Bully California wrestling coach overpowers student, all taped (1 Viewer)

Santa Monica (Calif.) High wrestling coach Mark Black held an unexpected grappling match last week.

Students in Black's science classroom told Southern California's KTLA-TV that an unidentified classmate struck Black in the face when the Santa Monica teacher confronted him about selling marijuana in class. Cell phone camera footage of the incident shows the teacher/coach using his wrestling experise to pin the student to the floor during a confrontation that sent chairs and desks careening all over the room.

As a result, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District officials suspended Black pending an investigation. "I can tell you that what I witnessed on one of those videos is utterly alarming," superintendent Sandra Lyon told KTLA-TV, calling the teacher's physical restraint "unacceptable."

The Los Angeles-area television station did an investigation of its own, however, and the result appears to clear Black of any significant wrongdoing. After all, teachers are reportedly permitted to physically protect themselves and others in such a situation. Santa Monica student Daniella Melamed told KCAL-TV that she saw the student "had a pencil and was going after the teacher with it."

As another student told KTLA-TV, "What is a teacher supposed to do? Sit there and just let a student beat him up? He was trying to restrain him. He didn't hit him. He just wrestled him. He was trying to get him to the ground and said, 'You're not going anywhere.'"

Two students were arrested following the altercation, and more than 10,000 people have pledged their support for Black on a Facebook page established in his honor the same day news broke on April 4. Similarly, a change.org petition asking for Black's reinstatement has almost 4,000 signatures.

Black has won multiple national titles at the Veterans Freestyle National Championships. He has also helped Santa Monica's Maddy Tung become one of the nation's premier junior girls' wrestlers.

The lesson here, as always kids, don't deal drugs, especially in the wrestling coach's classroom.

1. Coming out in support of the teacher is premature. There has not been an investigation so we do not have any evidence to back up or disprove his claims.

2. The same thing goes for siding with the student/condemning the student.

I heard he tried to take a bag of weed from the kid so the kid punched him in the face before the wraslin'. Personally, I think think the teacher had it coming to him. I would punch him in the face too if he tried to take my weed.

A history teacher in my school caught a student cheating. She got up in his face and started poking him in the chest. He kept backing up until his back was against the wall and he finally put his arm out to hold her back. She hesitated and then fell down.

He sent her to the principal's office but instead she walked out of the school, walked home and her mom went directly to the police station to file assault charges. Her mom then called the newspaper and gave her side of the story. The school couldn't comment legally and they never called my teacher. They just ran this hit piece about how he beat her up.

Every single student in the class hated that girl and immediately went to the administration. He had one day they suspended him with pay and then brought him back. But the paper refused to ever followup and correct their story. Pathetic.

Clearly he's old enough to have been brought up with the wheel, saddles and bridles, and wagon-making. Pulling on my old Civ III days, I'd make it between 2300 BCE and 1910 CE, give or take.
