Brandon Jacobs Vs Wash D (1 Viewer)

Last year (with Ward to compete with) Jacobs had two pretty solid games.

09/04 WAS 21 116 5.5 24 0 1 8 8.0 8

11/30 @WAS 21 71 3.4 23 1 0 0 0 0

Now I look on the rankings sheets and see B Jacobs predicted at RB25 this week. Really? Is the new skins D that much better, even considering that Jacobs Likely gets an additional 4-5 carries per game this year with only Bradshaw/ware to hold off (much more of a two headed monster than last year IMO)

what say You?

would you start benson, Parker (ha!, but hindsight is 20/20), Ray Rice. Mcfadden, Hightower?

I think that seems a little off.

If you drafted Jacobs in the first 2 rounds you gotta role with him Week #1. He is likley the freshest and healthiest he will ever be this season. The Gmen will pound the ball all day long in the redzone.

I see 75 yds and 2 tds......With Bradshaw getting his touches.

Rankings seemed a littel off this week with some players, I wouldn't put to much weight on Jacobs ranking 25th. Couple of others that stood out as being off were Bush being low and Bowe being a little high.

If you have Jacobs you spent a high pick on him so you must have some confidence in the guy or you would not have drafted that high. Playing matchups week one is a bit of a gamble, this case because of a free agent signing I dont buy it.

Oh I know. But very often when a ranking seems to me "off" FBG's have done more homework than me. Then again, using the other ranking option it has Jacobs substantially higher, and some of the above mentioned guys substantially lower. The real X factor for me is Benson, as the Broncos game is such a big ??? What is denver going to be this year? This might all just be classic week 1 overanlysis :alum: with having 3 months to make these lineup decisions 400x before kickoff.

Unless the Skins run away with it, Jacobs will get plenty of carries and so plenty of yards (and probably a TD). I'd put him in the 10-15 rankings.

Haynesworth is a beast that crashes the pocket and warrants double-teams. I don't expect Jacobs to run over the Redskins like he did last year (literally), but I think he'll do fine. The Giants O line is still better on the whole than the Skins D line.

STOPPING JACOBS: Brandon Jacobs ran over the Redskins for 187 yards in two meetings last year. So what's the big strategy for stopping the Giants' fifth-year running back this time around? Apparently, not overthinking it.

"We try and make this game more complicated than it is. . . . Guys stand in front of you and try to make this sound like it's rocket science," Blache said. "It's not. It still comes down to blocking and tackling. . . . There are no magic schemes, unless you know where to come up with more than 11. If we've got a way to get an invisible 12th, I'm listening, I'm up for it."

To translate: As it concerns Jacobs, expect to see eight men stacking the box on Sunday. There's really no other way.

What that does, though, is force the Redskins' cornerbacks to go one-on-one with the Giants' young wide receivers, a gamble Washington coaches don't mind making.
Washington PostThe Redskins will try to force Manning to throw.

1st game of the year=Jacobs healthy. you gotta start him, cause you know the guy will banged up at some point. when he's healthy he's almost unstoppable.

dont overthink it.

i expect Haynesworth to come back to earth. he was in a contract year and really gave 100% all the time. now that he's gotten paid, i think he will calm back down some. im not saying he will be a scrub, just dont expect what you got from him last year ever again imo.

I think Jacobs(and Portis) can get those stats. They're not all that good stats and if you let either guy get 21 carries...I'd like to think they can do that.Much of what's great about Haynesworth for Washington is that he is going to attract so much attention that the other guys can step up and do very very well. There's not a whole lot new I can say that wasn't said all offseason about him. Couple side notes-Giants claim(they've said so before, many many times) they're going to try and get Jacobs outside. Him going against DBs up the sideline is an absolute nightmare for DCs. He is faster than many think and so so much bigger than the DBs in the NFL. For years now, I've been saying that could be one of the toughest runningbacks to stop in a specific instance. The Giants have to set it up though and they flat out haven't. Haynesworth's hits injured 7 quarterbacks last year. Not out for season or games necessarily but seven missed at least a single play. In the violent nature of the sport, it's hard to deny that that has tremendous value or that it's something anyone can plan on or would feel comfy planning on. Still...how many Redskins fans would like to see David Carr out there? I'm not comfy betting on people to get hurt so...not going to ramble on about this subject. Just something for Skins fans to watch for this season.

Ummm.....no. Haynesworth's ego won't allow that.I'd start Jacobs if I had him....his yards might be limited, but I'd be shocked if he didnt find the endzone at least once, even with Haynesworth upgrading the skins run D. Coughlin WILL rely on Jacobs; he'd be a moron not to, and he's not a moron.

And pardon me for being excited about seeing the #2 and #3 wide receivers ALL TIME playing in the same game. ;) :goodposting:

Don Hutson is coming out of retirement?

No. Bobby Wade was signed by Cleveland so we get to see the Greg Lewis / Bobby Wade battle tomorrow...

There are multiple factors at work here that suggest Jacobs will have harder going against the 'Skins than he has in the past.

1) this is a better 'Skins offense simply by virtue of it being the second year in it (especially Campbell's second year), and also due to the development of Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and especially Malcolm Kelly. They should stay on the field more and likely should score more, which keeps Jacobs off the field and figures to force Eli to throw more.

2) the Giants CB's are injured. Again, this helps the 'Skins offense score points and be more competitive with time of possession.

3) the 'Skins run defense was already very good, but now with Haynesworth and Phillip Daniels' return (Daniels is basically a DT playing DE), and Orakpo replacing a washed up Marcus Washington at SLB, they should be improved even beyond what they were last year.

4) the major weakness of the 'Skins defense last year were the related problems of their inability to pressure the QB and to generate turnovers. Again, Haynesworth's presence and Daniels' return along with Orakpo's emergence as a very good looking rookie pass rusher figure to all help fix that and will also improve the effectiveness of Andre Carter, who is not a premier DE but who is a good complimentary DE in the mold of Greg Ellis when the attention of the O-line is fixated elsewhere. Also, say what you will about Deangelo Hall's propensity to get burned, but he also makes big plays and actually holds onto INT's, unlike Carlos Rogers. These factors should allow them to get off the field on 3rd downs, and also to get favorable field position due to turnovers.

Yeah, I'm a 'Skins homer, but I do really believe that the 'Skins are the most improved team in that division and figure to surprise some people this year. I don't expect a repeat of last season's opening game at all.
