The Bucs reportedly were ready to enter the Steve McNair derby

(Rotoworld) The Bucs reportedly were ready to enter the Steve McNair derby just before his trade to Baltimore.

Impact: If so, why'd they wait that long? Jon Gruden never met a veteran quarterback he didn't like and Chris Simms is only signed through 2006, so it's not shocking news. They couldn't have paid him like Baltimore, though.

I wonder if this was as a backup or to push Simms for the starting gig

To me, it seems the bucs don't have much faith in Simms. Just my opinion though.

What would have been briliant is if they did this to stall the move to Baltimore. McNair should have been a Raven months ago, but something happened. Now he only has 3 months to learn the system before Monte makes him look like a fool in the opener. Wasn't there a recent headline saying McNair was having a tuff time grasping the system?

Not really having a tough time grasping the system. More about having to memorize all the new terminology, cadence and names for the plays.

Gruden is interested in every FA that is out on the market. There's nothing to see here. Just a bunch of smokes and mirrors.

Simms is the QB.

ABrooks made some comments last month about the Bucs feelings towards Simms. There may be something here.

Then they weren't seriously going to enter the McNair derby, were they?
Why do you assume TEN cares how much McNair would get paid by the team that trades for him?
Who said I assumed anything about what Tenn cares, diesel? I assumed McNair cares and with his accured seasons, he is in the same boat as Harrington in that he can nix a trade he doesn't want.

Are you assuming something different perhaps?

:goodposting: This was probably just a matter of the Bucs wondering if maybe the Baltimore deal fell thru and they could swoop in and steal McNair on the cheap now that everyone has their QB situation set.

All Im saying is, if the Bucs had offered a 3rd for McNair, and less money, hed be a Buccaneer.

:lmao: If you think McNair would've Ok'ed any trade where he'd have been paid less than the $12 million deal he had worked out with Baltimore, you're
