I saw a bunch of different threads touching on the subject but maybe we can have one that is strictly about who will get the carries.
Coach John Harbaugh insists RB Bobby Rainey remains a "big part" of the Ravens' plans after the rookie cleared waivers and was added to the practice squad.
"Bobby is a guy that I cherish," said Harbaugh. "We just did it for special teams reasons, pure and simply. Anthony Allen has done a great job on special teams, and we made a strategic roster move we hope works for us." The Ravens obviously think more highly of Rainey than Allen as a runner and receiver.
Ravens promoted RB Bobby Rainey from their practice squad.
Coach John Harbaugh insisted a month ago that Rainey remained a "big part" of the team's plans after he was re-signed to the practice squad. Anthony Allen got the final running back spot purely for special teams value. Rainey was more effective as a receiver than runner in preseason action, catching 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
- I also remember CLE grabbing him off the waiver wire this year.Ravens placed RB Bobby Rainey (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
There are no further details on the injury. Undrafted out of Western Kentucky, Rainey was inactive the past three weeks after spending the first six weeks of the season on the practice squad. He impressed as a receiver out of the backfield in preseason action. Rainey will battle for a roster spot again in 2013.
Other than supporting cast where Samkon had a 10 out of 10 situation and Rainey has a 0 out of 10 situation, it's exactly the same.I am interested to see who gets the carries this weekend and hope is Rainey. We may have a Samkon situation brewing.
I did the same. It's a low-risk high-reward type of situation. I imagine at worst McGahee will be a decent flex.Pulled the trigger on McGahee in one league for the heck of it. I have no idea who will have the most value there.
I would not have dropped Blackmon for Rainey.Yeah, I dropped Blackmon & CMichael in a redraft for both Rainey and McGahee...we shall see. I'm guessing that I could pick both back up, if needed.
Oby played 52%, Rainey 0%.McGahee, Oby, Rainey in that order would be my guess.
McGahee one is obvious I think as he's a veteran and the most talented. Rumors out of NY last week were probably that he looked real good which made Cleveland pull the trigger on this deal.
I say Oby before Rainy simply because when both were healthy and available 3 days ago, Oby played in something like 40% of snaps while Rainey barely saw the field (did he play any offense snaps at all?). Find it hard to believe the guy who played 40% of the offense snaps 3 days ago would not be the better guy to have 4 days from now if you are looking to take a flyer on one of them.
Obonnaya was the compliment to Richardson and also lists as fullback. If they don't add anybody I'd think Rainey would be getting part/all of the Richardson role.Oby played 52%, Rainey 0%.McGahee, Oby, Rainey in that order would be my guess.

Agreed but I think the odds of a McGahee signing are rather good. He's the only one I'd be willing to bet on here. The Oby/Rainey tandem in a vacuum would likely rival PIT's situation as the worst backfield in the league. In fact, it would be worse.Obonnaya was the compliment to Richardson and also lists as fullback. Probably, barring a big surprise from Rainey. Ogbonnaya gets goalline in that scenario, yes? I figure McGahee gets goalline if he comes in.Agreed but I think the odds of a McGahee signing are rather good. He's the only one I'd be willing to bet on here. But at least it's an unknown as opposed to Redman and the bunch. You always want wants behind the curtain, ala Let's Make a Deal.Agreed but I think the odds of a McGahee signing are rather good. Surprisingly, the backfield dynamic was closer to a timeshare (snap wise) through weeks 1 and 2. In week 1, Oby saw 45% of the snaps and in week 2, 52%. I'd actually expect much of the same if/when they bring McGahee in. In short, the backfield could very well just be a fantasy wasteland.Probably, barring a big surprise from Rainey. Could be, but in TD heavy leagues, guys who get the ball at the stripe are always worth rostering unless your roster is loaded.Surprisingly, the backfield dynamic was closer to a timeshare (snap wise) through weeks 1 and 2. loool good oneI think McGahee at least has to be their GL back.
NFL network had a report a little before 6:30.how am I just now finding out about this ? Do you guys have connections to faster info ???
"...
The word is that Cleveland will bring in RB Willis McGahee and if he passes his physical, he should see time immediately. So if there's a move to be made, it's probably stash McGahee and see what happens. Chris Ogbonnaya and Bobby Rainey are there now but I have a hard time seeing either of them doing much. It's part of what made Richardson so attractive in that he had little competition. ..."
He last played RB in the NFL in 2001.we shall see - picked up gay
From the RSP.Western Kentucky RB Bobby Rainey is the best running back prospect you’ve never heard of. NFL.com researcher Chad Reuter asked me to give a second opinion on him this summer. Based on the clips I saw, I thought he was a second- or third-day pick who would make a roster and contribute on special teams for sure. He reminded me a little of Brian Mitchell, the great return specialist for the Redskins. However, the more I watch the 5-8, 205-pound all-purpose runner pound the rock in an I formation ground game, the more he reminds me of Ray Rice in terms of build, stamina, versatility, and vision. I need to see more of him against top-notch competition, but he’s a player to watch. He won’t be a first-day pick and he’ll need to work his way onto a roster, but he’s a talented runner.
out of the 5k posts made today this is the bestChudzinski was McGahee's OC at Miami. Pretty big clue there.
Screw it, I'm on board with McGahee. Might as well stash and wait for more news.
I thought mcgahee was worthless until I saw this post.Chudzinski was McGahee's OC at Miami. Pretty big clue there.
