 Do you really think he would have had more yards with Colston? They just would have been divided up differently.

I was trying to remember the last time I had even HEARD of a 500+ yard passing game, and couldn't. Man, Brees throws that up............and STILL loses...

That's not what I was going for with this topic... although Colston does have an impressive YAC so far.The point is we saw 500 yard game. It's worth noting.

I agree!

generally 300+ yard passing games seem to be losing efforts. I dont have the stats (drinen?) but it seems that way.

The amazing thing to me is not that the Saints lost, it is that they only put up 16 points with 600 yards of offense.

I think this was the first 500+ game since Elvis Grbac did it as a Chief against the Raiders, in a 49-31 loss in 2000 I believe.

Van Brocklin (554 yards), Moon (527 yards), and Esiason (522 yards) all won their games, while Brees and Vince Ferragamo (509 yards) both lost. I was in attendance for Ferragamo's game - it took forever to finish.

me too - i've never seen one before, though they certainly happened during the time I have been watchig football.love the dish.

Wow I can't believe the media hasn't made a bigger deal about this. I didn't even know he threw for that many yards until I saw this post. Incredible stuff.

I remember watching that game by Moon. There were some drops that would have given him the record in that game as well, IIRC. I also believe Trent Green had a 500+ yd game several years back. I don't know where to look it up. It seems to me it was something like 505 or 510.

Green's best was in 2000 vs Carolina with 431 as a member of the Rams. He best with the Chiefs occurred in 2003 with 400 against Green Bay. Perhaps you're thinking of Grbac's 504 yard game in 2000 which was mentioned earlier.

I remember this game as well. It was against the Chiefs. I even remember that Moon had the record on a pass to Heyward Jeffries and then was called back because of a penalty.

When your defense is playing poorly you have to do something. If it was a tight game and the defense was stout, you would of seen Bush with 15 carries and McCallister with 20+...Most of the time you are behind the majority of the game. But the picks were real bad. Im no Brees fan, but he looked AMAZING, then looked like old rookie Charger Brees.

i was tied at the beginning of the 4th quarter. they were down 3 points at the half. why did he have 24 pass attempts at the half? 294 yards passing at the half? it was a close game until the begnals blew it open and the turnovers compounded the situation. we should have been running the ball more. barely 20+ carries between deuce and reggie when the lead is within reach is a mistake.

 I don't know how I missed that post, but I'm pretty sure that's the one I was thinking of.

As of now Brees is averaging 311.375 yards/game. He is on pace for 4,982 yards for the season. To get to 5,000 yards, he would have to AVERAGE 314.3 yard/game over the next 6 games. Anyone think he could do this?

Another interesting stat - Brees is AVERAGING 38.4 attempts/game. He's on pace for 600 attempts, and I can't think of the last QB who had that many attempts in a season other than Drew Bledsoe in '02 with the Bills

Make sure that we are not talking about OT games in these historical comparisons. Its easy to get an extra 100 passing yds in overtime.
Actually id argue it would be difficult to get 100 yards in an overtime period. If you are moving the ball well enough to throw for 100 yards, you have probably already scored.

I've seen this from both Brees and Eli a bit this year... just 2 or 3 INTs, much less the fumbles. Aint' just get in this shootout... and you are thinking... "yeah, he should finish with okay stats, all those turnovers and struggles, but he made up for it in the end"... and dude has 25 pts. Fantasy and real-life are different. But when they are outscoring Bulger (3 INTs on the year) or other QBs with good low-error games, I shake my head.

The saddest part is being a Colston owner and being bounced from playoff contention because he was injured :hey:
Unless you drafted him, you should be a bit more thankful that he saved your WR corps (in most cases). Many teams who reached for Colston that earlier, were already in a hole with their WRs.

:goodposting: was going to ask that question on stats and if they won or lost the game..thanks for the info!

Gannon (617) and Brady (601) also had over 600 attempts in 2002. Bledsoe holds the record with New England in 1994 with 691 attempts.
