Bills waive Maybin

August 15, 2011 - 1:37 PM | Comment

---In a move that wasn’t totally unexpected, the Bills today announced that former first-round pick Aaron Maybin has been waived.

In two full seasons in Buffalo Maybin, who was drafted in the first round with the No. 11 pick overall, totaled just 24 tackles and didn’t record a sack. He was drafted out of Penn State in large part because of his ability as a pass rusher.

Now, Maybin is another of a long list of Bills draft busts.

Wow! For the Bills to give up on a early first rounder after 2 seasons, must have been a really inept player. Is there any hope of a reclamation of his career? Jarvin Moss is just starting to put it together as an early Bronco's washout for the Raiders. I'd like to get Jene Bremel's opinion on him. I remember the strong draft buzz around Maybin on draft day. Looked like a beast in his highlights.

huge PSU fan, and i just didn't get the draft hype around him coming out. fast enough that his outside speed rush worked in college, but not against big time tackles. and he had no other moves. certainly couldn't play the run. Mike Mamula, only not even that good

i hadn't followed him much. did they try to make a LB out of him?

And to think that Buffalo drafted him right ahead of Orakpo. Its no wonder that the previous Bills management is long gone. And yes, they did try to make him an OLB in the 3-4. Just too small. There are safeties that are about as big as him.

For reference, he weighed in just 6 pounds heavier than Buffalo's kicker this season.

The sad thing, is that the rest of that draft wasn't all that bad. But that pick was horrendous. Orakpo and Matthews going after Maybin just makes it hurt even more.

The only shock to me is that the Bills didn't just cut him this offseason.

Bills had the worst defense in the NFL last year, and Maybin couldn't even get on the field...he was a healthy scratch for 5 games, and barely soiled his uniform in the others. I agree that he should have been cut before training camp. I give him zero chance of being picked up by somebody else.

this is kinda funny for me. There's a local kid that got a chance to play with the Bills this summer and almost pray for a spot. His named is TJ Langley. He was a TE at Arkansas Tech and is playing DE some for the Bills. I thought he'd be cut already, asked a friend who said he's been doing better than Maybin. This thread, puts that back into perspective. Inadvertent Thanks Aaron

he's awful. just too light to do anything out there.
Still better than Gholston.
how so?
Because the Jets took Gholston even earlier and paid him even more money.
Jets seem to be doing alright. Back to back AFC Championships? Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs in a decade.
Won't argue with that, but we were comparing players not teams, Rud.Both stink, but you may be on the right side of this if Maybin never signs with another club. Gholston has the measurables going for him, at least.

I know. I just have a hard time imagining that there's a player out there any worse than Maybin. Sure, he wasn't picked as high but he looks pretty useless.Re: Gholston, I recall everyone thinking there was a dropoff in talent after him in that draft class. He was considered to be among the elite players so while it was a bust of a pick for the Jets, it was one that many other teams probably would have made as well if they were drafting from a similar spot in the draft.Re: Maybin, the Bills passed up a player like Orakpo who seemed like the clearly better choice to just about anyone but the Bills. Maybin supposedly had a quick first step but did not have the measurables to really project as the 4-3 DE they were drafting him to become.

:lmao:

Looks like Maybin won't be getting the chance to go up against the Bills twice a year now unless New England or Miami is dumb enough to sign him.

And didn't Rex Ryan really hype up their pickup of Maybin and say that he was a good player?
