Brandon Short to remain at WLB (1 Viewer)

Little surprising to me, but Short has been awful impressive on the weak side.

NY Daily News blog

With LB LaVar Arrington out for the season, Coughlin has decided to leave Brandon Short on the weak side and use a combination of Carlos Emmons and Reggie Torbor to replace Arrington on the strong side. Emmons has missed the last three games with a slightly torn pec. If he’s healthy, he’ll very likely get the starting nod.

Sweet - I thought I had wasted a waiver move and some zbucks on Short yesterday, but this is good news.

Not likely. Short has been the better player (vs Emmons) on the weakside. Emmons is a better SAM than WILL anyway so the move makes sense on multiple levels. I will say I've been pleasantly surprised by Short's play to date. I didn't think he had it in him to play at this level. Barring injury, Short should stick at WLB for the duration.

Any news on Short's injury?
Nothing new that I know of - (KFFL) New York Giants LB Brandon Short (quadriceps) missed practice Wednesday, Nov. 1, and probably will not practice this week. Tests taken on his quadriceps revealed nothing more than a strain, but the injury could keep him out Week 9. ------------------------------------------------------------New York Giants LB Brandon Short is questionable this week. Gerris Wilkinson would possibly get the start this week if Short can't play. Sam Madison (hamstring), and David Tyree (ankle) are also questionable. Nov. 1 - 4:15 p.m. ET - Giants.com

With Short likely out this week -- and it seems like it could be for longer, who gets the tackles love this weekend against the IDP friendly Texans? Wilkinson looked decent with 5 solos, but Emmons has more experience. Torbor is an option, and now throw Claiborne into the mix. Do we have another dreaded LB rotation on our hands? I sure hope not and, while I am only speculating, I would think Coughlin's the kind of defensive minded coach that likes to establish players in key positions, especially for the second half of the regular season. If anyone's been listening to NFL Sirius, perhaps Greg Papa has provided some Giants inside info. Otherwise, any NYG homers out there that have heard anything locally? Thanks and cheers! :banned:

According to Coughlin, the current depth chart reads SLB Emmons/Torbor, WLB Short/Wilkinson/Claiborne. Coughlin has lined up differently on game day than practice a couple of times already this season, so while it looks like Wilkinson is probably the guy here, it's probably written in pencil for now.Newsday

LB Chris Claiborne joined the team on the practice field for the first time after signing on Monday. The eight-year veteran will work as a weak-side linebacker to start out, according to Coughlin, behind Wilkinson as insurance if Short can't play on Sunday . . .

Claiborne will initially work at weakside linebacker, where the Giants have already used three players. Carlos Emmons started the first three games before missing three with a pectoral strain. Brandon Short started the last four games, but injured his quad in last week’s victory over Tampa Bay and is listed as questionable for Houston. Emmons couldn’t step back into the position, because he is now the starter on the strong side, where he replaced LaVar Arrington (out for the season after surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon). Rookie Gerris Wilkinson stepped in for Short against the Bucs.
