NFL sources have confirmed to me at this hour that former Denver Bronco Javon Walker will sign a deal to join the AFC west rival Oakland Raiders barring any unforeseen glitches.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available for this report.

The day after the Broncos season ending victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Walker announced to the media that, “I don’t see it happening with Javon here.”

The Broncos subsequently released the superstar wide receiver from the organization. Walker had 26 receptions for 287 yards this pass season.

Definitely not a surprising move. He fits the Raider mold, especially being a former Bronco.

If he can stay on the field, he will be very good for Russell

he would definitely help out russell. He must be healthy?
I dunno. But I am guessing there is a big roster bonus down the road that will ensure a decision gets made. Either Javon gets paid like a #1, or gets his freedom. With Ron Curry, Zach Miller, and nothing else out there, I am very much in favor of this move. The Raiders have the cap room, if they have to eat some money down the road, fine. This is the kind of chance this team has to take.

He'll fit in perfectly with the misfit Raiders franchise... I'm actually surprised I didn't see this coming earlier. That's typically where troubled players go when no one wants them.

Love how Javon still talks about himself in the 3rd person. The guy hasn't scored a TD since December 24th, 2006 and he still thinks he's hot ####

Have fun with that one Oakland! Glad GB got a steal for him when we shipped him to DEN... (funny how things worked out)

A perfect signing. Allows me to avoid Javon this year at all costs without worrying that it might hurt my fantasy chances. Some things never change.

looks like roughly the same dollars Randy Moss got. Glad this was signed after the Pats got the deal done. What a ridiculous contract for this guy, Raiders never learn.

isnt he with rosenhaus? damn that guy is good... so hes going to make pretty much the same as moss the next 3 years?

Oakland Raiders

On March 4, 2008, the Oakland Raiders signed Walker to a six-year, $55 million contract that included $16 million in guaranteed money. He will earn $27 million over the first three years of the contract.

I am absolutely dumbfounded by the amount of guaranteed money that Walker got. Wow.

Kind of an amazing thing, the Raider trashing on this board.

Go look at the thread which is still on page 1, about Walker being cut by Denver. To a man, the reaction was :goodposting:

Now that Oakland picks him up, he is certifiable trash. Go figure.

Another awful move by the Black Hole. I'm now convinced that they're going to draft Darren McFadden and complete an awe-inspiring triforce of busts with McFadden, Russell, and Walker.

It's not that he was signed, that's a given. It's what he was signed for that's alarming. Often injured and an attitude to boot.

You've already deemed Russell a bust? :lmao: There's gonna be some serious crow-eating by his critics... I'll tell you right now.

It's a hunch. He just seemed doomed from day one. Walker is a solid player and would be a great addition if healthy, but the chatter I've been reading about his knee is troubling.

Things have been so bad in Oakland of late that it's no secret they have to overpay free agents. My comments were directed more towards the "he's got a bad knee -- I don't want him on my fantasy team" crowd.

It is ridiculously hard to play QB in the NFL as a rookie. I'll give ANY quarterback at least two years to show something.

he was always trash with DEN... his knee is a mess and will always be a mess...coming from a physical therapist you can bet that weighs more than your typical fantasy nerd. Yes, I've never examined him, but what's been reported about his condition does not bode well for his healthy recovery... his return to top status without any limitations would be very shocking to me

I thought he was a bad pick from day one. He never really dominated in college like you would've expected given his awesome supporting cast. He has the physical skills to be a beastly FF QB, but I question his intangibles. Landing in the disaster zone in Oakland certainly didn't help his prospects either. It's too early to officially call him a bust, but I'm not optimistic. Of course, scouting QBs is extremely difficult and I felt the same way about Palmer as I do about Russell. Anything can happen.

With the position that the Raiders are in, and the state of free agency, and the money everyone had, it's a risk I am happy to take. They need to give Jamarcus weapons, they have the cap room, I prefer this guy to anyone else out there. It is a big gamble, but the Raiders have to take these gambles.I am a lot more upset about Tommy Kelly, that deal made no sense.

my reaction was due to not knowing that his knee was bad enough to cut himif his knee is that bad, this signing is horriblehopefully the truth is somewhere in between, but as you said, Oakland has to overpay

I've posted this in a couple recent threads about Walker:

Walker is due a $5.4 roster bonus this Monday (March 4) and sources believe it would be hard to a team to trade for a player who is coming off of knee surgery on a troublesome right knee. The surgery was done this past October and he missed a total of eight games last season. Denver head coach Mike Shanahan didn't deny that Walker could need microfracture surgery on his right knee somewhere down the line. Walker had ACL surgery on his right knee early in the 2005 season.“I think you’d have to talk to (head athletic trainer) Steve Antonopulos there. The doctors thought that after his surgery (back in October) that it would take five to six weeks to get back full speed. There’s talk of a microfracture (procedure) somewhere down the line. I don’t know when that’ll be, it could be two to three years from now, it could be four years, you just don’t know," the head coach said at his season-ending press conference last month.
If he's healthy, he'll be a good signing. But the prospect of microfracture surgery is frightening to say the least.

I have questions about his work ethic and character. One thing which really bothered me is that before he ever took a snap in the NFL, he's giving interviews wearing a huge gold chain which would take any of us about ten years to save up for. And he's buying $100,000 automobiles two seconds after signing his contract. He has all the ability in the world. I just hope he can stay grounded.

Aside from his physical health the thing I worry most about is his mental health. The shooting had a very adverse affect on his entire personality. It seemed like he tried to keep everything inside and was having a very hard time coping. He kind of reminded me of the C. Thomas Howell character in Red Dawn, where the hate was consuming him. To give him that kind of contract with all that going against him is a huge gamble especially coming off the Moss mess.

if it makes you feel any better, I have had a "no radier" policy for about 5 years now. Javon going to oakland makes it real easy for me to ignore.

Adam Schein interviewed Brandon Marshall on Sirius NFL Radio the day Walker was cut. Schein asked him straight out if the Darrant Williams shooting incident affected Walker's play. An emphatic "no" was the answer, though he did say a change of scenery would probably help Javon.

That does make me feel better, thank you. Please PM me if your policy changes.
