Bill Cowher to Tampa Bay? (1 Viewer)

Is it possible that Bill Cowher could be Tampa Bay’s next head coach. Raheem Morris, a first-year head coach for the Buccaneers, is reportedly on his way out and Tampa Bay is interested in who? Bill Cowher?

Well, this is all speculation but I do not see Cowher going to Tampa Bay. Cowher has said in the past that he will not interview for any jobs during the season and will not talk about any positions that aren’t already vacant.

Well, things could change if Tony Dungy, former Bucs coach, who still resides in Tampa, would be brought back in a Bill Parcells-type role. That certainly would entice Cowher somewhat.

Dungy + Cowher + tons of cap room (if Glazers open the purse strings)...

Would definitely make this season easier to swallow

I think you are going to see Cowher in one of 2 places....Carolina Panthers or Penn State when JoPa finally retires/dies.

If I had to guess on the coaching carosel this is my guess:

Carolina: Cowher

Tampa: Leslie Frazier

Buffalo: John Fox

Washington: Shanahan

Cleveland: Mangini (yes, for another year)

Chicago: Lovie Smith returns

Oakland: Cable returns

Dallas: Mike Zimmer

If there is one thing obvious about the Bucs this year (other than they are having one of their worst seasons ever) is that the Glazers are clearly not interested in spending :moneybag: . They are still paying Gruden and it seems pretty unlikely they would want to bring in a high profile, high priced coach like Cowher no matter how good it would be for them.

Cleveland or Carolina would be my guess. Carolina the easiest possible job (if available) for many reasons.

BTW JimBob I love the idea of Zimmer to Dallas but gotta wonder why they didn't hire him when they had a top D under Johnson and Parcells there. I just figure there's something there we probably don't know about. Can't think of too many other DC that revamped a D into a top defense and didn't get a serious head coaching sniff.

Also, I would like to think Marvin Lewis is in there fighting to give him a raise and keep him around. He might be conflicted being a former DC and reknowned for it but it's totally OK for him to hitch his wagon to Zimmer's D.

Agreed. The Glazers aren't trying to spend money on the Bucs right now, it's all Manchester United for them.

too bad they couldn't make Gruden be his OC or not pay him for not coaching Buccaneer players.
Some head coaching contracts stipulate that if the coach is fired and becomes a head coach somewhere else, the rest of the money is voided. If Gruden's Bucs deal is like that, you'd be rooting for Holmgren to fire Mangini and hire Gruden.

Morris could have gone 0-16 and kept his job. He's a young coach and the team is looking to build. You don't evaluate that after one season. I think he's one of the safest coaches for the 2010 season.
