Brewers Close to Signing Gagne (1 Viewer)

Supposedly a one year deal. If this is true, kudos to Doug Melvin, who I think is an unreal gm. Lose Cordero, sign Gagne to a 1 year deal, and Riske to an extremely fair deal. Those would be the Brewers 8 and 9 guys. And that is not terrible.

If Gagne struggles, 1 year deal. If he does well, all the better.

Gagne, Riske, Torres, Mota, Turnbow, Aquino, Wise, Pena, McClung, Shouse. No sure things there but enough arms that Mike Maddux should be able to find a hot hand.

Looks like it is a done deal. 1yr - $10 million. Haven't seen the specifics, but I've got to guess that the full $10 mil is tied to incentives and if so, he will EARN the $10 mil and hopefully he does just that.

Posted this in the other Gagne thread:

I don't hate the move, but they had to do something with the pen, especially after losing Cordero. I didn't want to see them give a 4 year deal to Cordero, so I guess I'm alright with a 1 year deal for Gagne. Zero long term risk.

They will then have added Gagne, Torres, Riske, and Mota to fill the void of losing Cordero and Linebrink.

I wasn't thrilled with the idea of Turnbow closing, and Melvin has completely overhauled the pen in a matter of days.

After losing Cordero, I think Melvin has done a great job rebuilding the pen. Between the new arms he has brought in and getting rid of Fatstrada the pitching staff this year should be improved.

Not a bad signing at all. If he does great and leaves, the Brewers could end up with two #1 picks.

Brewers are going to be very tough in that division. Losing Estrada was a major 'addition by subtraction'.
