Albuquerque police are investigating reports of a possible active shooter and hostage situation at City Hall, which houses both city and county government officials.
Police have not said if anyone was injured. Officers have surrounded Civic Plaza and City Hall, and multiple undercover and SWAT team members were seen responding after 6 p.m.
“Information is limited at this time, but it is being reported there is a hostage situation,” Albuquerque police spokesman Mike Schroeder said. “Citizens are advised to avoid the area.”
Members of the City Council Finance Committee were meeting on the 9th floor of the building. They were told to leave the meeting and go to individual locked offices.
Officers were working to clear Civic Plaza.
Albuquerque police Chief Gorden Eden is at the scene.
