Blaylock will start... (1 Viewer)

From CBS Sportsline:

"According to The Newark Star-Ledger, RB Derrick Blaylock will start Sunday's opener against the Tennessee Titans."

Not sure what this means...I took him as a flyer in the 14th and have him warming my bench.

Could he go for > 80 yds + TD?

Apologies if this has already been posted....

Against the Titans? Why not...that seems pretty reasonable.

The only thing that may hurt him is if he splits carries evenly with Barlow, but I haven't necessarily heard that'll happen.

I've been saying all week long that Blaylock would start, and get 20 to 25 touches. In a PPR format, I think he's top 20 this week. What is harder to predict is the split between Barlow and Houston.... could go either way. I'd think that there are another 5 to 12 touches to divy up.

Apologies Rover...I saw some of your comments but didn't realize it had been decided.

Blaylock getting 20+ carries seems like a better bet than my current RB3 T Bell.

I might take that chance.

What do you think of Blaylock longer term? I know you don't have confidence that he'll stay RB1 at NYJ, but does he at least have the potential to breakout and keep the role? Or is he clearly a stopgap solution until something better comes along?

You don't follow the Jets much at all then. Mangini has repeatedly stated that he's going with a committee apporach. Not just that, but the Jets will activate 4 halfbacks for gameday rather than the usual three, and the RBs will split time based on packages - each RB will be in some packages and not in others. Blaylock may be the nominal starter, but I don't think he'll get 20 carries.

I wouldn't be that hestatic about Blaylock running vs. Titans. If you have any better option i'd go with it,...its going to be a platoon and i think Houston will get his reps in,..and thats not even mentioning that one guy,.......oh yea Barlow.

''Blaylock getting 20+ carries seems like a better bet than my current RB3 T Bell.''

I don't think so,...i'd rather have TBell running 10 times vs. Blaylock running 20 times.

Jets fan here.20+ touches? The Jets RB situation will be a RBBC with 3 RBs. Stay away.
Maybe, maybe not. As we've said often on these threads, Mangini doesn't offer much in the way of tipping his hand. For all we know, Blaylock or one of the other guys may take the job and seize it. It's definitely difficult to say who it will be (if anyone), so I wouldn't start any of them until we get a better sense of the picture. But it's worth stashing them away since you never know.

I guess, but nothing about Blaylock suggests to me that he is a feature back. He's fast but pretty much goes down on contact. I think Mangini will mix it up and see what he's got in all 3.

I've got him in several leagues. I think if you look back Chase, myself, and a few others have been expecting him to start for a while.

Speed kills in the NFL. Not praising him as the second coming or anything but I wouldn't go against a prediction that he's 11 carries for 20 yards then breaks one for 40 yards.

He was a good RB in KC and(I think Rovers pointed this out too)

I read where he was tentative when hitting the hole in preseason. If they can get him comfy, they have options at RB. Right now, they're pretty predictable. Houston is workmanlike. Barlow will run right into the LBer as if he's Bam Morris or Okoye but he's not, and Blaylock without confidence will crumble on contact or scoot outside quickly. If he can get rolling, the others can wear down a D and they can make a go of this RBBC. If not, I think they'll be hard pressed to produce. He wouldn't be the first guy to take a while to regain his confidence after an injury
