Brent Celek 2009 (1 Viewer)

What do you guys expect from Brent Celek in 2009? He had a nice playoff run last season (although nothing great in the regular season) and is now the #1 TE for the Eagles, although they did draft Ingrim who is supposed to be very athletic and more of a receiving TE.

I think the odds are he catches around 50 balls which would put him in contention for top 10 TE. Ingram will likely get some GL looks and be in 2 TE sets, but Celek is still the starter. His game is similar to Jason Witten's IMO...he's got a ways to go to get there, but since he's won the job he's been a favorite target of McNabb's.

I also have him as a backup and I will hold him to see if he start the season where he left off in the playoffs last year.

3 playoff games :

19 rec.

151 yds.

3 TDs

He had a nice playoff, but were those just based on matchups, and defenders not respecting him? Look at his regular season stats - nothing impressive at all.

Ingram has been lighting it up in camp. I think he's gonna be a surprise this year and could get a lot of PT impacting Celek.

Love the guy, but I think caution is warrented. Ingram has been outstanding in camp, and has significantly better speed/agility. Celek will probably start and he has the offense down pat, but Ingram will eat into his time...a lot if Ingram is getting the O down. Celek is fool's gold in dynasty right now.

In redraft, he makes an intriguing #2, but I wouldn't grab him if I had a high risk #1 TE.

I've been reading reports that Ingram is pushing Celek... Also, I seem several mentions on twitter feeds from camp watchers, etc of Celek dropping passes or not being in sync with QB's...

The TE starter with the Eagles- if plays full time- will have oppurtunities though

I don't think these numbers can be dismissed so easily when they were against the best teams in the NFC with everything on the line. I am not touting him as a #1 TE, but I am holding him as a #2 / 2a, just to see if he can continue this level of production.

where did u read that at? everything i've seen says ingram has been better than expected, but celek is entrenched as the starter

No readings or nothing....been hearing it on the local sports radio. At any rate, it's still something to keep an eye on.

Cornelius Ingram missing practice to get an MRI on his previously injured and Eagles reportedly shopping for TEs.

Where did you hear the Eagles are still shopping for TE's? And if this is true, is this a reflection on Celek or because of Ingrim's injury?

If Philly lost Ingram, they would need another TE...Schobel is barely NFL roster worthy at this point in his career, and they have nobody else.In that scenario, Celek immediately becomes a solid backup with tremendous upside.

I own Celek in a bunch of league and backed him up with Ingram in the rookie drafts. Having enough pain and swelling a year after the surgery that it requires rest and an MRI is a horrible sign for Ingram. Definitely bump Celek IMO.

there goes Ingram with a torn ACL. Celeks role as a recieving TE looks pretty secure right now

I think you can scratch that last bit now. With no Ingram, he's a solid #2 or even a very cheap #1 if you wanna load up at other spots in your draft.

Looks like Celek is a stud, probably ahead of Chris Cooley and just behind Jason Witten. Doesn't matter who the QB is, Kolb or Mcnabb.

:lmao:

Going into the season I had Gates as my TE and Celek on my bench.

Going into this week's game I had Celek as my TE and Gates on the bench...

It paid off and I don't see any reason why I can't ride this guy all season. I'm now shopping Gates.

27 targets through 3 games. The guy is a stud.
And 23 of them came with Kolb at QB. Don't be surprised if his targets, catches & total yards mysteriously decrease when McNabb returns as QB.

Anybody worried that a healthy Curtis and healthy Westbrook will negatively impact Celek's numbers going forward? What about McNabb's return? Is it a coincidence that his targets increased once Kolb took over?

Don't get me wrong, I like Celek, but I'm debating shopping him or Olsen. Is he the real deal?

What kind of value are you guys seeing in Celek from a dynasty standpoint? Are you looking to buy him? Sell him? If you owned him, what type of WR would you be looking for in return? What would you be willing to pay for him? Just looking to gauge value on him.

He's scoring better than elite WR's right now. I couldn't sell him for any WR because there are way too much WR options out there. He's an elite WR at a TE position.

You saw the trade that went down in HA1. I traded Eli for Orton and Celek two weeks ago.

I am adding him off of waivers over Wr's Housmandzadeh, B. Edwards and D.Mason, and the flavor of the week backs (Choice, Coffee) I am doing this even though my RB position has left me hanging. I have S.Jackson, Forte, and FWP for backs so its not like I couldnt use a back. I also have A. Gates so I am strong at WR. I am making Celek my Waiver choice this week because I know he will be gone next week when he is off of bye and then I will shop Gates for a RB or WR. I hope its the right plan but never the less I have confidence in Celek.

Westbrook won't hurt his numbers much, but a little. I'm not sure Curtis will be healthy enough to impact him any more - he's looking like he's a slot WR at best from here out, and I expect Avant or Maclin to start the rest of the year.

McNabb didn't throw to him a lot because they were absolutely pummeling Carolina - not as much reason to throw.

If you don't have faith in Celek due to week one this year, check out last year's playoffs. He's the TE I wanted in all my redrafts, but got in none, due to the fall of a better TE in a few leagues, and sniping in a local league.

He's been on my bench behind Gates and Daniels (we start two) but I'm rethinking that decision.

I'm not ready to anoint Celek yet, but I'd rank the TEs:

1. Clark

2. Gonzo

3. Witten

4. Gates

Tier 2

5. Celek

6. Winslow

7. Keller

8. Cooley

9. Daniels

10. Olsen

In the last 7 games, I think Celek has had the most Eagles catches in 6 of them. And the one he didn't, the Giants playoff game, in horribly windy conditions, Celek still managed to catch a TD. The Eagles have few red zone options so expect a lot of plays drawn up for Celek...
