Braves sign Garrett Anderson (1 Viewer)

Reportedly a one year deal for around $2.5M.

This move has me :lmao: . Anderson is old and not very good any more. The Braves have a bunch of young OFs (Blanco, Brandon Jones, Josh Anderson, Jordan Schaefer) in addition to Francoeur and Diaz. This isn't exactly a vote of confidence in them.

I suppose it's not a terrible signing unless they play him every day.

:loco: He had a decent year last year. They are going to platoon him with Diaz. The move makes perfect sense as the Braves OF is horrible.

 This should allow the Braves to give Anderson plenty of days off throughout the season. GA shouldn't play at all against LHP.

As Eephus said, as long as they don't use him like a plowhorse, he'll be useful. He won't replicate his solid 2007 numbers, but if he goes in line with what he did in 2008 with more rest, then this isn't a horrible signing.

I just hope he doesn't try to mentor Francouer on being more selective at the plate. :trainwreck:

Bobby Cox has success with platoons going back to Garth Iorg/Rance Mulliniks. The Braves should at least be able to get league average production from Anderson/Diaz or Anderson/???.

The bigger fantasy implications are for the other young Braves OFs. CF looks like the only open slot unless Francoeur falls off the face of the map. Only the deepest NL only leagues need to care whether Gregor Blanco, Josh Anderson or whoever wins the job in camp.

Garrett Anderson is just keeping the other corner warm for Jason Heyward anyway.
