Brandon Marshall (1 Viewer)

Stokley had one great season, and that was when Manning had his record setting season. He is nothing but a low level WR3-4.
Stokely had one HEALTHY season in Indy. Funny how you leave that part out. Stokely averaged 3.4 receptions, 46.7 yards and 0.36 TDs per game in Indy as a WR3 during his 4 years. Over a 16 game season that would be 54 receptions, 747 yds and 5.75 TDs. I hardly think that is anything to sneeze at, expecially if you take that off the top of the already small Den WR pie. Not that I expect that kind of production from him in Den.

All I know is I'm F-in' thrilled to own him in my dynasty leagues.

This year, I hope to use him as my #4/5 WR, bye-week, injury fill-in. I guarantee he beats the crap outta your #4/5 WR. :goodposting: Redraft, he should be taken as a 4/5.

Next year and beyond, he's an every-week fantasy starter.
Wanna bet? (your guarantee)Going by FBG projections he is ranked 6th, 8th, 7th, 8th, and 6th of my teams wr's by the staff.

I think he could put up 50/700/6 this season, but I'm not counting on him doing that.

He has had one great year in his career. He played 15 of 16 games in 2005 (I consider that being healthy), and he had 41 catches for 543 and 1 TD. That is the only season he had over 25 catches outside of his ONE great year. Factor in dropping from Manning to Cutler, and coming off a torn achilles and it tells me he isn't going to do much. He will be lucky to catch 30 passes in Denver.

It's difficult to look to history as a guide here. IMO, this will be the deepest WR corps I've ever seen in a Bronco uniform. JWalker, RSmith, BMarshall at the top three, followed by BStokley and DHixon. Should all five be healthy, it will be interesting to see how the passes are distributed. If three are healthy, that's still 1 more decent WR than the Broncos have had since the Three Amigos.

I wonder if it might be worth wile to look at other models outside of Denver to get a feel for how this breaks down - other WCO, in particular.

Wow! If that's the case, you must be absolutely stacked at WR.

If Stokely puts up anything near 30 rec or 500 yds, then Marshell's numbers will be significantly impaired.

Jim on demand: Marshall matters

By Jim Armstrong

Denver Post Staff Writer

Pick a year, any year, and there's a certain sameness to training camp. Every summer, players emerge and players regress, story lines develop and some issues become bigger than others.

So what's the No. 1 issue of Camp Shanny '07? That would be Brandon Marshall's continued absence.

This being Jay Cutler's first camp as the starting quarterback, the coaches wanted him to get as much work as possible with the No. 1 offense. But as long as Marshall isn't in uniform, the No. 1 unit won't be on the field.

With Rod Smith sidelined — it's a virtual given he'll open the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list — Marshall's development is more crucial than ever to the Broncos' big picture.

So what happens? Marshall joins Smith on PUP with a strained quadriceps.

With each passing day, Marshall's absence becomes a bigger concern. The coaches projected him to become a go-to guy for Cutler in his second NFL season. Now the powers that be are questioning whether he can play through injuries.

"There are two sides to the game," Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist said. "There's a physical side to the game and there's a mental side to the game. And you've got to be able to master both of them. There have been a lot of upside physical receivers who never quite accomplished what people expected them to because of the mental side."

Marshall said before camp that he hoped to be on the field in a week to 10 days. That needs to happen, the sooner the better. Brandon Stokley's impressive performance has enabled the coaches to breathe a sigh of relief, but the Broncos are a better team if Marshall is healthy and productive.

"We're counting on Brandon," said Sundquist. "We put a lot of time and effort into coaching him, getting him ready, but ultimately on a Mike Shanahan team you've got to go out on the field and perform. You're never going to be a finely tuned Ferrari quarter to quarter to quarter. At some point in time, your timing is a little off, there's a little wear on the tread and your oil is going to be low. It's never going to be 100 percent."

Marshall is one of these guys that has me pulling my hair. A lot of people seem really excited about him, but then there are these questions about injuries and his maturity level. Now Bob Henry writes this in his training camp report:

"The news on Brandon Marshall varies depending on who you talk to. Some people say he’ll be out just a few days, others say that he could miss over half of training camp – and maybe more. The buzz around Marshall was not good, as many people feel that while talented, Marshall may never put it together to be a consistent WR in the NFL."

Double You Tea Eff ?

Is he that much of a risk? Are Vincent Jackson and Greg Jennings safer bets in dynasty leagues? The staff here at footballguys has a big boner for Marshall, and I'd love to believe them, but is it likely that he'll blow up his career before it's even started?

It's possible. I think that one thing that is tough about the job of scouting is that you have very little insight into the mental/desire makeup of a prospect. Most people could have seen Marshall in college and got excited about him and seen some TO and Moss in his skills and body type. But you can't really look into his mind and see if he has the desire to do what it takes. NFL teams get to look at the Wonderlic or other tests like that (IIRC the Giants have a very involved one each year. Would be interesting to see if they have fewer "mental busts" in their picks than other teams). But most of us don't have that advantage. And even that advantage is hit and miss. It's an inexact science. Honestly, the safest prospects are probably those that had to battle back from adversity during the college career, be it injury, coaches doghouse, off the field trouble, academics, etc. Seeing them really get back from that is probably the best insight into their desire to excel that we have.

Well, it seems that he's getting called out a bit by the coaching staff. Not sure if they think he needs to play through it or what but it seems like they believe in his talent....get the feeling he isn't as dedicated as they'd like him to be. Maybe it will light a fire under his ### and he'll come out of this more mature.

So far, still on the sidelines. I passed worried more than a week ago, now I'm :goodposting:After I saw how deep the frustration is with Marshall first hand at camp, and adding in that he STILL hasn't suited up yet, well, maybe we are seeing why he fell to the 4th round.

Damn Bloom, and here I was all excited that someone bumped up the thread, I thought there was a Marshall sighting.....I've been scouring the Internet for updates on him but can't really find anything. I don't even know a time table for his return anymore.

Disappointed is an understatement, but this is something you can't scout on film, as Construx was saying above. Can't win em all... It feels like this whole quad issue has put him in a tailspin, and the team's strategy is basically to move on and see if he can catch up... so far there's no signs that he's eager to get out there.

He (Marshall) won't play in the preseason opener Monday in San Francisco and says his hope is to be able to practice at least some against the Dallas Cowboys in combined workouts next week. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nfl/...5667255,00.html

Every quote I hear from Shanny on the him or wr's he seems to be exasperated at Marshalls absense. One good thing is that it may be cheaper to take a flyer on him that he's been on the sidelines as opposed to impressing in camp. At the end of the day he will be a better #2 wr than anyone on their roster, it may just take a little longer now.

This is a thread about potential for a player that desperately needs to develop an on the field presence.

Marshall needs to learn to attack the ball. He can't do that if he's in the tub, missing out on reps and not playing....not getting better.

He's gaining a reputation and the reputation he's gaining is not a good one.

When Stokley and Hixon are cementing their places on the roster, Marshall is loosing ground and loosing ground fast. He needs to get on the practice field and out of the tub.

:(

BTW, unconfirmed reports from camp are saying that Marshall was running some routes today. Not sure at what speed or how much, but it is encouraging nonetheless.

Major news flash from Dove Valley: In a matter of minutes Friday, Brandon Marshall left the PUP list and Mike Shanahan's doghouse.

Shanahan and his coaches were growing increasingly frustrated by Marshall's absence while he nursed a strained quadriceps. But that became yesterday's news when Marshall participated in his first practice.

Now the issue becomes whether Marshall can turn into the player the coaches envisioned during off-season mini-camps. Which is to say, a go-to guy who can stretch the field and make the tough catch over the middle.

If you're a fantasy leaguer, you're probably wondering about Marshall. As in, how much will his numbers go up from last season, when he caught 20 balls for two touchdowns as a rookie?

First things first, look for Marshall to reclaim the top spot on the depth chart, which has been occupied by Brandon Stokley. Once he does that, expect him to at least double his numbers from last year. If not, it would be a huge disappointment.

Assuming Marshall wins the starting job, Stokley would move to the No. 3 wideout spot, the role the Broncos projected for him after he signed as a free agent. That would leave Domenik Hixon, Brian Clark and David Kircus as the most likely candidates for the Nos. 4 and 5 spots, with Rod Smith a virtual lock to start the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

FINALLY, some positive news... I'm not going to get too excited yet. The frustration with Marshall was palpable around Dove Valley. I'll be watching this closely when I take in the joint Cowboy/Bronco practices at Valley Ranch next week.

FINALLY, some positive news...
http://www.gazette.com/sports/marshall_259...e_shanahan.html
Marshall said he had some pain at first, but as the scar tissue broke up, he felt good and kept going into drills even though the team told him to take it easy. Finally, Marshall said trainer Steve Antonopulos had to force him to stop.

“It probably took coach Shanahan and (Antonopulos) to get me out there and push me to be aggressive on it and don’t be so gun shy,” Marshall said.

Shanahan said after reviewing tests and X-rays that the team was confident that Marshall couldn’t hurt himself further.

Brandon Marshall: I’m sure by now everyone has already learned that Marshall was out and working out today. Since that is the hot topic of the day, I’ll address it immediately. Shanahan informed us that MRI showed the injury healed save for a bunch of scar tissue. Scar tissue is painful but harmless and needs to be worked loose through using the area. Marshall has never been injured before so his understanding of playing with pain versus playing injured was limited. He had never dealt with that before. Shanahan made him go out onto the field again.

He went through all the drills and scrimmages and made some nice plays. I was surprised how not-rusty he looked. Even with all the time off, right away he looked better than the other guys we had out there save Walker. I was totally amazed at how good looked. He was very fluid and his stride looks very good. He displayed great leaping ability. He wasn’t exploding off the line like he used to, and at times he seemed a little tentative, but he knew his routes and was getting open very consistently. Toward the end of practice he was running with a bit more confidence and beat Champ Bailey of all people on a deep post pattern that Jay threw. It was amazing especially for coming back so soon. I asked him about that play during his press conference and how it helped his confidence and he kind of gave me a “that’s juts what I do” kind of answer and then said Jay threw a good ball. The target game for him is Dallas or Cleveland. Shanahan said he’ll need two weeks to get back into football shape.

Wow! That is just gold....great stuff rascal.

From Dallas Morning News Blog (Cowboys and Broncos are having combined practices):

10:33 -- This Brandon Marshall kid is impressive. Just made an easy TD catch over Aaron Glenn. Hope nobody in my fantasy football league is reading this, because Marshall will make a heck of a late-round pick.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Some other Marshall related notes from the same blog:

9:42 -- Denver WR Brandon Marshall, a 6-4, 230-pound second-year guy who reminds some folks of a raw, young T.O., did a nice job using his body to shield Terence Newman for a TD on a fade route.
10:09 -- Denver WR Brandon Marshall caught ball between Bradie James and Akin Ayodele at goal-line.

If it was an easy TD what's the big deal? :goodposting:

I see Marshall as a huge upside guy and clearly the second passing option in this offense. Stokley and Smith are such lower quality options than Marshall at this point. Marshall also got a lot of reps with Cutler last season in practice while both on the 2nd offense.

Marshall will be a solid WR3. He has all the physical gifts. The only risk are these nagging injuries.

Talked to Brandon again today after practiceeee
Way to tease...details?
Just happy to be back, should play this weekend. Enjoying fielding some punts. He was with the first team the whole practice again.
How did he look physically? Any favoring of the quad?
No favoring of the quad, its not even wrapped. He looks as good as he ever has, gliding through cuts, hanging in the air and adjusting well to poorly thrown balls, making the first move after the catch before the DB can process it, good ole EEEE

Heads up Marshall's that guy that goes way before his ADP. There always seems to be 1 or 2 guys really big on him that reach fairly early, so if you want him go early rather than late. I experienced this in 2 different dynastys and this was while he was out with the hammy, expect even more of a bump if you want him.

 Can't imagine he'd be available in ANY dynasty league. Dude went mid-second in every league I particpated in last year.

WOW, he's on the waiver wire in my league. I'm targeting him with my #5 overall "FA" pick in my upcoming draft.
