I don't know why you'd induce vomiting for food poisoning -- you usually take care of that all by your onesie.Sounds as if they're discussing gastric lavage or suction (saw NG tube noted in one of these threads) which is done in some toxicology cases. Sure.Snake a big ole tube down your nose and attach her to suction -- before or after dumping a bunch of saline (lavage) down the tube.

With suction gets rid of a backup of swallowed air if there's an obstruction or accumulated blood for bleeding. Lavage with saline aids in the diagnosis of bleeding or treatment of toxic "overdose".

Sounds like they're pumping his stomach. Often done for poison. Sometimes also done when you've got internal bleeding or you've got too much crap in you. Probably not an OD on painkillers.
