Blackouts (1 Viewer)

FYI, The league will show any blacked out games online from midnight Sunday for 72 hours excl when the Monday night game is on.

"One thing we’ll be doing for our fans in those markets that have a blackout situation, which we’re working very hard to eliminate, is to provide at midnight that night on Eastern Standard Time the ability to see that game that was blacked out online for free through a service that we’re launching called Rewind. So we still want to give the fans the access to the product that they’re not able to come to the stadium…It would be available for 72 hours. It would be taken off online during the Monday Night Football window and then put back online for free just in that geographic area where it was blacked out."

Do they blackout Monday Night Football games that do not sell out? I've never heard of this happening.

Wow....they are letting people watch the game 10 hours after the fact?

I think that given the current economic situation in this country, it would behoove the NFL to temporarily lift the blackout rules for this season. It will never happen though.

What I don't understand is that this rule is to "force" people to go to the game so that they don't lose ticket sales. However isn't the loss of TV advertising money a greater concern?

For the bengals:

Local 12, Kroger and the Bengals bought a large chunk of remaining tix so the game will be broadcast.

O goody! So we can stay up to midnight and watch a game the results of which we will already know. How kind of them. It's funny to me how when NFL teams are looking for the public to subsidize and largely pay for stadiums that the teams are "public institutions," but when it comes to decisions like this it's all a private business.

Don't forget about parking, consessions, (food, drink, clothing, etc...)

That is what I have always said. I actually went back and forth with Bruce Allen about it a few years back. God, i wish he was back in Oakland.....Anyway, anyone know if we are blackedout or not? Thanks guys!

Last year I was able to watch it on my computer through DirecTV......I dont think that is the case this year.....we will see!

If a game is blacked-out in your area, go to a local watering hole that has purchased the NFL Ticket. If you play in free leagues and are basically cheap, order water and free popcorn. Get a lot of refills. Run the waitress' butt off for 4 hours, then leave her a quarter tip. A much better percentage than the 20% she will get from the paying customers.

This is only true if the local watering hole is >75 from the stadium.BTW, I checked on the Raiders/Chargers game. The NFL has given the Raiders an extention, but it looks unlikly that the game will sell out. This means that all TV stations, including ESPN, within 75 miles of the Colusium will be blacked out. Having cable/satellite with ESPN won't help, nor will going to the local bar, unless >75 miles from the game.

Yes they do. When I was 14 or so, which would have make it around 1992 or 1993, when the Colts were bad, I won freebies in a radio contest to a Monday Nighter vs. the Chargers, and it wasn't a sellout and was blacked out.

It is not just 75 miles....it is 75 miles to the local broadcasting. I live 100+ miles, but our local broadcast station is 70 miles away. Also, I was able to watch blacked out games last year through DTV on my laptop. I have the NFL package and I downloaded Supercast and BIZAMM>>>>No black out for me  I hope it works this year too!!!

Normally they don't schedule really bad teams for Monday night, which is why it probably happens so infrequently. Why the heck did they schedule this game for Monday night anyway??????

Because this a divisional rivalry game with a very good team and a team that will always bring drama to the game. Plus there is always the outside chance that Al Davis will die on National TV.
