getting the Browns job.

It's disgusting that the Chargers aren't on that list - and rightfully so given everything A.J. has said so far. :goodposting:

Cowher wouldnt take a job with SD as long as AJ is there. AJ treated his mentor Marty way too badly for Cowher to come to SD, IMO

:goodposting: Cowher & Marty are still very close. He won't go there.I really think he's going to stay in the studio until his dream job becomes available or someone throws so much money at him that he simply can't turn it down.
