Hi FBG's, long time for those that remember.

So here's the question--if this is the wrong forum, whoops--is Boldin only in SF because of the fact there are Harbaugh's coaching both teams?

Here is why I think it's a question, if Balt. had shopped Boldin around more would he and they have gotten a better "deal"? If the answer to this is no for something obvious, again, whoops. And if they could have made better deals, did the quick trade with SF have more to do with familial relations and less to do with general protocol in the NFL? And if it is the latter, is that unethical? Or is it no big deal, coaches that are friends have been doing deals for as long as deals have been getting done; but still, doesn't that seem a bit weird?

Don't get me wrong, I think all involved came out great. Balt. kept its salary cap managable, SF got a solid vet. WR--which I am thinking should really help cultivate Crabtree with not only receiving, but leadership as well; I wouldn't be surprised if Boldin doesn't make Crabtree a top ten WR--and Boldin is still on a solid playoff team and may see more passes in SF than he would have in Balt. So clearly no one is #####ing. Still.

It's no different than any other previous relationship coaches have. (I'm sure Reid, after hired in KC, hit up Philadelphia real quick to see the availability of Nick Foles)

Baltimore did shop him around and had limited time to get anything in return. (I thought they did well to get something period)

Edit to add: SF will be paying Boldin the same $6 mil in 2013 as Denver is Welker. It worked out great for the player (who I'm not sure would have seen $6 mil if released) and both teams.

Jim Harbaugh can be forgiven if he thought his brother was pulling his chain with a phone call offering to trade Anquan Boldin two months after the wide receiver played a key role in the San Francisco 49ers' defeat in Super Bowl XLVII to the Baltimore Ravens.

"Oh, I'm sure he probably was suspicious," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

John explained to his brother that the salary numbers simply didn't work for Baltimore or Boldin, leaving the sides no chance of reaching a last-minute compromise before the onset of free agency.

Once Jim realized the Ravens were serious about a trade, he quickly moved to strike a deal for the veteran receiver.

"I called him up and said, 'Would you be interested?' He said, 'Heck yeah. I'll go talk to Trent,' " said John Harbaugh, referring to 49ers general manager Trent Baalke.

Within 30 minutes of the original phone call, Baalke and Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome had the details in place for Boldin to land in San Francisco.

"I think they feel like they got a great deal," John said. "I know they got a great player. They got a great leader. They got a guy who'll be a perfect fit in their in their offense in a lot of ways. They'll realize that right away."
