Brimstone missile test video shows incredible accuracy (1 Viewer)

The Brimstone missile is a new weapon system designed for strikes in "complex enviornments". The accuracy is spooky...and I mean that in the most literal sense. I remember when we attacked Iraq in 2003 and the air force went after Saddam's palaces with big bunker busters. I don't think that would have been necessary if these things had been around then.

I wonder if we're going to need to have some sort of international agreement on limiting the use of these things in the future?

Why? It seems like the more accurate the weaponry, the safer it would be for the non-targeted population.

I'd guess he's getting at the fact that with one of these, you could essentially take out any exposed target on earth. So more from an assassination angle than from a safety aspect. It's getting to the point of basically having a kill button on anyone you can see. If we wanted Kim Jong Un dead, all we'd have to do is fire one of these bad boys into his window.

What are we waiting for?

The more impressive technology is in the things that knock stuff like this out of the sky before they reach their target.

You'd still need the aircraft in the area to deploy it.

Does the number of warships we have, and are building, really put America at risk, when the U.S. battle fleet is larger than the next 13 navies combined — 11 of which are our partners and allies?

Is it a dire threat that by 2020, the United States will have only 20 times more advanced stealth fighters than China?

Pfft. What we need here now are the same people who painted the crosswalk on the street. We see a problem, we don't wait for no government to take action. We solve the problem ourselves.

OK....

We can have one of those pretty much anywhere within an hour, manned or unmanned. There are very few nations with the ability to take down our fighters with any regularity. Only a handful that aren't allies.

Well, we would have to buy some first. Unless you're a Brit.

But seriously, this isn't anything new. If we're willing to fly into enemy territory there are any number of weapons that would do the job. Plus many others that could do it from a distance.

People in here seem to be getting the impression a British air-to-ground missile that has been in service for nearly a decade is some sort of game changer. Like it's the Hydra fleet from the new Captain America movie or something.

I see your point re. this possibly not being anything new. I'm sure we have some pretty accurate stuff. Those videos were impressive though. I guess back to the OP's point, the only thing at this point that keeps the US government from killing pretty much anyone who's whereabouts are known is political, not tactical.

The unfortunate evolution of technology means that at some point in the future, militants will likely have this same capability, and won't have as much to lose should they decide to take out a foreign head of state. That's kind of scary.

We've got you covered.

This may be a dumb question, but the video of the missile without a warhead...

Is this just to show where it hits in a test?

Or is this showing an option of how they can kill just the driver (or whoever) without harming others in the vehicle?

The first one.

I figured as much. But then I wasn't sure if they were also showing how they could just kill anyone from anywhere.

I think they're mainly used on armored vehicles, so they would need the warhead. I don't believe they are intended to be snipers.

Those are some late model trucks. Couldn't they have picked some 2001 explorers with the blowing up tires or something?
