Blind Bidding (1 Viewer)

How much are you guys bidding on the top free agents this week and how much is your cap?

I'm curious to see what people are paying for those high scoring TEs.

($100 cap)i won't be bidding very high on players this week. in our league, sammy morris is the only potential game changer available (royal, taylor and pierre were drafted). even his value is limited, imo, b/c i don't want to worry about belichick's whims all season.if royal were available, i'd probably bid about $40 on him.i haven't decided yet, but i'll probably bid about $15 on sammy (which is sure to be too low) and no more than $5 on anyone else. in general, i never land any impact FA's until about weeks 3-6. i feel like that's the perfect time to see enough of what's going on around the league to be confident in somebody enough to drop the wad, yet still early enough to make a major impact.(my league does blind bidding doesn't have a TE spot, so i can't be much help there).

I think by that time you've missed out on a lot of the "nobody knew they were that good" impact players like Boldin or Royal and will just find "dropped but aren't really that bad" or "backup when a starter gets hurt" players.

obviously, it depends on the situation (boldin and royal are exceptions), but in general, i like to give it a few weeks to let things shake out. RBs are who i usually like to blow alot of money on, often, they emerge through injuries. if they emerge in week 1, often there's still plenty of time for the starter to come back and render the hot free-agent useless. there's just still alot of time left in the season for the situation to remuddy itself. often, it just gives the hot pickup too much time in the season to get injured himself. for alot of reasons, i don't like to jump on FA RBs before week 3 or later if possible.

last year is a good example, derrick ward was the big FA pickup after week 1. he was useless for all except 1 week after week 5. earnest graham didn't emerge until week 3. justin fargas emerged week 4, but really didn't do much else until week 8.

i passed on all these guys and bid everything i had after watching ryan grant shred denver in week 8. (i picked him up after week 1 for a $1, but dropped him after week 5).

this would be a good topic to research, but i've always had the feeling that the really great, championship-type FA RBs never reveal themselves until after week 2 and often even after week 7.

WRs are different, imo, b/c injuries aren't such a driving force in creating newfound WR value (relative to RBs).

of course, all of this is subject to the actual team in question. a team with a major hole at RB must act quicker, for example.

I'm pretty damn pleased that I just grabbed Cassel for 35% of the yearly cap.

Didn't think that would be enough to get him.

In my 2 QB league, Cassel just went for $150 out of a $200 cap. Kerry Collins went for $48. Another guy got Patten for $10, thought it was a good deal since its PPR.

I'm targeting Matt Cassell (bidding $29) and Matt Jones ($23)....$100 cap, very deep league. Part of me will me worried if half my bidding cap is gone after week one, but QB's and WR's seem to be hard to come by in my league this year. I just feel like these two guys will at least give you SOMETHING on a weekly basis.
