Book Bannings (1 Viewer)

It's a nationwide local groups of conservatives taking away freedoms and doing everything they can to make Christianity the only true religion.

As a devout Christian, I find it scary when you consider what has happened historically when people like this are successful.
I make no secret of my atheism and I have nothing against religion for other people. But Christian Nationalism worries me. That said, I don't know what the CN tie-in is for this particular book.

This movement however of "I don't want my kids to read this so I want it banned for everyone" is dangerous. Worry about your own kids. Start there.

I was speaking, generally. However the old testament in particular is pretty harsh when it comes to the women. It's not much different than the brand of Islam the taliban follow. You know how some folks love to pick and choose passages to declare what should and shouldn't be the law in this country.

Girls Who Code founder speaks out after Pennsylvania school district bans her books: 'This is about controlling women and it starts with controlling our girls'

It's always the GOP, the party of FREEDOM!!! that does stuff like this. Always.

I agree with the author, like RvW, it's about controlling women. The taliban must be so proud.

After reflecting, really, the GOP and elite that support them want to control everybody.
I would really love to hear the explanation on this one. A book about girls learning to write code.

The Girls Who Code books were banned specifically by Pennsylvania's Central York School District, located in a critical political swing region where Saujani said the organization has an active club. But she said the move is part of a larger effort by Moms for Liberty, a conservative organization that advocates for parental rights in schools, including oversight of educational material.

"In some ways we know that book banning has been an extreme political tool by the right — banning books to protect our kids from things that are 'obscene' or 'provocative' — but there is nothing obscene or provocative about these books," she told Insider.

Moms for Liberty did not immediately respond to Insider's request to comment on the ban.
The same district also banned The Handmaid's Tale.
Of course - they dont' want accurate depictions of what they want us to end up like. ;)

Our education system needs a reset...between religious crazies and leftist nuts we have two groups pushing their agendas onto children and they could care less about a kid becoming functional as an adult...these two groups may hate each other but they are the same person, and they are both vile...if you want to teach that anyone who doesn't think like you is a sinner or want to teach transgender nonsense to first graders go start a school yourself and let the wierdo parents who agree with you send their kids there while the rest of the kids learn basic skills so they aren't living in their parents basement at age 30.

If dictionaries arent off limits is anything off limits?

J6 may have failed, for now, but all part of the plan to turn America into a theofascist country with the GOP at the top. You may read that and think "oh come on"! You don't have to believe me, listen and look at what they're doing.
Except it’s not being done by the GOP per se. It’s being done by a local group of conservatives.

Some conservatives around here have tried to argue that the Democratic Party is for “defund the police”. That’s a lie; some leftists are for it but not the Democratic Party. I think it’s only fair to apply the same rules here.
It is a fair distiction to me made, for sure.

I will say from my observations of posts around here, I'd guess more conservatives are OK with these book bannings than liberals are with defund the police.

Do you see either of these happening in schools around you? I sure don't.

I admit, I was on break and had to scan the article - did I miss why specifically the coding book got banned?
I read the article twice, I don't see a reason given and both the school district and the conservative group that fought to ban it didn't comment.

I'm left to speculate its because a group of girls learned something technical and was able to do more with their lives than cook and pump out babies. I hope we learn of a better reason.

Moms for Liberty….. They might want to self reflect.

I agree. You've got the gamut going on right now, to "fisting tips" being linked to kids by sex educators to these book bans... School, like the rest of our country, needs to be taken back from these extreme ideologies that have way too much power and influence and be governed by the middle 80% of this country.

Smart branding. My personal opinion is it started with PETA. Most people don't want to see animals abused but that's not exactly what they are all about is it?

Wouldn't be shocked these days to hear about Uncle Adolf's Loverboys burning crosses and chanting "you will not replace us".

I agree too with both of you. However it seems like these far left people in schools is extremely isolated while the people wanting religion in public schools are everywhere.

For example, I know in a lot states you can choose to use your tax money to go to a private school instead of the public school system.

What does that example have to do with your first statement?

I assumed it was because these coding ladies may also be involved in :clutchespearls: a non-hetero relationship. ;)
