A part of Ball's apeal is the rest of the RB depth chart. If Ball was to retire today, I'd pass of the rest of these guys.
Well yeah, but in that offense any stiff could put up FF relevant numbers. Not saying Ball is a stiff, but they could plug in anyone to run against dime defenses behind that line if it's healthy.
I have 0 faith in CJ Anderson. Hillman is not built to be a week to week option consistently. He's a commitee back only. If I was desperate, sure. But count me out after Ball.
Why no faith in Anderson? The Broncos liked him enough to keep him on the 53-man roster last season despite him being an UDFA who was guaranteed to miss the first part of the season to injury, and who was unlikely to see the field even after he got back (Anderson received just 21 snaps last year). The reason they kept him is because they liked him long-term and didn't want to put him on the practice squad and risk losing him to another team with a waiver claim. That's certainly a pretty solid vote of confidence in Anderson. For perspective, Denver gave a similar vote of confidence to Julius Thomas in 2012- they kept him on the 53-man roster despite him being virtually guaranteed to be a non-factor that season owing to injury and missed practice time. Worked out pretty well in the case of Julius.
I wouldn't bet on him unseating Ball, although it certainly wouldn't be the most shocking thing I had ever seen. If Ball were to go down and Anderson were given the job, though, I'd start him pretty much every week as my RB2 or as a monster flex.
