Taking my old man to see the Frozen Four in April. He has never been to Boston so we are going to spend a day or two checking things out. Can you suggest any hotels near the arena and places to check out?

I was just there on business. Be sure to check out the freedom trail. It's awesome seeing all the sites. We had cannolis at Mike's Bakery and red velvet cupcakes at Modern Pastry. Both are old school, awesome bakeries in little Italy. Lots of great italian restaurants too.

Lots cheaper to find something a little ways out but on a T line. Stayed at a hotel on one of the last red line stops for march madness couple years back, cheap and easy.

The Intercontinental is fairly close to the Garden and located in a great spot, when you book a room tell them your company has a corporate rate and when they ask say you work at Bank of America. It will knock off over $200 a night on your room.

Definitely don't stay at a hotel out on the Red Line, stay in the city.

Not sure how old your Dad is or how mobile, but for someone who has never been to Boston, this is well worth it.

Yah not sure how close you want to stay to Boston but if you are looking for cheap you can stay in Braintree. It's a 20-30 minute T ride into the city. Something like this http://braintree.place.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html is less than a 5 minute cab ride to the T station, right across the road from one of the bigger "malls" in the area, next to a 5 Guys. Of course it just depends on how close you want to be next to Boston as it is not in the city.

Also never stayed there so I can't vouch for it but honestly it's not a bad location if you are looking to save money on a hotel.

All this nonsense about staying on the terminus of one of the mbta lines reminds me of what I tell my wife when we go somewhere and she thinks I booked too expensive a place or otherwise should have been more like dentist: "If we had stayed home we would have saved A LOT of money."

Weird! This is the exact hotel I stayed at in Boston 1 month ago. Wish I knew this trick...

yea don't go staying in ####### Braintree, that's dumb. you are taking your dad to the frozen four, don't sweat the couple hundred bucks extra it costs to stay in the city

Make sure you take your dad down to Fanueil hall to donate to the many bums in the area. I am tired of them asking me for money everyday.

Can't comment on the hotel but the Seaport is a nice place now. Has some nice restaurants and stuff. Kind of a pain in the butt to get to though because I don't like taking the Silver Line but it's a fine place to stay just a little outside of the main Boston strip.

We are looking for a nicer place in the $200/night range. Any other suggestions?

Would Also check out the Liberty Hotel. Again, not cheap but a great spot walking distance to the Garden, Faneuil, Boston Common/Newbury street, etc. Well worth the extra coin.

Seaport is more of a business hotel... and it's not near anything you want to go to, either. I'd stay closer in town. I prefer the Fairmont Copley Plaza, myself, because the Back Bay location is really tough to beat and it's one of the last of the older hotels that still has the old world character you just don't get with the newer hotels regardless of how many stars they have.

I can't think of any "nicer" place in the city itself that is close to $200 per night, though. If that's your budget, maybe your should check out friggin' Braintree. or better yet, stay home and watch it on tv... as I tell my wife, you'll save a lot of money that way.

Dont see the point in spending a ton of money on a room that we will barely be in.

Look into Omni Parker House for a reasonably priced downtown room. Dead center location, walkable to The Garden and plenty to do near by. It's got a very old school feel and the rooms will be small but should be a good value. PM me and I'll give you a corporate rate to mention when reserving, too. Plus it has an excellent scotch tasting menu in the bar. Check out the Tip Tap room for awesome food (tips) and beer (taps), also walkable from either The Garden or Omni Parker. There's a Holiday Inn (I think) near Mass General just off Cambridge St. that may also have decent rates and is walkable to The Garden.

Then you should be perfectly fine at Holiday Inn Express in Braintree. They have free shuttle to the Quincy Adams MBTA station which is 2 miles away. And you can get in there between $160 - $200 per night with all the taxes and charges included. :moneybag:

The Parker House is nice and the location is good, but do you think anyone can get into the Parker House under $300 per night? After adding in taxes, etc., my guess is its closer to $400 per night there.

Thoughts on The Langham or The Revere? I gotta get two rooms (couple other guys going with us) for 3 nights. Looks like a few places are already booked up.

The Langham, again... nice enough hotel but more of a business-class hotel located right in the middle of the financial district. i worked in the financial district for about 10 years before I moved to Back Bay... the financial district is dead, dead, dead after 7pm. I mean the streets are uncomfortably deserted kind of empty. Not like in Back Bay, Quincy Market, the North End, or Harvard Square where there is abundant night life. It's also going to run over $300 per night before adding taxes.

I don't know much about the Revere Hotel, but looking at the map it's in a good location in Back Bay. If you can get in there under $300 per night it might not be a bad bet.

I can get two rooms with 2 queen beds @ $329 and the dates are open.

The Langham should be ultra expensive. It was Madonna's goto back when it was Le Meridien. I know nothing about The Revere.

I usually book Courtyard Marriott when traveling but I'm guessing those are booked?

Look into the Boston Marriott in Kendall Square, Cambridge. Short hop on the red line to Charles (walk from there to Tip Tap and then onto The Garden) or Park Street. There's also a great beer bar in Kendall Square called Meadhall and a few good restaurants, and halfway to the more interesting parts of Cambridge if you wanted to head that way.

Back Bay isn't the best location relative to the Garden.

I see there's a Courtyard by Marrirot near there, too... you might want to give them a call if you're really price-sensitive. Again, i don't know much about this one... I've never stayed in a Courtyard in my life but if all you're looking for is a room in a decent location, it could be worth a shot.

True... but it's pretty easy to get to the Garden from Back Bay and there's lots more to do in and around Back Bay on those dates or times when there's no game happening, so it could still be a good move to stay in Back Bay for the amenities and then just take a cab to see the games.

Can we take a cab or car service from this place? The price looks right

Sure... that shouldn't be any problem. In fact, if the weather is nice and you knew where you were going, it's walkable. Probably takes 30-40 minutes to walk it.

Booked at the Marriott - two rooms with taxes and fees paid exactly $300.24 per night/per room. Two games on Thursday and then the Championship on Saturday night. That gives up Friday and Saturday to checkout Boston. Any good "Guy" type restaurants to check out?

Thanks for all the help.

Best Irish pubs nearby:

JJ Foley's - a half mile walk.

Green Dragon - hit this one on the crawl to TD Garden.

Emmett's - Beacon Hill. Include this one on the crawl, too.

And then there's always the odd assortment of sports bars, etc.

Going to be sharing a room with my 72 year old father so I wont be worrying about anything other than getting him to and from the games without him A) Getting arrested for sexual harassment or B) Falling over from drinking too much

We ate at Abe and Louie's Steakhouse when we were there. It was very good.

Also, little Italy has something like 150 Italian restaurants in a pretty small area. It's insane. I liked it much better than little Italy in NY. If you ask around, I'm sure someone can point you to an awesome Italian place. I don't remember the names of the places we ate at, but every dinner was great.

I stayed at The Langham as we have a corp office on post office sq. It does get quiet, but I just walked everywhere at night, including to the North End. No big deal. Nice hotel. Old school. A bit pricey

Spent a month in Boston about two months ago, and went down to the Faneuil Hall area three times. Never once was hassled from folks begging for money, though we did enjoy thoroughly the pizza in that little area across the plaza-like area from said Hall. Outside Harvard though?! Couldn't walk ten feet without someone hassling us for change. Suppose folks figure that with all the cake all those families can afford to eat AND send little Johnny or Sally to Harvard, they might be able to score some bigger bills. ;)
