Bye weeks new option? (1 Viewer)

I am just wondering, what would happen if someone tried to not avoid same bye weeks, but instead tried to get them.

Every year it seems that I am playing a 2/3rds strength for 1/2 the season or so, because one of my main RBs, WRs, or QB is out on the bye week. If they are all on the same week or two, i could live 1 thrown week, maybe 2, to have my strongest possible team on the field every week the rest of the time.

Anyone ever tried this? Thoughts?

plenty of people have taken zeros(more or less) for a handful of guys on purpose like you mention.

i would think that this would be just as bad as drafting trying to avoid same byes in the sense that you would be introducing a variable other than bestplayer or team need.

I just did this in a league for the first time. It's 12 owners, we play 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 D, 1 K. Bench is only two players, can't be a QB or D. So in the really full bye weeks -- 6 and 8 this year -- competition for the available QBs is rough. Basically with six teams off ALL active QBs will be on a roster. So I targeted two of the set of Rothlisberger, Cutler, Kitna and Smith. Kitna went very, very high in the auction, so I settled for Big Ben and Smith. Grabbed Henry as my top auction purchase (adding him to Maroney as my keeper), then nabbed Tatum Bell very late for minimum bid. For WRs I grabbed Evans and Walker at fair prices, then nabbed Santonio Holmes as my 3rd. All in all didn't have to reach at all, and ended up with everyone except one RB (Maroney) and my D (MIN) sitting out W6. We'll see how it goes...

One of your considerations for this is how long your "regular season" is - the shorter it is the more effective this strategy would be.

Mathematically it is very sound - take one loss but be at full strength for the other bye weeks.

The trick is getting a good enough team limiting at least your starters to that bye week.

Also when is your draft?
