Bills' MLB Battle - Pozluszny vs. DiGiorgio (1 Viewer)

Just wondering what the latest is.

I see the Bills' depth chart still has DiGiorgio as the starter, and i'm wondering if he's worth hanging on to. Short-timer until Poz is ready, or could hold a job (either WLB or MLB) all year?

Only if less talented players get the call for Jauron, i cant see it happening. Call him the utility backup with Coy Wire

Posluszny has been taking the vast majority of the first team snaps over the past two weeks. The Bills have stuck with the plan to allow both guys two starts with the first team in the preseason but most indications are that Posluszny has the job.

Published Tue Aug 28 10:54:00 a.m. ET 2007 (Rotoworld) Rookie Paul Posluszny has claimed the Bills' starting middle linebacker job, according to the Buffalo News.Impact: He's passed John DiGiorgio. Poz leads the Bills with 16 preseason stops and will likely fight Keith Ellison for the team lead during the regular season.

:ptts:
The original source for the Rotoworld blurb does not say that Posluszny has won the job, only that he's taking the first team snaps. There's a quote in the linked article from the coaches that says the decision won't be made until after the final preseason game.

I will be shocked if Posluszny doesn't start. I will not say it's a done deal, but that is the way I expect it to be.

There is nothing official yet to my knowledge.

Thanks, guys. looks like it's safe to cut DiGiorgio - he'll probably get snapped up like most of the other guys I cut.

I don't think it's a done deal yet based on the fact they let DiGiorgio start in the key 3rd preseason game. BUT, even if DiGiorgio were to start the season opener (which is still probably unlikely), I think it will only be a matter of time until Poz takes the job over. They just want to be sure that Poz knows the defense well enough to make all the calls. Once they are sure he's ready to handle it, the job is almost a certainty to be his. He's been much better than DiGiorgio in the preseason games, so I'm not really sure why they didn't just let him start last week.

they were about to list Poz as the starter until he tried to make a tackle on Vince Young in the open field ...

i think he whiffed :bag:

i guess that will happen to alot of LBs over the next few years but it does give a one-play microscopic look at Poz's athleticism (or lack thereof) with the injury)

i own Poz in one league so i hope he does grab the job right off the bat

Rotoworld:

"John DiGiorgio ran with the Bills' first-team unit at weak side linebacker during practice Wednesday.

DiGiorgio, who lost out to Paul Posluszny in their camp battle in the middle, may fill in while Keith Ellison and Coy Wire are out, instead of Mario Haggan."

Is there a chance he could produce big next week if he does fill in?

That's strong side? http://www.nfl.com/liveupdate/gamecenter/2...UF_Gamebook.pdf

Wire and Ellison were SOLB.

[edit- dont want to assume too much]

There has been a debate about that and gamebook keeps saying Crowell is WOLB.

In both preseason games I saw, Crowell was lined up over the TE and frequently moved from left to right to follow shifts in the offensive formation. Haven't seen a game since, but the news blurb is more consistent with what I've seen than the gamebook.

Crowell is and has been the SLB. In the one preseason game that Wire played in place of him, he also lined up on the strongside. Gamebooks are inaccurate for some reason.

The Bills could also use Haggan at SLB and move Crowell to the weakside but that doesn't seem to be as likely as keeping Haggan/DiGiorgio or someone else at WLB.

Bills signed LB Leon Joe, who played in a similar system with the Bears but has bounced around quite a bit and never been much more than a special teams player.

Any news here on who is starting??? Dont want to get burned again like i did last week with Caleb Miller. Is DiGiorgio starting at WLB???

Local beat writer seems pretty confident. DiGiorgio with the first team since Wednesday.
Second-year man John DiGiorgio worked with the starting unit in practice for a third day in a row today at weak-side linebacker. He is taking the place of injured Coy Wire, who was taking the place of injured Keith Ellison.

from today's Buffalo News

John DiGiorgio again took the first-team practice repetitions at weak-side linebacker and is expected to start in place of Coy Wire, who injured his knee last week. Linebacker Mario Haggan was excused from practice for family reasons.
with Haggan not even at practice yesterday...pretty clear that DiGiorgio will get the start.
