Brooklyn 99 (1 Viewer)

There are shows like "Rescue Me", where even if you don't dig the lead actor (Dennis Leary's standup) you'll like the show.

Brooklyn 99 is completely reliant on your liking Andy Samberg's schtick. The entire show exists for him to do what he does. Think Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura.

I think Samberg is a funny dude and I liked the first episode, but if you don't dig him you'll detest the entire experience.

This show could work but like Parks and Rec, they will need to get away from the main character pretty quickly before it gets old.

When I saw the first commercials it looked like a great idea but terrible execution. I watched the Pilot on a flight a couple weeks back and really enjoyed it. Pleasantly surprised.

Watched last night and have to say the wife and I thought it was terrible!

Will give it another episode or two but man was it rough.

They said it's the Barney Miller of the 2000's. I don't think they were comparing them directly as much as they style of show. I liked it.

So, this has kinda been downhill since the pilot, right?

P.S. the civilian secretary cracks me up!

Seems like they have some good characters so there is a lot of room to grow this IMO. Arresting the Commissioner's son was a little too Brady Bunch for me, they need to stay away from decisions of morality.

Yeah, I'm in. The wife likes it too. We were talking last night how they have a good mix of characters, and seem to be doing a good job of developing several of them. I basically could see it being like "The Office" in a police station.

She was sort of annoying at first, but she won me over with that dance. Funny episode last night.

Terry: It's got wheels! what kind of castle has wheels?!

Yeah, this show is rarely hilarious, but consistently funny throughout most episodes. I like, but don't love.

lots of giggle last night, the sex scenes were hilarious.
Hmmm.... my little girl and I have been watching this show and she loves it. We have it on DVR so we haven't seen last night's episode yet. It sounds like I may want to skip this one.

I wouldn't let the little girl watch this one. :(

After the break, Jake is discussing his weird sexual encounter with the M.E. It involved a lot of death-related role-play, until Jake is literally pretending to be a dead body and the M.E. is asking him questions about his death. Even Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) found it weird.

I've only seen a couple episodes because I wasn't impressed at first. Not much of a Samberg fan.

But the show's got some potential. I pretty much like all the characters, except for Samberg.

Especially the redhead with the schnauz. I've liked her in everything I've seen her in.

I liked the first two episodes but last night fell flat for me. Didn't laugh once, although I did sort of chuckle when the girl said her nose itched and was going to use the gun. The rest was forced and not funny. Samberg just can't pull off being a cop, even in a sitcom.

I'm guessing it will get canned sooner than later.

Interesting...I thought last night's was the best episode since the pilot. I love that other nerdy male cop, I forget his name.

Not sure if I posted it in this thread or the Fall TV thread, but early reports have this being in the cancelled category. Too bad, because I like it and think it has a lot of potential to be like The Office was.

I thought I read that Fox ordered more scripts for the show... and while I really have no idea what that means, I assumed it to be a good thing.

I've enjoyed it so far, some decent laughs. You have to give shows some room to breathe and figure out what works best. I could see it definitely getting better. That said, I also watched that Dads show right before or after (I DVR them), and I can see that seeing the cancellation letter soon. Also, some laughs here and there (last nights show was probably the best scene at the proctologist), but other than a really hot Brenda Song, especially in her school girl outfit, it just doesn't keep my attention much. It is background noise while I work after the kids are asleep.

Here's the site I've been using the past couple of years. They're not 100% accurate, but they are pretty close.

Interesting Grantland column about Fox Tuesday nights and Fox's Kevin Reilly making a run at his former employer (NBC). He outbid NBC for Brooklyn and picked up Mindy when NBC rejected it.

Anyway, he calls Fox Tuesday's the most promising comedy night on the networks.

There's some potential with Brooklyn, and while Mindy's pretty hit or miss, it's pretty good when it's good . If nothing else, it gives some extra cash to FX comedy actors and gives Max Pally something to do after Happy Endings was mercilessly cancelled (2nd or 3rd best network comedy at the time, imo).

I'd like to see them get a shot. They have more potential than most of the garbage being greenlit right now. New Girl is phenomenal (maybe even better than Parks at this point). Doesn't seem like it's in any danger though. Maybe it can anchor Brooklyn and Mindy until they get things figured out.

By the way, Mindy with that new haircut is God awful.

This week's show was really funny, might have been the best so far. I still like it and will watch until cancelled.

I really like this show, and every member of the cast. Really hope it survives.
I agree 100%. And it seems to be finding it's groove as the week's progress.

That said, I watched this with my GF and my parents over Thanksgiving and I was the only one laughing in the room. Not even smiles from the others. And usually, we all have the same taste in shows.
