Browns Pick at #12 (1 Viewer)

FWIW, I found this while looking for news I could use.

Canton Repository

Two days before turning 70, Jim Brown talked about the Cleveland Browns coming of age. The Hall of Fame running back, a key adviser to owner Randy Lerner, thinks the mess that squeezed out President John Collins has been cleaned up.

“I had a very positive meeting with Romeo Crennel and Phil Savage,” Brown said. “Their heads were so together, I was kind of amazed. They’re a perfect match.”

....

Running back Reuben Droughns rushed for 1,232 yards. The only Cleveland running back with a bigger rushing season since Brown’s final year (1,544 yards in 1965) was Leroy Kelly (1,239 yards in 1968).

“I don’t know if Reuben’s contract extension is done,” Brown said. “I’m pretty sure it will get done.”

Brown calls Droughns an “unbelievable competitor,” but he would not be surprised if the Browns add a back. There will be a decision to make if Southern Cal’s LenDale White, a big back with star potential, is available when Cleveland picks at No. 12.

“I do love Reuben,” Brown said, “but if you can add a good running back under the right circumstances, you’ve gotta go after him.

Brown then went on to smack his wife around and call every formal institution in the US racist.

Brown is a "key adviser" in that hes a great player the team lets hang around for PR reasons.

Smokescreen...the Browns have other pressing needs
I just argued that most of what we read is forthright and the smokescreens are not common, but I'll agree with this. Although, I think it's JB just running at the mouth about things he's not truly involved with more than a deliberate smokescreen. Savage and Crennel have been upfront about needing pass rushers and run stuffers. That's no smokescreen.

Didn't he love Clarett also. "Just remember Maurice is a great guy just alittle confused". I wonder if his defense attorney will agree with these statements.

never seen a guy go further on what he did 50 years ago, then jim brown..

6-7 years in the nfl,and a lifetime of calling everyone a racist..

yeah he's an embassador for the game, alright! lol

That's pretty close to being accurate. It's sad isn't it?

Smokescreen...the Browns have other pressing needs
I hope they don't so waht other teams have been known to do which is draft a good player just because they could. It would be nice to see them draftan actual need that matters or trade out of or into what can help. RB is not a high priority right now. Last year I was amzed that the Bears went after Benson with Jones there. In fact I thought they were in good shape with Thomas and yet they went after another RB. That was a missed ooportunity for them.

Savage and Crennel have been upfront about needing pass rushers and run stuffers. That's no smokescreen.
Which is sort of sad for this franchise, given that Courtney Brown and Gerard Warren were supposed to the the anchors of that defensive front for years to come. . .

Isn't recess over?

they are deadset on getting the best workout warrior they can find to play OLB.

Bobby Carpenter?

Manny Lawson?

Mathias Kiwanuka?

Stanley McClover?

who knows.... my vote is for Lawson.... but he's becoming a pop pick, so who knows. They could probably grab McClover in the 2nd/3rd...... would be pretty sweet to see them get 2 impact OLBs.

The best thing Jim Brown ever did was to drop those grenades on them Nazis.

And get shot.

But then, we live in a fantasy world.

Why would they go for White, when they have Droughns (who do very well last year -- the best a Browns' RB has done since the 80's), William Green, and Lee Suggs?

As others have said -- they have more pressing needs...

Jim Brown calls it like he sees it. Most of America's institutions ARE racist. Brown is a very smart man and he's more socially conscious than 99% of people in this country. You may not like him or what he stands for, but he has consistently dedicated his time, effort, and money to try and improve the lives of less fortunate people.

Say what you will about his personal life, but Jim Brown is certainly no racist. That he has the courage to use his platform as a well-known personality to rightly criticize the institutional racism in our society is to be admired.

As a white male, I completely respect his activism on the issue of race.

I will say that some of Jim Brown's comments in the past have been questionable, and downright wrong, but please don't tell me you are calling Jim Brown "a joke".If anyone can "go further" on his past accomplishments, it would be Jim Brown.

:goodposting: Whether you like or dislike Jim Brown you have to admire the guy for standing up for his beliefs. At a time when so many public figures are afraid to stick their necks out, he has and has readily accepted criticism when he's made mistakes in his own life.

Yeah...I am pretty against spousal abuse. Guess its just one of those things that only bother me.

Have you ever listened to this man speak?

A more accurate statement would be he has consistently dedicated his time, efforts and money to helping those that will get his face on camera and keep his names in the newspaper.

one thing about jim brown, he loves the cleveland browns, and is close to the team, particularly randy lerner. i tend to tune him out when he gets talking about race, but i'm always interested to hear what he has to say about the browns.

i still doubt they take a rb in the first round. they need front 7 guys. droughns was the mvp on a team with few impact players, but until his extension is done, i guess its possible.

Agreed. Thumbs down to overt racists/media whores. Thumbs down Jim Brown.

The funny thing is at 70 years old Jim Brown would kick all of your asses.
