Bryant Johnson (1 Viewer)

If Bryant Johnson hits the free agent market after next season will he be a player of interest for many teams?

I really liked what I saw last season and considering he was the 17th overall pick in the draft(2003) I think he has shown enough to get a shot to be a starter somewhere.

Thoughts?

I think Johnson could be looked at as a starter and his price should be pretty low right now so I think he is probably a very low risk player to attain in dynasty leagues and then just see what happens. His chances of becoming a starter would probably be in the fair/poor range but probably closer to fair than poor IMO.

Johnson would be relatiely cheap and may even be on the WW of some leagues. Might be a nice guy to target, Thanks for the heads up.

OK now that Johnson is one of the Starting WR's for SF in a Mike Martz offense....what kind of numbers will he put up?

I think 1050/7 is going to be his floor

:bag: It was low before he got out of AZ and possibly starting on a pass happy mike Martz offense. I would say his value has skyrocketed, and it will go up further if he produces in SF...that is a big "IF" though considering the QB situation.

Floor? No, he could go out there and put up something like 50/750/3-4 TD if the QB position is not upgraded or progressed. Antonio Bryant wasn't able to put up nuclear numbers 2 years ago when he was looked at as the man out there. The offense was not spearheaded by Mike Martz though.

I'd wet myself if he put up those numbers. I think something closer to 800/5 is more likely.

He posted that more than a year ago - when Johnson was still in ARI.

Sorry Warhogs...thanks RC94 for the correction

Several variables may determine how Johnson does this year.

1.New OC Martz-receivers have put up good numbers in his system.

a. Johnson's value increases slightly because Bruce is there now and will take away catches if healthy. Bryant will also have to vie for catches against Battle,Gore and Vernon Davis.

b. If the running game with Gore is productive that should help the receivers.

c. He was a 1st round pick and given the opportunity to be the #1 guy could help his numbers.

d. Niners could be behind a lot in games which should bump receivers numbers up a bit.

**-overall given his situation and Martz' system I think he could produce 800-900 yds/7-8 td's as his ceiling.

2. QB situation- this alone could be the reason Johnson doesn't put up numbers worthy of a #3 wr on fantasy teams.

a. Alex Smith- I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt this year. If he doesn't show me some improvement I'm done with him. Of S.F. QB's Smith could be the one that hurts Johnson's numbers the most.

b. Shaun Hill- jury's still out on this kid. If Smith falters he should get the opportunity to play. I think Johnson'snumbers may actually be better with Hill playing.

c. If the offensive line doesn't protect the QB, neither Smith or Hill will have success and that means the receivers don't succeed as well.

**-overall with the QB situation I'm giving Johnson a floor of 400-500 yds./4-5 td's

I'm really not expecting a whole lot out of Johnson this year primarily because of the QB situation. That may or may not work itself out this year. If Johnson gets through this year unscathed his numbers should increase next year. Will they be worthy of a#1 guy, probably not. I don't think he'll ever be more than a #2 fantasy receiver.
