Blocking Free Kicks (1 Viewer)

During yesterday's DET/GB game Mason Crosby attempted a 69 yard free kick right before the half. The defense has to let him kick the ball, but is there any rule about players goaltending? In theory could they have put Calvin Johnson in the endzone and had him jump up and swap away the ball? On very long kicks there is a good chance that if it's going to go through the uprights it's not going to be very high and some players might be able to jump up and hit it, but is that a legal play? Is there any rule about a defensive player actually touching the uprights, to give himself a boost or something?

I believe what you describe can't be done. I've seen the free kick attempted like 3-4 times and I don't remember seeing a tall athletic leaper back by the goalposts trying to block the ball.
