Since so many people have PM'd me for my thoughts on the draft I figured I would post it here to make it easier. ok so nobody asked, here it is anyway
Round 1 - (Picks 1-16)
1. Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia - Miami will look to trade down but with no takers they settle for the high motor guy
02. St. Louis Rams - OT Jake Long, Michigan – Perfect timing for the Rams, Pace’s career is coming to an end and they have the ability to fill in with Long at RT for a couple of years
03. Atlanta Falcons - QB Matt Ryan, Boston College – Falcons are starting a new and Ryan will be the new face of the franchise
04. Oakland Raiders - DT Sedrick Ellis, Southern California – With Sapp retiring they get the big man in the middle they need. SE looked incredible at the Senior Bowl and that pushes him to be the first DT taken
05. Kansas City Chiefs - OT Ryan Clady, Boise State – Chiefs look to trade down but with no takers they fill in a hole on their very much depleted O line
06. New York Jets - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas – Jets get a much needed play maker on offense. Jets will love the 1-2 punch that McFadden and Jones provide
07. New England Patriots - DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State – Pats get some much needed youth at their DE/OLB position. They need to be able to put pressure on the QB and Gholston will provide that
08. Baltimore Ravens - CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy - You can’t blame the Ravens for taking the best CB available
09. Cincinnati Bengals - DT Glenn Dorsey, Louisiana State - Bengals would be tempted to take a DE here but they just cant pass up on Glenn Dorsey who drops because of some injury concern
10. New Orleans Saints - CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State - They add Vilma and now one of the top corners in the draft, look out for the Aints!
11. Buffalo Bills - TE Fred Davis, USC – This might be viewed as a reach, but hey it’s the Bills. This pick is also based on the signing of Bryant to fill their #2 WR slot. The Bills get someone who can split the middle of the field and make sure that defenses do not key on Lynch on every down.
12.Denver Broncos - LB Keith Rivers, USC – They pass on Dan Connor to go with the more versatile LB out of USC
13. Carolina Panthers - LB Dan Connor, Penn State – With Dan Morgan moving on they get the best linebacker in the country to step right in and make an immediate impact on their defense
14. Chicago Bears - OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt – The Bears need to rebuild their O line at some point
15. Detroit Lions - CB Aqib Talib, Kansas – If the Lions do not complete a trade for Lito Sheppard look for them to upgrade their secondary here, if the Sheppard trade does happen look for the Lions to grab an OT.
16. Arizona Cardinals - CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida - Yet another team that could be in the mix for Sheppard, if nothing happens look for them to get the speedster out of SF.
Go ahead and rip it
2nd half to follow later today or tomorrow
17. Minnesota Vikings - DE Derrick Harvey, Florida - Finally the Vikes have someone who can put pressure on the QB
18. Houston Texans - RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon - Texans get a top notch back and they will have everyone asking “Reggie who?”
19. Philadelphia Eagles - WR James Hardy, Indiana – This is a homer pick so sue me. If the Eagles can not trade Sheppard for a WR, Hardy fills the big body and red zone threat they need. If they do get a WR in a trade look for them to get a big boy on either side of the ball or a safety
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – WR DeSean Jackson, Cal – With Galloway approaching 50 years of age the Buccs add some youth and speed to their WR core.
21. Washington Redskins - DE Phillip Merling, Clemson - NFC East has 3 Pro Bowl QB’s and the Skins know that they must add pass rushing to their line.
22. Dallas Cowboys (From Cle) - DB Kenny Phillips, Miami – This is the beginning of the end of the Roy Williams fiasco
23. Pittsburgh Steelers –OT Jeff Otah, Pitt – Big Ben is still getting sacked and now they lose Faneca. Otah can step in from day one and help at wither tackle position
24. Tennessee Titans - WR Limas Sweed, Texas – Titans add another weapon to help VY and having another Texan doesn’t hurt
25. Seattle Seahawks - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois - Mendenhall falls into the Hawks lap as they find their long time replacement for Alexander
26. Jacksonville Jaguars - DE Quentin Groves, Auburn – Jags get some edge rush help
27. San Diego Chargers – OT Carl Nicks, Nebraska – Nicks great combine moves him into the first round as the Chargers upgrade their RT
28. Dallas Cowboys - WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State – It’s the perfect time to add some youth to their WR corps
29. San Francisco 49ers (From Ind) - DT Dre Moore, Maryland - The 9ers were horrible against the run last year, so Moore moves into the first round thanks to his combine numbers
30. Green Bay Packers - CB Tracy Porter, Indiana – Al Harris proved he is on the down side of his career, its time to find a replacement
31. New England Patriots – Pick lost due to being cheaters
32.New York Giants - CB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech - Flowers improves their secondary and he isn’t the headache that could come from Atlanta
