Brandon Marshall v AJ Green (1 Viewer)

After CJ and Dez...is it a toss up between these two?

While both are primary targets on their respective teams, it seems to me that Chi has more weapons which could either enhance Marshall or take targets/touches away whereas Aj doesn't have as many weapons to contend with.

Which QB will get better protection?

Whose would you take and why?

Who are these weapons you speak of for the Bears? If anything the Bengals added Eifert and Bernard. Martellus Bennett won't steal targets from Marshall.

I think both are pretty even. The big difference with Marshall is the change in offense. That can potentially hurt his value. Both have some risk involved. That said, both are studs.

Generally in mocks I've done, Dez goes before AJ and Marshall...hence my comment and I am sure an arguement can be made for all three of them being the 2nd WR off the board...

All 3 are pretty damn close in regular scoring leagues. It's not really that much of a stretch to think Dez could be #2 this season.

AJ is still emerging and would be my choice. Marshall has peaked and the ups and downs of a new coaching staff could lead to problems.

just re-word the questions without the assumed better picks since the pundits here get testy and will waste your time...learned that a long time ago.

It's close but I would go with Marshall in PPR. He'll likely get a few more receptions than Green, and on paper the Bears have an easier schedule vs. the pass compared to the Bengals.

I'm leaning towards Green, although I have more to say about Marshall.

As per the OP. It's not that CHI has more weapons, it's that Trestman intends to actually use said weapons this year. Forte was criminally underutilized last year in the receiving game and CHI was rather one dimensional (Marshall was force fed the ball (192 targets)). The amount of targets Marshall amassed becomes even more impressive when you factor in CHI's 27th ranking in pass attempts last year. It was clearly a very good situation for Marshall (2nd only to Megatron on a PPG basis in both PPR and standard), not so much for the CHI offense.

With Trestman comes more pass attempts but also more creativity. It's a double-edged sword I suppose and brings with it a hint of uncertainty. That being said, Marshall will undoubtedly get his. Although I'm not sure he'll be able to match his career high reception/yardage/TD totals, I believe he will remain top 5.

When pertaining to Green, it's a bit more simple. The sky is the limit (we have not witnessed his ceiling yet) but whether or not he reaches his ceiling is tied into the progression of Dalton. I'm still not 100% sold on Dalton but I do think he will improve on last years numbers as he and the talent around him grows. Subsequently, so will Green.

In PPR, you could call it a wash, but I'm likely taking Green before Marshall if he's available regardless.

I can't believe no one has brought up Julio Jones in this thread so allow me. I don't think Dez, Green, Marshall and Julio can be separated without considerable debate and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Just as I would be happy with Charles, Martin or Spiller, I'll take whoever drops to me and focus on the many tougher aspects of fielding a competitive team.

Well out of that group, look for Julio to fall to you.

The question is, if you we're at the top of round 2 and wanted a WR, which of the four would you take?

FWIW - Drafted yesterday in a very savvy, competitive 1PPR.

Top 11 WRs in order taken:

Calvin

Dez

BMarsh

AJG

Julio

Fitz

DT

Cobb

Cruz

Andre

Roddy

Jimmy G went between AJG and Julio.

I've been doing a ton of PPR mocks the past 3 weeks or so and I'd say Green is the 2nd WR off the board 90% of the time. If he falls to you'll I'd take him no questions asked.

Granted I didnt watch Marshall a ton last year but the games I saw Green play in he was an absolute beast. Physical, fast and never took plays off. Going with his age and qb I think Green gets the nod here slightly but Marshalls target number will keep him close.

I think you are splitting hairs with these 2 though.

I do agree that Dez is the #2 right now. It seemed like the last 6 or so games last year that he and Romo finally figured it out and that has carried into this preseason. Dez has looked incredible in the 2 games I have watched.

I'm drafting in the 12 spot in one of my leagues and it's very tempting to grab 2 of these guys so I've been considering this quite a bit myself. Before seeing the last Bears preseason game I would have said Green and Dez are both more valuable than Marshall even in PPR. The reasoning behind that was that Marshall was a PPR beast last year and that's what made him more valuable and this year all the news coming out was that they were going to be more balanced. I believed it until I saw Cutler hit Marshall 3-4 times in a row and single handedly drove down the field for a TD. They can say what they want but Cutler is in love with Marshall and he's the one throwing the ball, not Trestman. I think it's a toss up between these 3 guys, but I'd still probably go with Green and Dez before Marshall.

In situations like these i tend to look at the strength of schedules to help break the tie. That said, i think i like Romo best out of the QB's throwing to these 3 studs. Therefore, i'd probably pick Dez 2nd.

I put Julio squarely OUTSIDE of this group. Right with Demaryius Thomas.

Julio's best season is WR9 (standard scoring) and is splitting offensive production with Roddy White, Gonzalez, as well as the new tool in Steven Jackson. Julio is also inconsistent week to week and gets dinged up. I know it's his third year, so if you believe the third year WR thing, he might shine...but in my mind I emphasize the might.

Give me Calvin - Dez - Marshall - Green - Julio - Thomas in that order

how do you think that Welker will effect Thomas's stats. I like Thomas a lot as well I just cannot wrap my mind around what welker does to that offense pro or con for thomas

I don't see how Welker doesn't positively affect DT.

I don't know. And I've read a bunch in the threads on here regarding Welker going to Denver as well as the Denver WR spotlight. I'm leaning towards the majority who think Welker primarily takes over for the scattered targets to TE's, backs, and various (non Thomas/Decker) WR's from last year...while taking from Decker beyond that and either being essentially neutral to Thomas or even helping by improving the offense's ability to move the chains/keeping defensive attention keen on the underneath/middle of the field.

But there is room to regress with Welker in town. The Peyton to Thomas connection last season was the highest rated QB to WR connection in the league, that is not likely to repeat. Thomas may not repeat his very high catch % either. But Manning isn't coming right off the injury now, his arm strength looks good, he's been able to establish rapport...I like it.

In my main league I took Thomas and Welker as my first two WR's, so....we'll see how that goes.

Since when is Dez the automatic #2?
This is my question as well.
Agreed. I'd take Green as my #2 and Dez as my #3. I love Marshall and had him last year in one league, just missed him by one pick in another, but for some reason I am hesitant on him this year. Not hesitant as in I won't draft him, but just worried that he won't get force fed like last year. I would probably take Marshall #4, then Jones and Thomas.

BTW, see you on Sunday at the draft.

I tend to lean toward ranking them as

Calvin

Dez

AJ

Marshall

But the last three are super close. I'd be happy with any of them. I think those four (and maybe Julio) make up a very distinct tier at the top, and then there's a big group of solid WRs that I'd roughly put together.

I've always been big on taking RBs, and really like the RB options in the first two rounds. I'm picking 9th (10 teamer) in one league, and I'm pretty positive I'm going to go RB-WR or vice versa. And I really like the options that provides, in the mocks I've done I've really liked my teams when I do something like McCoy/Green or Dez/TRich
