Brandon Jacobs OUT (1 Viewer)

Ward is actually looking pretty good. He looks really quick. Droughns blocking for him from the fullback position (at least for now).

there's eddie george and chris brown upright and then there's brandon jacobs upright... i don't usually buy into the "upright" argument, but i think it's a valid argument when it comes to jacobs... couple that with his unwillingness to go down after being hit and wrapped up by several defenders and you have a recipe for disaster...

The slack might go to Eli, who looks pretty decent, all things considered. 11/16, 165 and a TD in the first half, mostly to Shockey and Burress. I don't think the Giants are a very good team, but Eli is better than most people seem to think.

Take this to the injury thread.
i'm sure it will be merged with that thread later on... but i think it should stay where it is at least for the rest of the game
didnt he run off the field? Knew I shouldn't have drafted the bum.
he ran/hobbled off to take himself out... not much was made of it, but it seemed odd to go out when he did... he didn't exactly rip off a long run or anything like that

So do any staff members have any insight on who is the RB to pickup here? Droughns? Ward? Need to act quick ...

OK, for those of us who have immediate waiver wire, drop add leagues; compare derrick Ward with guys you can cut from your roster.

Mine - Kevin Jones, Detroit - But, this is a keeper league and I can keep Jones (6 man keeper roster) for next year easily.

Pros - If Jacobs is out an extended period of time, I like Ward's capability of outproducing Jones for the yar.

Cons - I like Jones in the Detroit offense long term. Great keeper prospect in an emerging offense. If healthy, should be able to still manage his 1,000 yards rushing but improve on the usual 5 TD a year production.

More drop/add discussion encouraged. I'd like to hear who you guys are thinking of cutting from your roster right now to pick up Ward. I'll give opinions if it helps. Obviously we're talking real time drop / add leagues. This guy might not be available in 1/2 an hour for us.

would love those leagues . . . We have to wait until Thursday . . . I'd get him in place of some scrub WR5 you'd never start . . .

from a 2004 article I wrote about Derrick Ward:

I want to start out with a kid who’s high on my list of potential stars, Derrick Ward [5-11 225 4.5] who was drafted by the New York Jets. This kid is a power back with plenty of speed. He was originally recruited to Fresno State and had some success while there. He earned Freshmen All-American honors even though he played most of his freshmen year with a broken hand. Academics kept him out for 2 seasons and he finally transferred to tiny Ottawa (Kan.) University. In his one season there he set a NAIA record by averaging 7.7 ypc for the season. He is a great athlete with outstanding hip swivel. He has excellent lower body strength and can power through the line, and create his own hole if he has to. He has good leg drive and runs with a low pad level that makes him hard to bring down. He is quick to the hole, showing great vision, and can bounce it to the outside where he gets a lot of yards after initial contact. He has a slight fumbling problem that needs to be addressed. He also needs to work on catching the ball away from his body to help with drops out of the backfield. He is J.R. Redmond’s cousin (ah, what might have been), and is a very capable back that would excel if given the chance. With the situation with LaMont Jordan up in the air, Ward could be getting significant playing time in the upcoming season and could be the heir to Curtis Martin.

hate to get off topic... but the giants are looking much better since they seem to be unleashing eli while abandoning the running game

I own Jacobs and I just cut Selvin Young for Derrick Ward

I guess Reuben Droughns is not Jacobs backup  Glad I wasted that draft pick
I sliced one into the woods taking Droughns, thinking he was the RB2 in some dynasty leagues. He was the RB2 on every depth chart I saw.Something tells me Ward is going to be a popular add come waivers time.

good pickup - but how is Young avaialble??still, Ward > Young right NOW . . . check back in a few weeks . . .

good news is that he came off the field on his own power.... which means he might not be missing too much time; IE T Henry a couple of weeks ago.

watching the game any? ward is playing rb while droughns is coming in as fb to block..
I thought he was playing FB because the regular FB is injured? If so, how long is the regular FB out? And if he comes back and Jacobs misses games, then what happens with Droughns and Ward? Droughns did not look good during the pre-season.Obviuosly alot of questions in this post and I don't have any answers!

2 minute offense against a defense protecting against the deep ball. He took what they gave him.

i didn't look at many depth charts, but there were local stories released before the season began stating droughns was relegated to rb3...

I think Ward is pretty solid. Talented RB. Not Pro Bowl material but we are talking immediate starting RB and that should have huge value in ANY league.

Things I don't like abut Jacobs going forward - If he is able to return say in a game or two from now, a lack of mobility could kill him. His lateral movement skills were the absolute worst of all RB's in the combine. We're talking cones and drills of that nature. Straight line he runs a 4.5 and he's a LOAD, but if he can't drive his legs and can't wiggle AT ALL (bad wiggle skills to begin with + a sprained knee) I see him having huge problems even being good enough to take the field. His strength is breaking tackles but if the knee is weak enough he can't carry guys then uh oh.

I like that move. I'm not so sure Bell and Sapp wouldn't get bigtime carries if Henry were to be out. As I understand it, Bell and Sapp are working at FB and Young is the HB. But, if the starter (Henry) goes out there is the probabilty the HB depth chart / playing time scenario changes.I give Ward for Selvin Young a :( Of course, I didn't see the Denver game today and haven't seen the boxscore to see the carries Young, Bell, and Sapp had.

He was never going to make it the whole season without getting injured, have you seen him run? everytime he gets gang tackled.. sooner or later someone is gonna nail him while hes fighting for yardage ne way..

Decisions on DROP / ADDS for immediate WW guys FROM THIS THREAD

1. Kevin Jones (owner listening and thinking :( )

2. Selvin Young dropped for Ward

3. Added Ward / Drop Jennings

4. Added Droughns / Drop Daniel Graham

5. Drop Chris Brown add Ward?

6. Drop Chester Taylor for Ward?

I'm pretty sure (and I think otheres would agree) Ward gets the call over Droughns as the starting HB if Jacobs is out.

Add Ward

Drop Jennings

Add Droughns

Drop Daniel Graham

Silly little 8 team league so don't put too much stock in it

what do you mean all things considerred? He hasn't been sacked 40 yards rushing for the first half isn't too bad, time of posession, field position and all included, but they weren't running Jacobs much.Ward's been effective.I don't think Jacobs being out has negatively impacted Eli yet

Just showed his injury on NBC. Def looks like some kind of sprained knee. Might not be as bad as some think

They just showed it. Ran the right leg up against a Cowboy's back and it flexed left. Yowch. All this "upright gang tackling" stuff is BS in this instance, IMO
