Boston radio reporting LeGarrette Blount signing with the Patriots (1 Viewer)

Watch him get cut before ever receiving a carry. This most likely will be the last thread on Blount...ever.

Patriots signed RB LeGarrette Blount to a two-year contract.
Oh, the irony. Just eight months after letting Blount walk to Pittsburgh as a free agent (and getting a compensatory draft pick for it), the Patriots get to re-sign him to a team-friendly, minimum contract plus incentives deal. He returns to a backfield that has lost Stevan Ridley to a torn ACL, but does have Jonas Gray functioning well as the clear-cut No. 1 power back. We'd expect Gray to retain that role, with Blount serving as insurance and depth. The 153-772-7 line he put up for Bill Belichick last season is not in the cards, making Blount only an extreme deep-league flier. He can at least make sure Gray doesn't have to carry the ball 38 times again like he did in Week 11.

This isn't new, but Rotoworld's "analysis" is obnoxious.

I just think it's kind of funny that he just left a team that gave all its work to one RB for another team that just gave all its work to just one RB.

You can say this, the man wants to play not just sit around and collect his money.

The talent has always been there. The decision making has always been the issue with this guy. Too much RB talent available to the NFL these days to accept the other stuff.

True, though it's better than even money that Blount leads the Patriots in carries in at least one game from here on out; including the real playoffs.

Guessing which game is the hard part from a fantasy owner's perspective.

Well, to be fair, NE didn't give all it's work to 1 RB. Vereen got 11% of the NE RB touches. They gave Gray virtually all the runs because Vereen didn't fit what they wanted to do. They had no other options besides Gray. Blount gives them that.

Pitt gave EVERY carry to Bell; Blount could have handled some of those carries. While he can't do what Bell can do in the passing game, he is quite capable as a runner.

Blount went from a situation where he was becoming less involved to a situation where he will likely be more involved. NE will likely (IMO) use a hot-hand approach, with Gray remaining the starter. If Gray falters, and Blount has success, they would stick with Blount. Before signing him, they didn't have that option. If Gray struggled, they would probably have been forced to abandon any kind of power-running game.

To clarify, Blount had no carries in week 11.

In weeks 1 thorugh 10, It was Leveon Bell 71% / LBlount 29% (ignoring a small handful of carries for Archer or Johnson with these numbers).

He had zero carries in Tennessee, but there was a little bit of chatter that the team was already souring on him by then, and him leaving the field just sealed the deal.

Serious question: does Blount get his full yearly salary from the Steelers in addition to new salary from the Patriots?
they get weekly game checks, so he got a mil signing bonus, plus a check every week from the steelers.

that deal is now torn up and he gets a weekly game check from the pats at whatever amount they signed him for, which I think is vet min

I thought contracts were guaranteed for the year if you're on the roster for Week 1 (which Blount was).

From what I remember, players on an opening day roster have their contracts guaranteed. If a player is released, he goes on the waiver wire. Any team that wanted to claim him off waivers could do so and assume the rest of his contract that he signed with the Steelers. He went unclaimed, which as far as I know means PIT is on the hook for the remainder of what they owed him for the rest of the season. So Blunt will end up getting whatever signing bonus he had plus his entire 2014 salary from the Steelers.

Any deal he made with the Patriots should be above and beyond what he is getting from the Steelers. It has been reported that he signed a two year contract, which I am guessing means this year and next year. In that case, the Pats would owe him a prorated share of what they signed him for for this season (so I am guessing 6/16ths of a full season since they have 6 games left). So overall that would mean Blount came out ahead by getting released and resigned by NE.

This sounds right to me, although this ESPN article states that "only Blount's signing bonus was guaranteed".But maybe that only refers to the 2nd-year of Blount's contract with Pittsburgh?

He carried that offense down the stretch last year.
Anyone who thinks Blount will be sitting behind Gray is crazy.

He got kicked out of Pittsburgh because he wanted to play ... Pats are not going to sign him and sit him because he would just be a distraction.

I'm sure Belichick is not comfortable having a rookie RB blocking for Brady and for the playoff run.

The excited tweets at the Patriots players during the games are hilarious considering he literally just walked off the sideline and left in the middle of his own team's game.

He was just cut by his team and not one other team picked him up on waivers. Do you really think he has leverage to demand playing time? Maybe he plays; maybe he doesn't. But it won't be because he somehow has it coming or that he was able to place any demands on the Patriots in his signing. This guy was a beggar and was lucky to get a job at all.

It wasn't the middle of the game, it was during the kneel downs. Not that anyone wants to be accurate or anything.

oh yeah, that's a good point.

I don't know if it applies to all contracts, but some have offsets in them which means that the steelers would only be responsible for money not paid by the patriots as far as the remainder of this year, which would be a reason for the pats to only pay vet min.

Pretty confident he'll be in the mix.

So just out of curiosity, is he starting in anyone's lineups this week? Or is everyone taking a wait and see approach? I realize anyone who would be starting him is in desperation mode and that this line of questioning might be ridiculous to some, but there are those of us out there that might, say, have LeVeon Bell on bye and shaky at best options at RB2. Like Jerrick McKinnon.

I don't expect the Pats to run a ton against Detroit, and when they do I think they will give everyone a shot and go with the hot hand.

Risky RB2/Flex imo for Blount and Gray.

You don't think they had that discussion before they offered him a 2 year contract ?

Also Blount put up 430 yards and 8 TDs in a 3 game stretch including the playoffs last year ... he's more than capable of producing in this offense and he's experienced and I would imagine a pretty good pass blocker or he would not be back.

Suspended one game for the season opener. No word yet on bell.
Pretty sure Bell's suspension was handed down last year, suspension being the first two games this year.
No, it hasn't been determined yet. The expectation is 2 games, but it COULD BE up to 4 games. The NFL hasn't yet made any official announcement, though.
I think the team handed him a suspension?
No. After the initial incident, they were forced to play more in a pre-season game, obstensibly as a punishment. Other than that, the team hasn't done anything. Even if they wanted to, the team couldn't suspend him, as that is the "jurisdiction" of the NFL. If the team were to suspend him, AND the league did, that would violate the CBA.

would be a sweet gambit to suspend your own player for the first pre season game and date the NFL to violate the cba by giving him a second suspension.
