Boxes from Electronics (1 Viewer)

So, I am beginning a process of decluttering my house. Three kids, junk just piles up enormously.

If you have a large box from a piece of electronics, say a printer. How long do you keep it?

Toss it almost immediately. Chances of me having to send it back are slim. If I did have to, I'd just wrap it with bubble wrap and throw it in another box.

Normally this...though, I say this as I saw up in our game/puzzle closet I still have the box to my PS2.

For the higher price items I keep them until that item is replaced. If you ever move there isn't a better way to pack it and keep if from damage than the original box with Styrofoam. That's what attics and crawl spaces are for anyway.

For game consoles I always keep them forever because I collect gaming systems and they're worth more with the original box.

Keep boxes from hi end electronics for a couple of weeks until I'm sure there's no issues with the gear.

I thought I was weird for keeping them. My wife was recently decluttering and got rid of the boxes I had saved. Not sure why I always kept them, but just seemed like a good idea if I needed something.

Like Jamny, I keep them less than a month and then toss them.

One exception: I pack my headphones in their box all the time because I carry them in a backpack. Easy way to keep them from getting broken.

till warranty is up
This. A lot of the time warranty service requires original packaging and the manufacturer can legitimately deny service if you no longer have it. I always check (i.e. read thoroughly) the warranty agreement prior to disposing of any electronics packaging.

OK, so I think I can get rid of my 18 month old box from an HP color laser printer.

Thanks.

Although, I may keep it around this week for kindling when the Snowmageddon hits this weekend.
