Bobby Carpenter, what's his outlook? (1 Viewer)

I've been offerred a trade for Bobby Carpenter in a dynasty league. I know he was a first round talent last year but I don't know much about his current situation. My impression is that he's a backup/situational player because the coaches have not been impressed with him and have even heard rumors that he might be shopped for a db.

Any info would be appreciated.

IMO, the drafting of Spencer actually gave Carpenter's microscopic value a slight boost. Instead of being an OLB, the Cowboys most likely view Carpenter as a backup ILB. Ayodele and B James are not world beaters, and I would not be surprised if Carpenters overtakes one of them over the next 12-24 months. It may, however, be difficult for Carpenter to land a 3-down role with the likes of Ware, Spencer and Roy Williams playing on passing downs.

It's confusing right now.

Carpenter is a second team ILB in the base defense. Early word from camp observers was that Carpenter and Kevin Burnett were playing in the nickel, but the first preseason game had Bradie James out there.

I don't think there's much upside with Carpenter right now, or probably ever. We've a couple of very solid Dallas homers around, though, so you may get a clearer answer from them.

Thanks for the info guys. On paper, this guy seems like a breakout candidate. However, it doesn't sound like he's going to be a starter anytime soon, if ever, if he can't beat out the likes of Ayodele.

Just heard this on Talking Cowboys...

Carpenter is #2 behind Spencer at OLB. Given the situation with Ellis, Carpenter is being worked into the OLB slot with the second team in case his services are needed.
