To replace him, outfielder Gabe Gross was recalled from Class AAA Nashville.Spurling was becoming less and less effective, compiling a 10.12 earned run average over his last 10 outings. In 10 2/3 innings over that period, he allowed 19 hits, four walks and 12 earned runs.Overall, Spurling was 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 38 relief outings. The Brewers have 10 days to trade Spurling, release him or have him accept a minor league assignment. Gross was sent to Nashville a few weeks ago after struggling to a .202 batting average with four homers and nine RBI in 89 at-bats. At Nashville, Gross batted .355 with four homers and 10 RBI in 20 games.
