Buckhalter and Moats: Outlook for 2006 if Westbrook's injury linge (1 Viewer)

Guys, I'm starting to believe Westbrook may have cartlage damage in his knee which would create a situation of Moats and Buckhalter in the Iggle's backfield.

First, I'm amazed Buckhalter has put it togehter to get on the field. However, I have doubts he can stay healthy. Plus, is he really better than Moats or is he getting the work because he's a vet?

And Moats. The Iggles have stated he's the best runner on the team. Why isn't he starting? And do we need to worry about injury concerns with him too?

I'm less concerned about what will happen Week 5 as to how this shakes out the rest of the season and knowing which way to go. What thoughts do you guys have? Iggles homers are greatly encouraged to share their thoughts too.

I think we've gone over this and it looks like Bucky and Moats will continue to split if Westy is out...Reid has huge man-love for Bucky and the only thing that gets him out of the rotation is if he continues to fumble.

Let's put it this way, I own Buckhalter and Moats and offered both to the Westbrook owner for TJ Housh, and he turned me down flat. He may not be singing that tune if what you say turns out to be true down the road.

Of course both will have value if Westbrook goes down. The million dollar question is how much.

I've been baffled by the PHI running game.

Ryan Moats looked like an absolute dynamo at the end of last season. The kid had a ton of potential coming out of college (but was still conisdered a little raw by most scouts) and looked great in action last year. I've been astounded that he hasn't stepped right in as the full-time back in Wesbtrook's absence.

Any PHI homers have any thoughts on this?

Once Westbrook got hurt Moats had a good first game and a half and then faded the rest of the way.

Stats first 6 quarters:

17 rushes, 181 yards, 3 TDs

Stats last 10 quarters:

22 rushes, 45 yards, 0 TDs

Really he had one good game vs. the Giants and a good run vs. the Rams...that's it.

I envision Buckhalter getting 60% of the carries, Moats getting 40% of the carries and Buckhalter and Mahe splitting the RB receptions if Westbrook goes down. Moats has little value until Buckhalter gets hurt again.

yeah, problem is the running game just isn't that important to Andy no matter what and because he's put so much time into Buckhalter and gotten Zilch in return the past few years, he feels indebted to him to at least go through their depth order unless Buckhalter continues to fumble at the goaline. Andy Reid is CONSERVATIVE, so the last think he's going to do is to put Moats in front of Bucky if Westbrook goes down. Their offense is so pass heavy, that both would only be required primarily to get out of the backfield for check downs on most plays anyway.

That being said, Moats is definitely the runner of the future if Westbrook goes down, it's gotta be obvious to everyone, but I just can't see Andy putting Moats up for the lion's share of carries unless the Eagles start losing games b/c of the lack of run game.

I have westy on my team, but I'm not ready to jump over Buckhalter for Moats yet off waivers, Andy Reid's history doesn't support it. I'm going to wait and see

You seem bent over that.... makes sense for him not to... giving up a 1b WR to have to carry a #2 and #3. Sounds like he's playing to win with Westbrook... and not have to shave another slot off his roster to carry a #3 RB. Buckhalter as a starter might not be worth TJ, so what's the addt'l point of hedging Bucky with Moats. In fantasy, two nickels don't always equal a dime.

buck is the #2 behind westy.

before the season, i thought buck might become the goalline back, but westy's performance (and donovan's for that matter) have relegated that role to the back seat.

however, if westy is out, i see buck resuming the goalline role (as evidenced on MNF despite the fumbles) and he and moats splitting carries. i still believe that buck is the better FF play if you had to pick one. i'm grabbing him for insurance because i have westy, but whether i play him or not will depend on matchups (duh). no one should expect the numbers westy got and extrapolate it to buck or moats. more like, whatever westy would've gotten will be shared between buck + moats + mcnabb (with buck and mcnabb getting more TDs)

I own westbrook and would also turn that down in a heartbeat. Why would you want a RBBC (if westbrook is even out, which is not for sure) for a top WR? Couldn't he just trade Housh for a starting RB or something if it came to that? No way I tie up two roster spots for a couple of guys in a committee.

Anyone in their right n=mind would turn you down flat.Wven if Westy goes down hard, neither of these guys are legit enough to carrythe load, I would still rank TJ Housh wayabove the Bucky / Moats combo.

Didn't Buckhalter fumble just once Monday night? I believed he was stripped of the ball.

Two red zone plays where a fumble occurs and suddenly we're categorizing Bucky as fumble prone?

From my eyes, he seemed the more decisive runner in place of Westy on Monday night. Whether that translates into the starting gig should Westy be shelved for a period of time remains to be seen. I have both Bucky and Moats and I can't move them to the Westy owner for an upgrade at WR either. But nonetheless, I will hang onto both as long as I can should I need a spot start.

Last season Moats had 3 fumbles on 55 carries.

This season, in Philly's first preseason game, he had 2 fumbles in 7 carries.

This is what has kept him from having a larger role in the offense up until this point.

HTH.
