Bobby Carpenter (1 Viewer)

Chaos Commish

Footballguy
Diehard Cowboy fan. I was unhappy they drafted Carpenter even though I predicted it in mock drafts. The writing was on the wall (bad pick). In rookie drafts he was going in the 3rd or 4th round after the likes of DeMeco Ryans and Rocky McIntosh, and frequently before Tamba Hali, Manny Lawson, Thomas Howard, Gerris Wilkinson and Kamerion Wimbley. Most of these guys are making some noise and Carpenter isn't dressing for games. Ouch. Major Bust here, right?

Not so fast. As a 3-4 OLB he never had value to justify his ADP. Lawson and Wimbley are nice looking 3-4 OLBs and Carpenter was expected to be grouped with them (all over valued for fantasy purposes in rookie drafts). It never happened. Greg Ellis took the job and ran with it. Others proved to be better pass rushers. Carpenter was (and this is the juicy part) moved to ILB. Parcells says he's progressing, doing fine, don't worry about the first rounder. He's getting bad press for not dressing when Oliver Hoyte is-- that's a special teams consideration, supposedly.

I suspect Carpenter owners are unimpressed and he could be available in dynasty leagues soon (maybe already). The move to ILB enhances his value. If you have the room and opportunity, stowing him for now might pay off. If you own him and are frustrated, I think he's a hold for now, but the situation with Hoyte necessitates monitoring. It may be Hoyte is the better player. There's an opportunity available for one of these guys next season.

:noted:Thanks CC.
just traded Karlos Dansby for Carpenter in a Dynasty. I already have Gerald Hayes tearing it up in my lineup every week, and figure I will never play two Cardinal LBer's at the same time every week. Dansby was just taking up space, and Carpenter could be a nice little LB when he grows into the position. This is always a nice little tid bit to pick up.Thanks CC.

Let's not get carried away, gents. Carpenter is a complete non-factor this year. Rumors of his demise were probably highly exaggerated, and that was my main point. The move to ILB bodes well for future fantasy numbers IF he wins the job (like a first rounder should). I don't recommend trading... um... current performers for Carpenter unless they have one foot in retirement.

I have depth at LB.VilmaWitherspoonG. HayesT. HowardT. DavisB. RuudS. Phillips plus Hodge and DQ Jackson.I figured I would never start Dansby with Hayes in my lineup, and plan on trading away Vilma or WWitherspoon to upgrade elsewhere. I figured why not take a shot on Carpenter.
