Oscar Pistorius murder charge: bloodied cricket bat found at Paralympic athlete's home

Local reports stated police believe he may have used the bat to attack girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp before shooting her dead on St Valentine's Day morning.

Detectives are working on two other theories concerning the bat: that it was either used to break down the door of the bathroom where she hid, or that she used it to defend herself against Mr Pistorius, South Africa's City Press reported.

One bullet cartridge was found in the champion sprinter's bedroom and police are looking at whether he "chased" his girlfriend and fired the first shot before she locked herself in the bathroom and he fired three more through the door, the paper said.

It cited three sources "close to the high-profile investigation" who said the police had a "rock solid" case against South Africa's former golden boy.

A post-mortem examination on the body of the 29-year-old model revealed that as well as bullet wounds to the head, arm, hand and hip, she suffered a fractured skull, it reported.

"There was lots of blood on the bat. Forensic tests will show whose blood it was," one source was quoted as saying.

Looks like he went bat#### crazy.
You know the old saying "For every smoking hot chick in the world, there's a guy who's tired of her ####". We really shouldn't judge him for beating her with a cricket bat and shooting her a few times until we know more about how annoying she was.

Oscar's statement:

I fail to understand how I could be charged with murder, let alone premeditated murder because I had no intention to kill. I had no intention to kill my girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. I have been informed I have been accused of murder—I deny the accusation. Nothing can be further from the truth that I planned the murder of my girlfriend. On [February 13] Reeva would have gone out with her friends, me with mine. She wanted to stay at home. I was watching TV. My legs were off. She was doing yoga. At the end of the evening we got into bed. I’m acutely aware of people gaining entries to homes to commit crime, I’ve received death threats. I sleep with my 9mm under my bed. I woke up to close the sliding door and heard a noise in the bathroom. I was scared and didn’t switch on the light. I got my gun and moved towards the bathroom. I screamed at the intruder because I did not have my legs on I felt vulnerable. I fired shots through the bathroom door and told Reeva to call police. I walked back to the bed and realized Reeva was not in bed. Then it dawned on me it could be her in there. I kicked the door open. Called paramedics and complex security. I tried to carry her downstairs for help. I tried to help her but she died in my arms. With the benefit of hindsight I realize that Reeva went to the bathroom when I went to close the balcony door.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2280929/Oscar-Pistorius-Blade-Runner-sobs-prosecutor-accuses-premeditated-murder-girlfriend-Reeva-Steenkamp.html

You are in a bedroom with your girlfriend. You get up and likely make a bit of noise. Go to the balcony to close the door and hear someone in the bathroom. Why is your assumption that it's an intruder and not the person who shares the house and bedroom with you? That makes no sense. Unless he's very paranoid. Or he wanted to kill her and stage it.

thought the same thing - I guess the guy did not hire very good attorneys.....

According to TMZ, he was accused of assaulting a previous girlfriend in 2009. Guy seems like a real gem.
There have been several exes that have come forward and suggested that Pistorius is not the Golden Boy the media made him out to be.Plus, when inspecting Pistorius' mansion, detectives found boxes and boxes of roids. Couple that with the prostheses that scientists said gave him an advantage, and it appears that Pistorius was a fraud in every sense.

But he went to the Olympics and we KNOW the Olympics is the gold standard for drug testing!

A local paper ran a story the other day saying that a first shot appears to have been fired and hit her in the hip in the bedroom, after which time she ran into the bathroom and locked the door, which he then fired through killing her. They supposedly found blood spatter in the bedroom. I have a tough time figuring how they'd explain that if that was true, and obviously his statement doesn't seem to leave much room for this. And yeah, he sounds like a real gem.

wow that is a terrible statement. No logical person will ever believe his spin. I say, dump him for life in some max security prison and take away his legs for at least 20 years as added punishment

By about 2200 on February 13 we were in our bedroom. She was doing yoga exercises and I was in bed watching television. My prosthetic legs were off. We were deeply in love and I could not be happier.

I have received death threats before. I have also been a victim of violence and burglaries before. For that reason I kept my firearm - a 9 mm Parabellum - underneath my bed when I went to bed at night.

During the early morning hours of 14 February 2013 I woke up, went onto the balcony to bring the fan in and closed the sliding doors, the blinds and the curtains. I heard a noise in the bathroom and realized someone was in the bathroom.

I felt a sense of terror rushing over me. There were no burglar bars across the bathroom window and I knew contractors who worked at my house had left the ladders outside. Although I did not have my prosthetics legs on, I have mobility on my stumps.

I believed someone had entered my house. I was too scared to switch a light on. I grabbed my 9 mm pistol from underneath my bed.

On my way to the bathroom I screamed words to the effect for him/them to get out of my house and for Reeva to phone the police. It was pitch dark in the bedroom and I thought Reeva was in bed.

I noticed that the bathroom window was open. I realized that the intruder/s was/were in the toilet because the toilet door was closed and I did not see anyone in the bathroom. I heard movement inside the toilet. The toilet is inside the bathroom and has a separate door.

It filled me with horror and fear of an intruder or intruders being inside the toilet. I thought he or they must have entered through the unprotected window.

As I did not have my prosthetic legs on and felt extremely vulnerable, I knew I had to protect Reeva and myself.

I believed that when the intruder/s came out of the toilet, we would be in grave danger. I felt trapped as my bedroom door was locked and I have limited mobility on my stumps.

I fired shots at the toilet door and shouted to Reeva to call the police. She did not respond and I moved backwards out of the bathroom, keeping my eyes on the bathroom entrance.

Everything was pitch dark in the bedroom and I was still too scared to switch on the light. Reeva was not responding.

When I reached the bed, I realized that Reeva was not in the bed. That is when it dawned on me that it could have been Reeva who was in the toilet.

I returned to the bathroom calling her name. I tried to open the toilet door but it was locked. I rushed back into the bedroom and opened the sliding door exiting on to the balcony and screamed for help.

I put on my prosthetic legs, ran back to the bathroom and tried to kick the toilet door open. I think I must have then turned on the light. I went back into the bedroom and grabbed my cricket bat to bash open the toilet door. A panel or panels broke off and I found the key on the floor and unlocked and opened the door. Reeva was slumped over but alive.

I battled to get her out of the toilet and pulled her into the bathroom. I phoned Johan Stander, who was involved in the administration of the estate and asked him to phone the ambulance. I phoned Netcare and asked for help. I went downstairs to open the front door.

I returned to the bathroom and picked Reeva up as I had been told not to wait for the paramedics, but to take her to the hospital. I carried her downstairs in order to take her to the hospital. On my way down, Stander arrived. A doctor who lives in the complex also arrived. Downstairs, I tried to render the assistance to Reeva that I could, but she died in my arms.

I am absolutely mortified by the events and the devastating loss of my beloved Reeva.

With the benefit of hindsight, I believe that Reeva went to the toilet when I went out on the balcony to bring the fan in. I cannot bear to think of the suffering that I have caused her and her family, knowing how much she was loved.

I also know that the events of that tragic night were as I had described them and that in due course I have no doubt the police and the expert investigators will bear this out.
The full affidavit adds a bit to it to clear that up...but still muddies it up with what I bolded.

And he says he went back into the bedroom to get his gun before going to the bathroom and just opening fire. The bedroom where she was supposedly sleeping.

Oh come ON!So there's another human in the house with you and without determining where they are you start firing indescriminately? You didn't find it strange that she didn't respond from the bed when you screamed for the "intruder to get out of the house? She wouldn't have responded to your screaming if she was in the bathroom?Mmmmkay.... ;)

Mobility and limited mobility aren't necessarily different. Or contradictory when taken into context. To me that's not what's muddled here.
