BJ Upton (1 Viewer)

Prior to today's 0-5 performance, this guy had a 0.321 BA with 7 HRs, 25 RBI, 7 SBs in 131 AB. Is the bottom just waiting to fall out on this guy or has he truly arrived? These numbers are well beyond anything he has been able to produce before, so I guess we can't expect this to continue, but can he continue to be a solid starting fantasy third basemen through the remainder of the year? What are the opinions around here on Upton?

he strikes out too much it really pisses me off
K's are not a factor in my league's scoring system.
he strikes out too much to sustain the BA he had early on. he's going to fall back into the 280 range, but still should have decent power, speed and position elig to make him worthy.
 If he "only" hits .280 with the power and speed ability he has, he'll have a nice long career. I kinda look at him almost in the same breath as Alfonso Soriano, with maybe slightly less speed and power and slightly better OBP ability.

His minor league stats have always been phenomenal. If his defense was merely average, this would be his third full-time year in the majors, not his first. His only setback has been his defense. Since it appears the Rays are willing to deal with that, he should be strong the rest of the year.

While the comparisons to Soriano are somewhat valid, Upton is much more likely to take a walk... and he hits at a better spot in the lineup now.
