Budweiser Rebranding Can Labels as "America" - Shtick? (1 Viewer)

I'm guessing you can have it both ways....so long as the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau agree.

It's bad enough that a non-U.S. company is doing this but even worse that this is the beer that represents America...American Exceptionalism, my ###.

I rather enjoyed Miller Beer's touching tribute to the hard working Americans with a commercial meant to tug on our heartstrings, employing Rush's "Working Man" as a backdrop song.

SABMiller - based in London
Rush - Canadian

Nice work, idiots.  No wonder your beer tastes like donkey piss.

YOUR FACE TASTES LIKE DONKEY PISS!!!

Seems like a great marketing strategy with Memorial Day, Independence Day, the Olympics, and a Presidential Election all coming up in the next 6 months. Who wouldn't want to drink an ice cold can of America to celebrate these patriotic times?

They broke into sports talk radio with this like it was breaking news...one of the dumbest marketing campaigns I can remember with a launch like it was the "new" thing.

I like Bud. I like Coors Banquet and PBR more for my fill of macrolager, but I like Bud. I buy a case every couple of months or so, and it's my beer of choice at the ballpark after an IPA or 2 (I can't afford $9 IPA's all game every game, so it's one then on to Bud).

Anyway, regarding their can designs, I still have no idea why they don't just stick with the classic cans. Talking mainly about stick with/going back to the 5th one from the right in this pic. I don't care how much you hate the beer, that's a beautiful ####### can.  The sideways deal and the cursive iterations aren't horrible, but when they switched to the bow tie, it just all went to hell. With each new busy can more horrible than the last. This "America" stunt is of course just another stupid can logo decision.

The brand is dying, and all they really have is their history to lean on in terms of marketing, the classic can and bottle designs seem like a no-brainer. Hell, it might even draw some of the hipsters away from PBR.

I'm not buying a single can of this in protest.

I wasn't going to buy any anyways, but now I'm REALLY not going to buy any.

From a marketing perspective I predict this will be successful. Heading out to the BBQ or 4th of July picnic and you're an average Joe choosing between Bud, Miller, Coors etc...

You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

Nah... they're just people who don't spend 80 hours a week on the internet and don't realize how uncool they are if they buy a beer can that says 'America.'

It seems like they've been trying to tap into patriotism a lot, particularly around 4th (I think they've done the US flag cans the past couple of summers). As far as I know, it's not working.

Miller Lite saw sales increase when they switched to the retro "Lite" cans (it was supposed to be for a limited time, but made it permanent after the sales spike).  PBR has become a resurgent brand with an old-school can. Coors Banquet is making a bit of comeback with retro cans (and Sam Elliot). Bud has the most iconic old-school label of them all and they refuse to use it for some reason, instead getting busier and uglier every year.

AB is also screwing pooch on the Busch cans. Busch would be a good candidate to be the next PBR, but they insist on ugly, busy cans for that one too. Busch is the Arizona Diamondbacks of beer can design.
