It probably mostly depends on how long Manning wants to play.

Since Manning had 26 TDs his rookie year and Favre had 0, Manning has always been ahead of Favre's production track. After 11 seasons (2008 for Manning), Manning was 46 TDs ahead of Favre (333-287). Favre went on to 27, 32, 30, 20, 18, 28, 22, and whatever he does this year. So, if we assume Favre throws 25 TDs this year and then really retires, Manning would need to average 20 TDs per season for 8 seasons to pass him. That's definitely doable...as long as Manning wants to keep playing and continues to avoid injuries.

Going with Favre since he's had such longevity. I just don't see Peyton Manning playing when he can no longer perform at his incredibly high level. I think he has too much pride to hang around when he's an average qb.

yeah...remember reading that Peyton wanted to retire around age 38. If Farve makes it to 500....assuming no injuries, peyton would have to play at least to 40 to have a shot. Advantage...Favre.

I don't know, it's a tough call. Let's say Farve retires with 500.

Let's say Manning throws 25 Td's per year, that would take him only about 6 or 7 years. That's throwing at a high level but it certainly seems realistic.

Unless there's a career ending injury soon, I know Peyton Manning will pass Brett Farve's 4th quarter comebacks, he's not that far behind now as it is.

yeah...and i think whoever wins this TD record race will hold it for quite a while!! No other qbs playing now gonna make it to 500....not even brady.

i read the other day that Favre wanted to play this season AND next. If he keeps hanging around...and looking like he did on Monday night....he's gonna put all these quarterback records out of reach...

You shouldn't be debating anything if you can't even spell the guy's name right.

Peyton has a shot but I don't see him playing for another 6 years that he'd need to get there.

Calm down skolnick.....we wouldn't want you to get your pocket protector all out of whack. Anyway, the whole point of writing is to communicate...and i don't think anyone here was confused as to whom I was writing about!! Bill

FYI......see post above yours--spelling has been corrected.

I think if Manning wants it he will break Favre's record. It will require playing for a long time but I think if he plays long enough he will own every passing record.

Favre is like a cockroach. The league could fold and he would still find a way to pad his records.

The better question might be, who retires first?

I notice Manning seems to be returning a bit to his stat padding days this year, throwing a lot of passes with big leads late in the game. He was probably not the happiest person when Brett decided to return. And Favre's return is probably at least partially motivated on padding his records. I think they're both very aware of where the other stands.

This weekend Favre=3; Manning=2

Favre=472

Manning=342

If Favre retires after next year...he should finish with around 510-515 TDs. Manning would then need to average about 25 TDs per year and play until he was 40 yrs old to break the record. Guess it definitely could be done....but gonna be tough.

Manning has averaged over 30 TD's per year in his career.At his current pace it will take him less than 5 more seasons to go over 500.In 5 more seasons he will be 38 yrs-old.With all the new sissy(Brady) rules that don't allow the defense to touch the qb, he should have no problem passing Favre.

What are you talking about? Or are you fishing? Only blowouts were AZ where he threw a 3rd quarter TD while up 11 and against Seattle (no TD passes in the 2nd half).

At his current pace Manning will hit 500 TDs in his 16th season.
His 49 TD season was a fluke so unless you think he'll do it again he'll need 6 season after this. He'll need to play at a high level without injuries until he is 39.

Fine. Subtracting the 49 TD season he is on pace to throw 500 TDs in week 11.3 of his 18th season.

He's gonna have to go until age 40+....can't expect him to average same amount to TDs at age 37,38,39,+ as he did in his prime!??Bill

Stat from last night: After 180 games Manning has more completions, TDs & wins than any QB ever.

The only things that will prevent him retiring on top of all the QB record lists are injury and his desire to continue playing.
