Brees Pre-Game Chant! (1 Viewer)

Football Critic

Footballguy
Its goes a lil somthin like this...............

Brees: "One."

Team: "Two."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "For you."

Brees: "Three."

Team: "Four."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "Some more."

Brees: "Five."

Team: "Six."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "For kicks."

Brees: "Seven."

Team: "Eight."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "It's great."

Brees: "Nine."

Team: "Ten."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "Again."

Brees: "Win."

Team: "Again."

And they continue with Brees yelling "win" and the team shouting "again" until it melts into a general mass of whooping and yelling.

As much as I was pulling for the Saints in the Superbowl, I found it ridiculously asinine that Brees refused to reveal what their chant was and acted like it was level 3 security clearance knowledge.

Maybe he just didnt want to unveil something personal with his comrads, so he waited until the end of the year, and to me...there is nothing wrong with that!

Could be.I remember hearing that he based it off of a Marine chant and the way he talked about it in the interview it just came off as a bit self important to me when you playing football and are comparing it to an organization like the Marines in any way.Not a big deal though.Celebrate away and congrats to the Saints and their fans.

He wrote it to rhyme, like.... 1, 2, Freddys comin for you!3, 4, Better lock your door!Blah Blah!Props to making a unique chant, somethin thats not like everything else!

I thought it would be something a little more clever or personal to the team or about the city, but whatever they seemed to like it and get fired up by it.

Me too. I'm not knocking the ritual, if it gets them fired up, awesome. I just REALLY wish I hadn't seen those words because now I feel compelled to make fun of it.

Revealed? This was on one of those crummy ESPN 60 things a while back.
Your correct it was, so then you already know he changed it week to week. Except for in the playoffs, which is posted above.

But none were ever really revealed by him.
And now we know why. He should have stuck to this. I can only imagine the week 7 verbal wizardry..One !!

Two !!

Win !!

A shoe !!

Three !!

Four !!

Win !!

A door !!

Five !!

Six !!

Win !!

For Trix !!

Seven !!

Eight !!

Win !!

Lactate !!!

Nine !!

Ten !!

Win !!!

We're friends !!!

None of them have them because its stupid. This isn't a group of pre-school girls.Brees is a GREAT QB, and he led his team to a SB victory. Give him props for that. He doesn't need props for creating a rhyming cheer like my little sister's softball team used to do during her games back in middle school.

So they played Knick-knack-paddy-whack?
This old man, he played one,He played knick-knack on my thumb;Knick-knack paddywhack,Give a dog a bone,This old man came rolling home. This old man, he played two,He played knick-knack on my shoe;Knick-knack paddywhack,Give a dog a bone,This old man came rolling home. This old man, he played three,He played knick-knack on my knee;Knick-knack paddywhack,Give a dog a bone,This old man came rolling home. This old man, he played four,He played knick-knack on my door;Knick-knack paddywhack,Give a dog a bone,This old man came rolling home. This old man, he played five,He played knick-knack on my hive;Knick-knack paddywhack,Give a dog a bone,This old man came rolling home.

I laughed when I heard it. It is funny in a school girl sorta way. Guy won a SB so who cares tho.

I much preferred the "This is New Orleans" schtick he did last year. I thought that was great.

Does it matter if it stupid? He gets them ready for the game mentally. Alot of soccer players grab a piece of the grass, kiss it, or do a cross or something for whatever reason but in the end it just is getting them ready for the game. Thats what Brees did, he got them ready for the game. Can you prove what his chant did for the team statistically, no but I bet it did have a huge effect.

The OP, of this thread,He played knick-knack on our heads,With a knick-knack paddywhack,Lyrics are REVEALED,Thread is way off in left field.Just kidding. Couldn't resist. I think the best description (can't remember source) of Brees in the huddle is that he doesn't behave like a quarterback. He's all jacked up, high energy like a defensive player. The fact that he protected these lyrics before the Super Bowl... fine... but, REVEALED came off a little Enquirer-ish.He got them up for the game, that's for sure! Whatever works!

I have seen interviews of Brees during the season where he reveals the lyrics. i don't think it was as covered up as most people outside of New Orleans think.

It is definitely Marine cadence, although from my experience it is a rarely used one. Lots of cooler ones he could have based it off of.

I'm a huge Saints fan and I have to admit that it sounded much cooler without the knowledge of what they were acutally saying.

I say we put together a new chant and send it to him. It needs to utilize words like bust, ###, smash, blood, bleed, crush, rip, etc...

For some reason I don't think 'Rolling down the river on a ####house door....' would have gone over so well with the Commish.

Kudos for the team to do anything to get themselves pumped up. And I never even thought about what they were saying before this thread.

Now, though, as the parent of a four-year-old, I'll never see that clip without chanting "one, two, buckle my shoe..."

Thanks guys. A lot. Really.

It's not the military marching cadence. That one goes (generically), "hup two, three, four. . .[and lots of things that rhyme with four]" then intermits with "left, left, left right left". The Saint's cadence is more along the children's rhyme, "one, two, buckle my shoe" (as I just posted above.)

eta: admittedly there is more than one marching cadence; this is the one I'm familiar with :excited:

Its not a marching cadence. It's a running cadence. Trust me on this one.

Will do, and my respects along with it as I'm guessing you're speaking from experience. Best!

None of them have an odd and mildly annoying splotch on the side of there faces either. Big Props to Brees for the splotch!!

 I've learned people just love to hate! How can u be upset at a guy hyping up his team and being a leader, I dont understand the point of bashing this!

IMO the chant is about the energy not the words!Brees is a team and family man, maybe thats not what he is trying to accomplish with the chant.

:goodposting: remind me... what was REVEALED?Sorry, obviously I'm having a hard time with the chant being "revealed" part of your initial post and I thought I had exorcised those demons earlier. Tag lines like that make my head explode like I was Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, but I'm getting over it.

If his chant is no longer about the words, then could you please change your initial post to reflect the relative change of perspective? Or, if you'd like, just picture my head exploding over and over and over again that would work as well.

I hope Saints fans keep celebrating. Mardi Gras starts in 3 days, 15 hours, and 50 minutes and it could turn into the longest party in American history.

Not changing it, sorry.I'll just let people continue to vent on a topic that was suppose to be fun for some football fans, I guess everything is critisized, even a fun topic like this.

No one knew what he said before, I'm sorry but Brees himself said he never told anyone until after the SB.

Revealed, yes it is now "REVEALED" because I seen no other thread about it, and it is about the energy...but it is possible to let people know what he said, no?

The apology should actually come from me for being overly critical. Letting people know was the right thing to do. :goodposting:

I believe it was, just trying to bring information to the forum. Thanks for the post, I dont feel so bad now, I thought I shouldnt have posted this for a minute.

Drew Brees, to me, seems like such a great guy... that being critical over something like this just seems a little unfair to him, but who am I, just another guy with an opinion.

Just my opinion here, but it seems to me that most of your posts are set up to produce attitudes and responses so that you can gripe at others griping at you. Its tiresome!

and I promise to let you have the last word as I am now done.

I dont understand your post, I like to discuss football. I ask a lot of questions, so yes I like responses, but for confontation no....And to be quite honest dont you believe that post should have been sent via PM?Its not about last word, again I have a lot of time on my hands being able to sit at a desk, and discuss football! After all is this board not to discuss football? and yes I would like a response.Good day! (And yes I said that with excitement)

:goodposting: Most of us are thrilled the Saints won. Few people hate them, and how can anyone hate Drew Brees? But that they get themselves fired up by playing knick knack paddy whack is hilarious. It's...different. :lmao:

:lmao: at the critics. He led, his team followed. It worked. End of story.
Good thing for that chant, whatever would they have done without it..
You don't know what impact it had...positive or negative. Players could have played harder...or softer...at certain moments for him, because of the respect they garnered or lost during that pregame moment that wasn't there completely prior.Leaders become leaders in different ways for different people. Some guys will 'die' for a QB just because he's the QB. Others need to see more. It's a joke to see people i-laughing at something a guy who successfully led 250-pound world-class athletes into battle did prior to that battle. Everyone here should be watching and learning.
