Brad Johnson (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Would I be off base to suggest that he will go down as one of the most underrated players in the history of the NFL when it's all said and done? He won a Super Bowl (for which he gets little credit), he is a very solid QB - and has been for a long time - but you'd go through a ton of other names before someone mentions him as a top-flight QB, or as a QB they would want to have on their team.

I think that argument can be credibly made.

And to think, he came into the league after losing his starting job at Florida State to Casey Weldon.

Some guys take longer to mature. Tom Brady splitting time with Brian Griese at UM, for example.Johnson can start for Oakland any time, in my book. But who would want a classy guy like him? He doesn't "have the arm" Al desires. Instead, let's keep bringing in heartless morons like George and Brooks.

Took a late flier on him this year. Looked very good in the Childress offense this preseason. Maybe Ill get a spot start out of him at some point

Very happy to have him as my backup. And when Palmer has a bye, I can start him against Detroit.

He is just one of those guys that win. doesnt do great things or amazing plays but produces. He has never been thought of as anything but an Avg. QB but his play is well above avg. He just doesnt WOW you like the big name guys yet he is just as important..You could say he isnt a sexy pick if you know what i mean. But he is a winner and thats the bottom line.

Do you think Romanowski was underrated? (Won 4 Superbowls, started in 5)

I have some high hopes for him actually, the offensive line in minny seems solid enough. The RB are not outstanding and I think they might find themselves trailing in many games thus leading to more passing.

With a TE like Wiggins and some backs who can catch the ball I think he might be a decent play many weeks. Im debating playing him this week as well.

I'm starting him for Roethlisberger this week.Johnson may not have a big arm, but he's accurate, and smart. He'll hit a lot of high-percentage passes, and won't make many mistakes. I think he's actually a serviceable No. 2.

He won me a title years back in Minny - maybe lightening strikes again! Love him as my backup QB and only cost me $3 out of $500!

Play him at home only. Minny is ghastly on the road.

Had some major QB issues last year and ended up using him a couple times. Wasn't the worst thing, and I think the team has actually improved.

He is much like Roethlisberger in that you can count on steady mediocre production week in and week out--only at home, though. On the road, as I said, he is unstartable.

He wasn't very solid late last season in big games. He's decent but not good enough in big games if he's made to carry the team. Take away the run and he is in trouble. He won a SB in Tampa because the defense made it easy. Play him in good matchups and you'll be OK.

Rypien and Dilfer won superbowls too.

I want to bump this thread after week 1. With all of the questions at QB that came up this week, many owners are looking for a solution. Brad is possibly on some waiver wires, but Pennington, A. Smith, Frye and some others have seemed to be more popular in many of my leagues.

Johnson, on the other hand has not gotten much talk here lately. If Williamson can improve his hands, my personal opion is that Brad could be a nice pick-up for those in need of a QB. Perhaps, I am biased though, for I started him the week that he threw a TD pass to himself (many years ago)! LOL :D

Anyways, what are the opinions here on Brad after he had a respectable week against a WASH defense that was considered to be much improved this year.

Personally, I like him very much, but I would like to stir up some conversation. I also have him ranked higher than Dodds does at present...but not much higher.

Exactly, and the MIN line seems to be very solid this year, and Chester should provide a good run threat. I just seem to believe that many are under-estimating Brad's potential this year. Just because he is a memeber of AARP does not mean he could not have a very good year! :D :banned:

OK, I guess that a thread has to be controversial in order to get alot of input. Thus, I will go out on a limb and predict that Brad will be a top 15 QB this year. With the raw (and improving) ability of Wiliamson, the strength of his line, and the running threat of Tayor, I can only conclude that he may be one of the steals of the draft in the long run.

Am I nuts? :banned:  :bye:

EDIT: My prediction is quite a bit higher than Dodds, by 10+ places.

Didn't look too "ghastly" to me Monday nite, on the ROAD at Washington
223 yds and a TD for BJ. Not ghastly but unspectacular. It might be that without Clinton Portis at 100%, another QB who is part of the AARP in Brunell, and a slew of other issues, that Washington is just not a contender. The team has never looked good on the road. I can tell you that having sadly--cry--started Brad Johnson at QB last year for the last few weeks of the season...

Top 15? That's pretty "controversial."

That's all based on the past, which is not relevant to the current team that calls Minny home. Brad Johnson will be SOLID.

It is what it is said:
Also Johnson was part of those prolific offenses back in Minnesota under Denny Green years back, to add to his Super Bowl resume`
This isn't exactly the highlight of his resume. Johnson only played significantly in two season in MN, 1996 and 1997. In 1995, Moon was the starter, the the Vikes had the #4 scoring offense in the NFL. In 1996, Johnson plays significantly in 9 games (I don't recall if Moon was injured or benched), and the Vikes have the #23 scoring offense in the NFL. In 1997, Johnson opens as the starter and the Vikes have the #11 scoring offense in the NFL (their rushing game was higher ranked than their passing game). In 1998, Johnson gets injured week 2, and Cunningham/Moss carry the team to the single season scoring record. So, in the year prior, and year after Johnson was the starter in MN, MN perfomed better. Johnson was a cog is the Viking offensive powerhouses of the late 90s, not an intergral part. His addition to the lineup added little. Heck, Denny Green's Vikes had the #4 scoring offense in '92 with Sean Salisbury as his primary QB (Rich Gannon played significantly as well, but was not the Rich Gannon of Oakland).

Been looking at this group as a Trent Green owner. Chad and Brad are my top two, but I think Brad may be a better "real" than fantasy QB, as I'm not sure how many yards he'll have. I can see him as a great game manager.
