Braves need a SP (1 Viewer)

--Chuck James gives 5-6 quality innings but his PC is so high, he doesn't last more than that.

--JoJo Reyes is getting rocked in this start and got rocked in his last. Lasted 3.0 IP today and 4.0 IP the past game. Add to the fact that he pitches behind James and you have the makings of a massively overworked bullpen.

--Buddy Carlyle can be an innings eater but he absolutely MUST be if the pen is getting milked in the two starts before him

How long can the Braves pull this off?

Please see Jamie Moyer, Adam Eaton, Kyle Kendrick, and Kyle Lohse.TIA.

Buddy Carlyle looks pretty solid of late.

The Braves stacked the pen with the lefty from Texas and Dotel. Who cares if Jo Jo and Chuck can only give you 5 or 6 innings a game, as long as they keep you in the game when your pen takes over.

You shored up the pen, let them do their job. The lineup trumps all NL teams now that Tex is manning 1B (even the Mets, though that's debatable).

That lineup takes a little bit of a dip if Yunel Escobar is in for Renteria.

Ankle sprain costs Renteria'He's going to miss some games,' Cox saysBy CARROLL ROGERSThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 08/03/07 Everything turned for the Braves when shortstop Edgar Renteria left the game in the eighth inning Thursday night with a sprained ankle. The Braves announced he is day-to-day and he'll be re-evaluated Friday.Renteria hurt his ankle while fielding a ball with Rafael Soriano trying to hold a 9-5 lead. Having used Yunel Escobar to pinch hit, manager Bobby Cox was forced to shift Chipper Jones to shortstop and Willie Harris to third for the first time in his career."He's going to miss some games," Cox said. "Hopefully not two weeks -- maybe three or four games, I don't know. But his ankle is not good, and he hurt his back also. The ball kind of took him back and he rolled over his ankle."

I think they'll be fine with Escobar at ss and in the lineup, as long as it isnt' too long.

The bigger issue, indeed, is a 5th starter. Something has to be done. My guess is that someone comes up from the minors and gives it a go.

Far be it from me to 2nd guess Bobby Cox, but... when Renteria went out, why didn't he just put Kelly Johnson at SS and Harris at 2nd? Less interruption and keeps your 3rd baseman at home. That cost them an error, which was the tying run, that sent it to extra innings. Made no sense to me.

Paging Shurholtz, Dave Littlefield on line 1.

Not even remotely debatable. The Braves have the better lineup and I'm a Mets fan. Pitching is going to decide who takes the division. 2nd place will likely take the Wild Card.

What is Jose Lima doing these days?

Edit to add: What is wrong with Soriano these days? Not looking good at all.

Yep, and knowing Littlefield, the Pirates will trade Matt Morris to the Braves and the Pirates will still end up paying all of Morris' salary for this year. Littlefield might even throw in the money to pay for next year's salary too.

:D Those guys average at least 6IP an outing- all are above that mark except for Eaton, who is at 5.6IP/outing.

Chuck James @ 5.5IP/outing

JoJo Reyes @ 4.55IP/outing

Buddy Carlyle @ 5.85IP/outing

That adds up to 11.1 IP from the Bullpen over a three game stretch. Thats far too much.
Absolutely. Not to mention that they have had SIX games go extra innings since the All Star break. That's just ridiculous. And 3 of them have been over 12 inning games. That's just way too much work for the bullpen. I think that they'll make the playoffs, but unless another pitcher steps up they have no shot at a WS.

Sadly, this is true. Yes, we are scoring 12 runs a game...and allowing 12 runs, too.

Currently no #5 on the roster with JoJo Reyes being sent down and Lance Cormier, who once was considered a back end starter, bombing yet again after his upgrade from AAA.

Thank god for an off day Monday as we only have 4 SP on the roster. Can we expect a trade soon?

Blaine Boyer has been working as a starter in the minors, though I would like to see Oscar Villareal become a starter and then call Paronto back up.
