I didn't watch the whole clip but does that have the clip where he ducks away from the pass to shy away from contact?

:D Seriously, the guy has sick hands, but a handful of highlight-reel catches does not make a great WR. Orande Gadsden (sp?) had great hands, too.

Great hands for a guy who has a career 105 catches and 13 TDs in 3 years as a starter. Wait maybe he is on a team that runs because they are always winning.......NO

49ers :: WR

WR Lloyd Criticized

Greg Beacham, AP - [Full Article]

A day after San Francisco 49ers' WR Brandon Lloyd made seven catches for 119 yards in a loss to Seattle, head coach Mike Nolan revealed he had spoken to his top wideout twice last week about sharp-edged comments regarding his teammates and the media after a loss to Chicago one week earlier. Nolan said Lloyd could have alienated some of his teammates with his words after the 49ers' loss to the Bears. Lloyd failed to make two key catches in wind-swept Chicago, but blamed one of the plays on QB Cody Pickett, saying the quarterback had thrown a ball before his pattern developed.

Not like that. What Lloyd needs is a QB and a decent running game. He could be Top 10-15 easily if SF would improve in those areas.

Maybe because that's what happened? :football: Tough season, but if they improve this year, all will be forgiven with wins.

I'm might shoot for him this offseason. He's younger than I thought, and could really grow into the feature receiver in SF, though I think Battle may become their possession player if he can stay healthy. But Lloyd could be a 70 catch, 1000 yards, and 10 TD guy if things fall in line for him.

I think we're forgetting one minor thing - Nolan doesn't seem to have a lot of faith in him, and perhaps for good reason.Despite his stick-em hands, I don't get the sense that this guy has the stones to be a #1 WR. It takes consistency, great route running ability, hard work, and fearlessness - maybe I'm way off, but I don't see him as having all these traits. As for the QB, I only give some credence to it. He didn't do that much with Rattay the year before, and Rattay could at least throw the ball.

odd comparison but I understand your point which is quite valid. Do you think he could be a great WR? Young guy makes sweet catches tends to make FF folks drool but what's your outlook on him?edit I see above post

anyone know his contract situation? i could seriously see him not signing back with the 9ers no matter what ... yeah, the franchise tag, i know, but with the shaky situation with the coach and teammates ... maybe he wouldn't be a franchise candidate.-orphan

orphan, aside from protecting the player the franchise tag guarantees the player gets paid a ton for a year, he's not worth franchise tag type money

Best WR by far on the 49ers, but Nolan doesn't seem to like him & he's a RFA this year I believe.Hope as a Lloyd owner, that they let him walk & they can continue to suck for the next decade (i.e. I don't believe Alex Smith develops into even a remotely good QB). It'd be nice if Indy franchised Wayne (someone gives them the picks -- 1st and 3rd?), they spin one of the picks (the 3rd) to SF for Lloyd  . Maybe wishful thinking

I've watched Lloyd closely throughout his career with the 49ers, and it's actually quite amazing what kind of rep this guy has developed.Lloyd will literally have 5 balls thrown to him and if 4 of them are catchable and hit him right in the chest, he will most likely drop them. However, when he makes 1 great catch in those 5 attempts that gets played on ESPN Primetime, NFL Live, etc. people think that they guy is a 'big-time playmaker' and one of the top WRs in the league.

The guy is way too inconsistent to get anywhere near franchise money, and doesn't have the cajones to become on of those 'franchise guys' either.

When have you ever see this kid make and amazing catch and get absolutely crushed be a FS or SS, and still manage to hold onto the ball?

You never have and you probably never will!

Not that I think Lloyd is a top 10-15 receiver even if Smith improves, but Lloyd was WR12 in PPG after week 4. Week 5 and beyond, he pretty much sucked, but guess who was the QB in weeks 1-4? It was Rattay, who still only had 167 yards per game passing, but was a bit better than Alex Smith's atrocious 97, that's right, 97 yards per game. So, Lloyd was actually the #12 WR after week 4 and finished as WR36 at the end of the year because of the Alex Smith debacle. Now, I still wouldn't draft Lloyd until my WR5/6 because I have no faith in Alex Smith, but Lloyd was actually looking like a servicable WR3 in 2004 (5 of 11 games were above WR24 average ppg). Lloyd had 5 TD receptions last year, which is phenomemal when you consider that SF only had 8 total.Again, if somehow SF could actually get over 3000 yards and 15+ TDs passing (they had 3455 and 16 TDs with Rattay/Dorsey in 2004), then Lloyd could easily get 1000 yards and 8 TDs (WR15) as the #1 WR on SF.

Thats absurd, even as hyperbole. The only reason Lloyd gets noticed dropping a pass here and there is because, well he's Brandon Lloyd and everyone knows he has great hands. Better WRs than him have been accused of the dropsies (TO, D-Jax).This is a team that threw for 1898 passing yards and 8 tds last season, Lloyd accounted for 733 and 5 (39% of yardage and 63% of tds). Consider about 450 of those yards were dump offs to RBs and Lloyd personally accounted for better than half the 9ers passing game last season. Thats astounding. This guys the real deal, put him on a real team and he's a top 15 reciever at least.

Pointless speculation based on an impossible premise: what would Lloyds numbers look like if he retained the same percentage of production on a real offense:Arizona: 1730y 13 tds (who knew Arizona led the league in passing yards?! 4437!)NE: 1606y 18 tdsIndy: 1597y 20 tdsNone of that means anything. But im bored. :loco:

Warms my heart and puts a smile on my face every time I think about this being around the time when I traded Lloyd for Rod Smith.

That was a heck of a trade!

I knew Lloyd was going to do worse, but that was because in week 4 Smith got into the game and he started week 5 on. I didn't think Smith would end up average under 100 yards a game passing. That is just so bad it hurts thinking about it.
