This really sucks. Anyone who has a hard-on for Chris Simms isn't a coach in my book. That's the reason the Buccaneers tanked.Shanahan should have been the shark move here.Chucky will be next, followed by Teabow!!!!!!!!!
I'm not familiar with the Bucs situation, but I have a time believing it's all because of some Gruden-Simms love. Look, Allen is a proven NFL GM. It's a start. If he hires Gruden, he's a proven NFL HC. Put them together with Snyder's $ and there's hope. This really sucks. Anyone who has a hard-on for Chris Simms isn't a coach in my book. Any way you slice it, it's an upgrade over Cerrato-Zorn. The one thing I will say is that Chuckster won in Oakland for an owner just as nuts as Little Dan...so he has experience on that front that could prove useful.I'm not familiar with the Bucs situation, but I have a time believing it's all because of some Gruden-Simms love. It's reasonable to guess that they'll talk to and hire Gruden. It makes no sense that they'd draft Tebow. An incoming GM isn't going to waste his first year first round draft pick on a guy who'd be an iffy project at QB. There are more pressing team needs than that.Chucky will be next, followed by Teabow!!!!!!!!!

He then was general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004-08, when he and coach Jon Gruden were ousted in a sweeping, season-ending change.Allen has strong ties to both the area and the Redskins. He grew up in McLean, and his father is still considered a legend in the area. George Allen coached the Redskins from 1971-77. Bruce Allen went to the University of Richmond, and his brother, George, is a former U.S. Senator from Virginia. Hiring Allen gives Redskins owner Daniel Snyder both a tie to the franchise's more glorious path and a proven personnel man who led a team to a Super Bowl. It will also lead to speculation that Gruden would serve as the Redskins' next coach. Gruden is working as an analyst for ESPN's "Monday Night Football," and on Nov. 16 he agreed to a multiyear deal to remain with the program. That, it appeared, took him out of consideration to be Jim Zorn's replacement -- should the second-year coach be fired at the end of the season. But Allen's hiring will bring Gruden's name directly into the mix.

Report: Bruce Allen to take control of Redskins
Bruce Allen, the son of former Redskins coach George Allen, will be the new executive vice president of football operations and general manager of the Washington Redskins, according to readio station ESPN 980.
Allen served as a senior executive with the Oakland Raiders from 1996-2003. He then was general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004-08, when he and coach Jon Gruden were ousted in a sweeping, season-ending change.
Allen has strong ties to both the area and the Redskins.
I disagree. I think its much worse to bring in someone that you dont want, just to make some person of color look like a bafoonSo much for the Rooney Rule. It's ridiculous how teams constantly and blatantly ignore it. If the NFL seriously wants to enforce the Rooney Rule, they need much stronger penalties, such as first round draft picks. $200,000 is a drop in the bucket to a billionaire.
How do you know they didn't interview any minority candidates? So much for the Rooney Rule. It's ridiculous how teams constantly and blatantly ignore it. Not an issue.NFL source told me the Redskins already complied with Rooney Rule before hiring Bruce Allen. Interviewed at least two minority GMs.
This either means they made a mockery of the rule or Snyder's been working on this for quite a while. I'd guess the latter. The DC media gets in on a lot of rumors with this team, but somehow Snyder was able to keep this on the DL.Adam Schefter

Talks between Snyder and Cerrato about the team's future have been going on for several weeks according to several sources this morning, so the interviews with any GM candidates were obviously happening near the tail end of that time period. Talks with Allen were well-hidden, so it's reasonable to think talks with other candidates were well-hidden as well. This either means they made a mockery of the rule or Snyder's been working on this for quite a while. Gruden can't be hired for next season. Part of his ESPN contract he signed this year stated he cannot coach during the 2010 season. It was part of a deal giving him long term security with ESPN, if he so chooses to stay with them for several years.
I don't think that's true. ESPN refused comment on whether Gruden's contract allows him to leave to become a head coach. LinkGruden can't be hired for next season. Gruden said he contractually can't coach in 2010?Even if that's true, Snyder has the money to convince ESPN to let him go if he really, really wants him...I mean if Bruce Allen really, really wants him.Gruden talked about it on tv not that long ago. You could be right. The link I posted was just a refusal to comment from ESPN.Gruden talked about it on tv not that long ago. Maybe he lied.
Snyder could offer to feed Berman for a year. They'd go for that.Even if that's true, Snyder has the money to convince ESPN to let him go if he really, really wants him...I mean if Bruce Allen really, really wants him.
Gruden himself would have to really really want to coach under Snyder.Even if that's true, Snyder has the money to convince ESPN to let him go if he really, really wants him...I mean if Bruce Allen really, really wants him.
Regardless of the contract language, if Gruden had wanted to keep his coaching options open for this year, he would not have signed the extension.Gruden talked about it on tv not that long ago. It might be, but it doesn't make the question wrong. It happens to be a stupid rule. Racial equality can not, and will not, be achieved this way.I love pompous pontification.GordonGekko said:It's a good question, why even have the rule. Period.
This is beyond awesome.GordonGekko said:It's a good question, why even have the rule. Period. If Amy Trask of the Oakland Raiders, the highest ranking female executive in any NFL franchise, is not interviewed for EVERY GM slot that opens up in the NFL, how is that equality? There are tons of female NFL fans. Don't they deserve to see that a woman GM candidate has a fair chance to interview for a job normally slotted for a male? In fact, you could argue that any male candidate, regardless of race, has a distinct advantage over Trask. What is RIDICULOUS is a rule designed for some perception of "fairness" when it only actually helps African Americans. In fact, arms are only raised when a black candidate doesn't get what is perceived as a shot. Norm Chow getting tons of interviews? Any of the latino coaches? Wait, there's Tony Dungy on speedial wanting to discuss the issue, hold on, he's still helping Todd Marinovich get his life on track. Sure, like that would happen. And if the kid's name was Jamal LaAnthony Marinovich do you think Dungy would intervene for the kid? What if Michael Vick's name was instead Michael Chad McVickersteinberg?Instead of penalizing people, how about this crazy idea, CRAZY IDEA - MAKE THE CANDIDATES BETTER PERIOD, ALL OF THEM. Have the NFL devote a section of their offseason talks to a program where current owners and GMs can meet and greet and interact with up and coming management stars from ALL ORGANIZATIONS. Make it mandatory. Give anyone in those franchises with tenure some opportunity to take classes and seminars, not just for BLACKS but for EVERYONE. Crazy idea huh? EQUALITY = EVERYONE. Who would have thought that crazy concept up? For any job in America period, there are a FINITE number of interviews that are going to be given. Will no one discuss that interviewing someone not on your radar MIGHT, just MIGHT give you exposure to someone great you didn't consider before. But it will also inherently box out an interviewee who might have gotten a chance otherwise just to interview period. When YOU GET A CHANCE, USUALLY IT MEANS SOMEONE ELSE DOESN'T. But wait, why complain about that since it's not a BLACK GUY who gets boxed out. As long as it's some dude named Michael Chad McVickersteinberg right? No need to get a lawyer for that right? And here's the last kicker, there are ONLY 32 NFL teams. There are only a FEW SLOTS open every year for high profile jobs. Wow, crazy idea, lots of qualified candidates or folks who deserve a shot might not get a chance when... DRUM ROLL... there are ONLY 32 FREAKING GM jobs in the league. Wow a highly coveted high profile position with heavy interest from people wanting the job and most don't get it. YES THAT SCREAMS OF RACISM TO ME. I SEE A CROSS BURNING ON A LAWN RIGHT NOW. Maybe Bruce Allen was hired because, right or wrong, someone thought he could help the Redskins WIN. You know that crazy concept where you draw a line down the middle of the paper and W's are on one side and L's on the other. And you kind of want more to the left than on the right. Maybe Bruce Allen was hired because HE'S BEEN A GM BEFORE. Wow crazy conspiracy there. Someone with experience, especially in a job where few people get a chance period, getting the job over someone who might not. Crazy. YOU NEVER SEE THAT IN THE WORKING WORLD IN AMERICA DO YOU? PEOPLE HIRING SOMEONE THEY KNOW AND LIKE FIRST WHO HAPPENS TO HAVE EXPERIENCE AT THAT JOB? NEVER HAPPENS I SAY. I always enjoy how the Rooney Rule is discussed in terms of how it hurts ONE GROUP but not how the jobs that are desired are INHERENTLY DIFFICULT TO GET FOR ANYONE PERIOD. Yes, whenever a white baby is born in Dallas, Jerry Jones doesn't rush to the hospital and give him a T Shirt that says " Future GM, You Are A WINNAH!" Easy solution to help EVERYONE ( remember EQUALITY?), make all the candidates on every team BETTER and give them more EXPOSURE period. Let teams decide for themselves who stands out and who does not. I will not sit here and say racism does not exist, I'm saying making young up and coming management stars go through seminars and classes and lectures and scenarios and giving people a chance to meet and greet under NFL control will go a long way to helping ALL DISENFRANCHISED get more chances period, not just blacks. Michael Chad McVickersteinberg wants to know why you don't lobby for Amy Trask? He'd ask you himself, but he's waiting for Tony Dungy's phone call. GGIn that case, why even have the rule?I disagree. Say hello to Coach Lombardi.I don't think there was any mention, but does this mean Cerrato is gone? I was kind of under the impression that they would move him into a different role (I think his title today is even Director of Pro Personnel, but I could be mistaken). Honestly, I would be less surprised if Snyder managed to exhume Vince Lombardi for the HC job, than if he were to completely sever ties with Cerrato.
He's not so bad. He's also not so good. He's not a QB that can take the current pile of crap and lead the team to a good record. He's also not a QB who would destroy a really good team. He's average. Most of us are fine with him for now. They need to reconstruct the entire OL and get some more playmakers before they even consider throwing big $ at some other QB.unless some skins fan enlightens me on why campbell is so bad, i really don't see a need for them to draft a qb.
I think we all have that same worry. But, Allen was given the GM title. That's a sign that Snyder may be changing. We'll just have to wait and see. But, for now, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and there is much rejoicing. Don't rain on our parade just yet.So long as Snyder is the owner, do the rest of the details really matter? Feel terrible for such a proud franchise.
Sounds like you're guess is probably right. Snyder has apparently been working on finding Cerrato's replacement since around the time of the loss to Phildelphia, after which Cerrato chewed Zorn out on the team bus and blamed the loss on him.Sounds like you're guess is probably right.
